2022-23 Transfer Portal Thread

None of that changes the fact that Washington is not listed on any mock draft as better than a 3rd day pick. He should stay and every coach worth his salt including Franklin will advise him as such.
What does the player get? Most players lose a year of paychecks, risks injuries and don't go to the NFL. Any coach outside of the football coaches will advise the players who won't get drafted to leave the second they get their degree.

That's dumb. PSU823 was correct in stating he wasn't listed as better than a 3rd day pick but what he didn't say is that this was BEFORE his injury. He's not getting drafted recovering from injury with like 600 yards receiving and not very NFL-like measurables.

Now Washington is a player and if he returns as a #1 WR to a 5 star qb and notches a 1000+ yard season, then that's a different situation all together. His measureables are still not going to be what the NFL desires but that production will have someone bite maybe even as early as 2nd round.

Why leave if you can get $70k + NIL money. Most kids wont make that year 1 out of college.

Needs to have an exceptional combine performance. If his injury will hamper him from getting to that goal in time, he'll be back. If not, he'll take the chance on round 3-4 money and leave.

And some players just plain like playing college football, working on a 2nd degree while enjoying college life. They realize they have the rest of their lives to work for a living.

Being a starting football player at PSU is demanding in a number of respects, but to many it's a pretty nice gig.....

I think it would. Not sure unless it is barnham that they would take a lb at all. I think they are happy with kings progression, deluca as viable, and Elsdon as improving. I think they would be just fine to add Rojas, Keys, and Nelson to the room.
PSU recruiting guru's still list Robinson as a LB recruit, and Nelson is now at the practices for a all star game and tearing it up practicing as a Safety. Obviously Nelson seems to have the frame to end up as a Sam LB at PSU, but he seems to have the coverage ability and speed to be a monster Safety which is where he has been projected as a recruit.

I guess we'll find out where PSU sees Robinson and Nelson playing if they sign on signing day, during Franklin's comments as he welcomes them to the PSU team.

IMO, somebody has to move. We sign more S than any other team in America it seems.

In the end, my projection is Robinson, with his length, becomes the next great edge at PSU and Nelson comes down to the box as a LB.

His junior year video highlights show him rushing the passer, dropping into coverage, running sideline to sideline, and playing safety. He has the speed to play LBer. My only question is about his agility to play there at the collegiate level. Maybe some of this will depend on where Kaveion Keys winds up committing, not to mention how Nelson and Robinson develop physically.

PSU does not have a long history of producing NFL worthy Safty's, so I'm estatic that Franlin and his staff have stocked the position well recently. Especially with current defenses many times using a 3rd Safety within 5 DB defenses in place of the Sam LB in order to get more WR coverage ability on the field.

Quite a stretch to believe Nelson becomes a box LB. Don't have a link but in reading the reports of his practice performance for the Alabama all star team he seems to excel in coverage, using his speed to make plays all over the field.

Should be interesting to see where Robinson ends up. But his highlights linked by 19333 above show a player that looks pretty comfortable playing in space. Significantly more playing in space experience it seems than Parsons who seemed to play more as a DE in H.S and ended up a a pretty good Will LB.

I misspoke when I said box. I meant coming down to the outside.

Just a thought since another poster mentioned this: Would the staff ever consider moving Ioane to DT? He is big, mean, and drives defenders off the ball. He was the only OL I noticed in the MSU game that did, 3-4 yards off the LOS. Being only a freshman, that was impressive.

We are really thin at DT. If Ioane can move them one way, he can certainly move the OL the other way. If you remember, we turned Levi Brown into a #1 draft choice at OT after moving him from DT after Joe noticed his great footwork. This would not have happened if he stayed at DT.

Just a thought. I'm really impressed with this kid, the little I've seen of him. That 6-4, 334 lb body would be a nice replacement for PJ in the middle of our DL.

As @Adam Gorney said in his latest rumor mill article, USF WR Jimmy Horn Jr is expected to be on campus this weekend. That's on top of Kent State WR Donte Cephas. Who if I could put in a FutrueCast for, would put in a FutureCast for.

Cephas is blowing up with offers from ND, UGA, OU, the U, others. Sounds like he wants to stay close to home and really likes JF.

No mention of RB or QB. Assuming Lee is returning? Maybe Ford is back in? QB is an issue again like in 2021. Allar is the anointed one but there is zippo behind him and neither Pribula or Smolik are D1 QBs right now.

Just curious as to the data you’re using to say Pribula is not a D1 QB right now.

52 Receptions for 501 yards in 2022. Also played for WVU in 2021. Look like he would have 3 years to play 2, but would be an immediate contributor at PSU should he transfer to PSU.

Here is the deal, we have a high priced, shiny new toy in #15. No way we don't take every option to get better, WR on the team getting mad be damned. Sucks to be those guys but shit, a lot of them had the ability to show something big by now and haven't. Thats on them, get better or get passed.

Correct.
Your mock draft still blows though

A significant % of our wr room is true and redshirt freshmen. It's not like we have a ton of redshirt Jrs that have been waiting their turn.

What do you think Nick Saban or Kirby Smart would tell an injured receiver thinking if leaving early for the 4th round?

You're welcome..
What is his injury? Do you even know? I do and it isn't something that will hurt his draft status. He will go in the 4th round, maybe not to Pittsburgh because I don't even know if they have a 4th rounder this year.

Leaving for the 4th round is simply something that not one single cfp coach would advise

4th round would be absolutely best case scenario unfortunately. There is just as much chance at being undrafted. Hope he surprises but hope is not a method.

look, do i think he made a mistake? Yes, he should have come back. But I also think he will go 4th round or higher.

I just don't think he will. He's 5'10 not great nfl speed, only 600 yards receiving and is coming off of injury. There are 133 division 1 WRs that out produced him this year.

I love him as a PSU player and definitely has great hands but I'm being realistic. The above all goes against him.
