2024-25 PSU Lineup (The Dynasty Continues)

I remain a huge Shapiro fan, he is Uber talented athletically. He has only a few chunks in his armor.

I think either Levi or Mitch match up well against him. Levi is so positionally sound and his defense is up to the task. Mitch can and will clean up his defense a little, and his pace will be a real problem for Meyer.

Mitch vs Meyer will definitely be a marquee match every time they meet. Granted Meyer needs to earn his way to the finals first ;-)

Shapiro doesn't lose often but it seems a common theme when he does is he seems tired.

Ok let's revisit this given today's information
125 Lilledahl
133 Nagao or Davis
141 Bartlett
149 Van Ness or Kasak
157 Mesenbrink
165 Haines
174 Facundo or Barraclaugh
184 Barr
197 Cochran
285 Kerkvliet or Mirasola

A great lineup just the same?

My guess is that Davis and Kasak take their RS years since that's what was intended this year until they were forced into action. You can add Ryder to the mix at 174, although I think Facundo will be the one to emerge with the starting spot. At HWT, if Kerk decides not to come back, I think they will look to the portal so that both Mirasolas can RS at the same time. If one goes, then I think both go or else both redshirt, but I also think they want to allow Connor a year to grow into HWT, so of the two, he is the least likely to go, which means someone else is needed at HWT if Kerk is not here.

The Trials will determine if CStar and Kerk return. CStar wants Oly gold and his time is 2028 not 2024. Kerk has Steveson and Parris to get through and not sure anyone will beat Gable this year. Both can wrestle NCAA for a year, earn some nice NIL and win some titles then go all in at FS and worlds.

Has there been any confirmation that Gable is wrestling at Trials?

Why wouldn't Cael let Connor battle Cochran for 197 if he wants? And you think they want both brothers to compete at Heavyweight? It will be interesting to see what happens, but I don't think they need to redshirt at the same time.

What about Howard? Is he still fighting for a spot or done from injuries?

Did I mix them up? Obviously both aren't heavies. This is going to be an issue for me for the next 5 years, LOL. I believe (JMO) that the kids probably want to compete at the same time, so they will want to either both redshirt or both go, and I believe Cael & crew really want H. Mirasola (I will henceforth refer to them as L. Mirasola, "Light Mirasola", and H. Mirasola, "Heavy Mirasola") to redshirt to grow into the weight, so I think L. Mirasola will want to redshirt as well.

Who knows? We haven't heard any updates about him since like November. I don't take that as a good sign, though, so I wouldn't count on anything from him at this point. If he's 100% healthy and back to 100% on the mat, obviously, he has the ability to nail down the spot and allow LL to redshirt, but I'm not going to put any stock in that until it happens based on his history. I don't think Davis will be able to hold the weight, so it's either LL or someone like Steen or Nasdeo if Howard is not available.

During most televised wrestling matches, they show all the 4 time champion, wouldn't it be cool if they have a separate graphic of the one 5 time champion. That's why Carter should return for his final championship.

No, none at all. He withdrew from the World's after winning the U.S. Open. He definitely said he was coming out of retirement, which he did, but nothing since he beat Parris at the U.S. Open, and nothing since last September's Worlds.

It was rumored months ago that he would go into semi-retirement -- i.e., he'd stay on the roster so PSU would pay for his treatments, but won't compete. I don't know if that's true, and if it happens, it'll never be announced, rather he'll be honored at Senior Day in a couple years and that will be that.

If that's what he wants, or if he wants to return, either way I hope he gets what he wants.

In the meantime, PSU is swimming in 125s:
- Howard -- 2 yrs remaining (2026) + medical shirt if he wants it
- Davis -- 3 yrs + shirt
- McHenry -- 1 yr
- Vespa -- 1 yr
- Steen -- 2 yrs
- Wentzel -- 4 yrs
- Lilledahl -- 4 yrs + shirt
- Nasdeo -- 4 yrs + shirt
- Gibson -- 4 yrs + shirt (assuming he can get to 125, IMO it's his better weight)
- Desmond -- arrives Fall 2025

Some of these guys might move up to 133 in time (though we have five 133s now), still that's a lot of 125s.

Given the so-called "curse of 125", it's not surprising that Cael is flooding the zone with lightweights to see what sticks. I don't think Davis will be able to hold the weight, and I suspect LL may only have a year (maybe two) at the weight as well, so I suspect that it will be LL this year and maybe one more before Desmond comes in and takes it over as Lilledahl moves up.

I'm not counting on Howard at all (although I'm certainly rooting for him to come back if possible), Vespa, McHenry, and Steen more more like room guys who can fill in if necessary. Gibson and Nasdeo are potentially interesting options (if Gibson can get down), but my impression is that they are a tier below Lilledahl/Desmond, but we'll see, I guess.

I'm most excited to potentially see Lilledahl at 125 this year. I think he will be a national contender from day 1 if he's the starter.

I don't think folks realize how deep we are at 125. Clearly, it's been a massive emphasis by Cael.

We're getting Shapiro Mesenbrink, aren't we?

I think 149 and 174 are going to be absolutely loaded next year with everyone else either running down to get away from Mesenbrink, or running up to get away from Levi.
If KOT is moving to 174, I can’t see the logic of moving to 174 to avoid Levi but then running into Keegan.

I have read this multiple times and I am not sure I get it? Are you taking about some other hypothetical wrestler at 165 having nowhere to hide?

If so he can go down to 157.... oops.

Sounds like Gibson is gonna end up at Rutgers. Reading the tea leaves on twitter. Good decision for him if true.

He can't flip unless PSU releases him from the NLI he signed in November.

The "tea leaves on twitter" is him replying with googly eyes to a Rutgers commitment list. Whether or not he goes there, that's flimsy evidence.

I think Facundo will jump levels being on full feed and being able to focus on wrestling instead of cutting all the time. That being said, just stylistically, I can see Ryder beating him by next winter because he's almost impossible to take down.
