Football 2025 Transfer Portal Thread

We just got Ross from Troy. #33 ranked WR. Good numbers (76 catches, 1 043 yards, 11 tds in '24) but lesser competition. Also he is only 5'11" 161 lbs. Is he a burner?

Sweet. I have read that he is a burner. Played outside at Troy, but has experience in the slot.

he and Evans give us a couple of fast (albeit) smaller guys to stretch the defenses...... he had quite the day versus Iowa with two 60+ yard receptions for TD and a 70 yard punt return for a TD.....if he could do that every game, he would be quite the pick up.

Staff must believe he can be an impact WR and returner, as how many 5'9"-5'11 WR's does a team need..... But this log jam likely gets sorted out in the next weeks and months.

There’s no log jam. Clifford and Fleming are gone. Omari will likely transfer. We’ll see if Tre comes back.

What? Tre is our clear #1 for next year even with the two additions from the portal. Evans was our second best WR and he might be our biggest deep threat. Clifford started quite a few games and isn’t leaving PSU even if his playing time shrinks to zero next year. Players like Ivey, Saunders, Johnson, and Flowers are all candidates to leave or at least be encouraged to look around. Wallace and Evans are our best WRs and aren’t going anywhere.

Evans tweet would suggest otherwise

I agree with all of that, but I do think Evans is 50-50

He thinks Ross is the best WR in the portal so he's not making any sense.

Clifford didn't announce he is leaving. He has eligibility. Yes, he may leave but is unknown and currently there are too many players that are slot WR's. Fleming has nothing to do with it as he plays outside.

What did Evans say on his tweet? He has been a good number 2 and gives us some real speed on the outside.

Some of our staff (Brown, Bryant) following him on Twitter now that he has decided to enter the portal instead of turn pro. Former JUCO player who has extra eligibility now due to the Diego Pavia injunction.

6'6 302, 318 (multiple reported weights). Does anybody remember him when we played Purdue?

FCS All American DE who entered the portal today. Franklin and Barnes immediately followed him and he returned the follows. Will draw a lot of suitors. 2 years of eligibility.

What about Lavon Johnson, DT from UMD, formerly of Allentown Central Catholic?

Aren't Wheatley and DeLuca coming back? Good possible insight into what he's thinking but not definitive

Yep, Clifford did participate. But many players have participated in Senior Day and then decided to return. He hasn't made any announcement yet. It's not over till it's over.

But it seems that with all the WR at slot WR, the incoming Ross and the up and coming Denmark, the Clifford will move on. But there are so many scholarship WR's that are stacked up and seemingly not talented enough to be playmakers maybe the staff would rather an experienced Clifford on the team rather than some of the other non-contributors. Clifford has sure hands as a returner, not much juice. Who knows.

My guess is that at minimum flowers and Ivey leave after the playoffs. this is year three for them and they’ve not seen the field for any kind of reps. Potentially a couple others just from that position group especially if Clifford stays.

There are at least four WRs behind Clifford. Not sure why people have hime one foot out the door.

This year so far, 14 games with 18 total receptions, averaging 20.4 receiving yards per game. This isn't a Freshman. It is a Redshirt Junior. His Redshirt Sophomore season -- 10 catches for 130 yards. His Redshirt Freshman season -- 8 catches for 89 yards. He isn't going to get better, and he will have the same impact next year that he has had this year and the previous years -- almost none. Time to get on with his life's calling.

His 18 receptions are more than all the wr behind him combined. That includes 3-4 juniors. Are they getting better?

Ps. 10 catches his Redshirt sophomore season? That is Same number warren had. Did he get better?

Yep, not couting the 7 redshirt and true freshmen WR's, there are Ivey, Johnson, Flowers and Saunders that will be redshirt Juniors, with the first 3 having not seen the field in prime time and Saunders who would seem to be burriend on the depth chart at Slot WR and who will also have a hard time seeing the field. All 4 may get passed up by one or more of the 7 freshmen this Spring and see the hand writing on the wall.....

Sorry to upset you, Mrs. Clifford.

Yes, Warren got better, and he didn't wait until his Redshirt Senior year to do it. How much better is Clifford from when he was a sophomore? How much better do you think he will be next year?

Unless they are underclassmen, I would expect those WRs behind him to make the same impact that Clifford will next year -- almost none. Underclassmen have time to grow. After 4 years in the program, Clifford is, and will be next year, exactly what he has already shown himself to be. He doesn't move the needle at all.

Ok Mrs Ivey, Mrs flowers, Mrs Johnson and Mrs saunders.

18 catches > 1 + 0+ 0 + 0

Clifford does not have to get better to be better than the guys behind him.

If you are going to process players you start at the bottom of a position group, not the middle.

Process them all.

Clifford wouldn't be a process; he graduated.

I like Clifford, but think he's more of a 2nd slot guy in a 4WR set than the slot guy in 3WR sets. He's a better player than many give him credit for, but he's identical to the other guys in the room. They are decent hands, ok route runners. No speed, no "make a guy miss", no contested catch ability. Good blockers, good teammates, but you aren't beating Ohio State with a near half dozen of them.

You have 2 transfer WRs that come in that will be ahead of him. Even the freshman such as Denmark will pass him. Where’s that leave Clifford? Not even close to playing time.

Its been pretty evident to me Saunders is leaving. He played exactly 4 games this year and has been totally shut down.

Pretty good catch. Only issue is, he'd have to apply for medical RS as he used his year 1 IIRC. Potentially smart way to save it vs the usual "I'm entering the portal in December" type posts we see a la Bear Alexander.
