2021 Phillies Thread

The Braves were able to play, and lost 4-3 to the Dodgers. They were swept by the Dodgers. That leaves the Phils 2 games behind the Braves.
Dodgers score 1 in the 7th and 1 in the 8th, and top the Braves 3-2. Phils now 2 1/2 games back of the Braves
Yeah, stayed up and watched the Dodgers finish the sweep. Very similar to the previous game. Most of the early offense was generated by Home Runs, but the Dodgers came from behind with 2 runs in the 8th to steal another game from the Braves.

Braves bullpen didn't get the job done, but the Dodgers just have so much quality hitting that it's tough to keep them down.

Braves now have to play 4 games at Coors Field where the Rockies are dominant.

And once again Nola comes up small in September when the Phillies really need a quality start from him. Time to consider his future as a Philly.

Down 6-0 in the fifth inning, Phillies now lead it 7-6 in B8 but Bradley is struggling with two on and only one out.

And replace him with who? He’s a quality starter most of the time and if the relief pitching were better he’d have several more wins. You don’t trade Nola.
I beg to differ. He's not a quality starter when he craps the bed 3 out of 4 starts.

4 innings pitched, 6 hits, 6 runs against a minor league lineup.

By his own admission he struggles with his mechanics, which is not good for a pitcher.

Setting aside the fact that he’s the club’s only homegrown starter in many years, Nola hasn’t been good for a couple of years now. 4.54 ERA is north of the league average. That’s not good enough for a #2 starter making what Nola does.

Phils lose to the Fish (smh), and the Braves lose to the Rockies, so the standings stay the same.

And the Mets are showing some signs of life, won their 5th straight. Now 2 games in back of the Phillies and 4 games behind the Braves. Each of those 3 have 28 games left.

Just another brutal loss in a season of brutal losses and blown saves. Glad I didn't see the last couple innings. Ranger with another solid outing, although he left the game early. Arm soreness?

I'm glad football season is here. It'll help soothe the frustration of watching the Phils.

Joe gave a wishy-washy answer that he was starting to lose velo and he was being cautious. Bottalico and Barkann kinda disproved this on the highlights. A reporter asked "Dead arm?" and Joe basically agreed.

This is what happens when you manage like you're directing a play (a description I heard from a big Yankee buddy of mine about Joe.)

The more moves you make to the bullpen, the better your odds of landing on somebody who's going to blow up. Especially when you're tapdancing through this bullpen of molotov cocktails.

Another “quality” start from your man Nola.

JT was another giant mistake. We're married now. Marchan throws out more guys than JT and he goes for sucker pitches two feet off the plate. This is all year.

Not out of it (miraculously) but I wouldn't fault Harper who is putting up good numbers and can play his position. Everybody will shit on Harper for his contract but JT is the original "Held up without a gun" guy. He's brutal. The new Jake.

That said, I wanted them to sign him too.

Not for nothing but I heard him shiz on the Philly fans in a spring game. Nothing was made about it but he was acting the baby. Where is the production? You are killing the team. Blame the terrible fans. No fan of JT, give me Harper. Give me Wheeler. Cutch. Segura maybe. Rest of the team is a black hole.

Looka, the Brewers are one of the best teams in baseball and how did this turn out? That's right, the Phillies can beat Washington and maybe the Mets 2/3 but they can't beat anybody else in the entire league because they're the Phillies. Bullpen. Defense. Situational hitting. Starters beyond Wheeler?

HOw do the Nats BRaves and the Fish get these young guys that the Phillies don't? Our scouts are hitting Belarus and Estonia. Possibly Ireland and Wales.

Chalk up blown save #30. Kennedy hangs an 0-2 curve ball with two outs. Hadn't thrown one all inning. Equally annoying was Obubel having another brain fart on the bases. How do you slide over 3rd base when it's not even a close play? That cost the Phils a run.

The bullpen should be charged with theft by deception. They're riding around with a tank of used motor oil telling you they'll seal your driveway for 800 bucks.

Only blow 20 saves and we're cruising to the division.

There’s always next year. Maybe the franchise will finally fix the historically bad bullpen on the fifth try.

He takes a beating like every catcher and the season is winding down. He has been killibg this team at the plate. He is either not let something on or in some kind of insane funk. He looks like a pitcher hitting.

Losing Hoskins for the season was a huge loss. He was 5th in MLB in xtra base hits before the injury. Obviously the bullpen has been awful, so let's pitch a bullpen game tonight in a pennant chase. What could go wrong?

Running on empty. Starting pitching, bullpen, defense, hitting (other than Harper) just not getting it done.

How's this for a modest goal for the rest of the season -- finish over .500 and ahead of the Mets.

It makes you wonder where they go from here. They have $120 million in committed salary for seven guys: Harper, JT, Wheeler, Nola, Didi, Segura and McCutcheon.

The cumulative production from that group is nowhere near good enough for that amount. They’re largely stuck without some creative trades.
