Football 2025 Transfer Portal Thread

Reports are that Ewers has an offer from a B1G team for $4m next year. he is leveraging TX to match and TX is deciding between him and Manning. In the meantime, Ewers is also looking at the NFL draft or to stay another year. His advisors are telling him to stay in college, take the $4m from either TX or the B1G team (rumored to be Oregon) and then go into the draft next year.

Could have some bearing on Allar's decision.

Portnoy offered up $3mil 2 months ago. Just seems more in line with that.
Yeah, that's a good call out
I just expect a team like Maryland to make a big splash at some point but does it even make sense for someone like Ewers to take that money if he's not surrounded by a ton of talent.

Bingo. The timing is all off too unless Texas drops the Clemson game. I understand Texas players can enter up to 5 days after their season ends, but Ewers being your QB for '25 would be something to pull weapons in with and you can't sell that until he publicly says he's coming.

Maryland would need OL help more than weapons. Ewers would qualify for disability benefits if he played 12 games there.

not many.

I think the poster was referring to 2023 where he played in all 13 games and had 47 tackles. I have no idea why he dropped this year.

He got in a scuffle with the coaching staff on the sideline and quit mid-game. Then left the team

from what I am seeing, he's made no announcements. A lot depends on what Ewers does. Has anyone seen differently?

I did a quick search. Reports I'm seeing say Ewers to draft, Arch to stay at Texas. Probably a fake account post the OP saw, but they didn't share it.

Is he officially in the Portal? How can he be offered four m by a Big 10 team if not in the Portal?

LOL.

They have agents that make the calls, the player doesn't communicate directly. It is all NIL money so the schools aren't directly involved. Do you think Ol Miss wouldn't take Manning if a NIL company offers his $4m to go there?

on the other hand, the media could be making it all up

It's like Williams Nwaneri--he left Missouri and is coded as "do not contact" because he left Mizzou because someone called his agent and said "what's your price"--allegedly Rhule

Agents are running this--there's no contact with the kid

Who's the BIG team offering Ewers that big of a paycheck? Michigan, OSU, Oregon, USC?

Sounds like Enai White is visiting...

Miami OH transfer WR signed with Texas Tech on his visit. They must’ve dropped a bag on him, no other reason I can think of for wanting to play there.

I just read that 7 Tennessee football players have entered the portal and are not practicing for the playoff game vs Ohio State. It said none are starters but 4 are contributors as reserves.

So much for the theory that players wouldn't opt out of bowl games if they were in the playoffs.
I always knew that would happen. That is why I have no problem with Franklin “processing “ players nowadays.

They throw the ball a ton. Great opportunity against mid tier defenses in a wide open conference to get targets.
Money could also matter here but could also just be about volume or guarantees with playing time.
Their starter had 140 more attempts than Allar this year

I don't know anything about the Miami (OH) transfer WR, but WR recruiting wrt the player's rating vs their productivity appears to be a crap shoot.

For example, this is the stat line for Nick Nash out of San Jose State University: 104 Rec. 1382 Yds 16 TDs 13.3 Avg.

He was a named a Walter Camp 2nd team AA for 2024

And this was his composite recruiting profile:

How would his performance have been affected if he played in a power conference for a team like PSU?

I just believe that it is very important when you pay to acquire an asset through the portal, that their compensation is inline with their fellow teammates and their productivity.

The FIU WR Eric Rivers was slightly higher rated coming out of HS. While his transfer portal grade is a 90, his rating out of HS was an 84 which is a low 3 star.

We certainly have yet to see this type of productivity from our more highly rated receivers.

Nice get for Auburn
Kind of expected a better landing spot for him...not sure I get this from his perspective. I'd escape the SEC if my option was Auburn.

It was believed he would go to Miss State. Reunite with Lebby, Van Buren in the portal. Auburn saw that Bama game and gave him the credit.

It's not like Singleton is visiting OSU, Maryland, WVU, and VaTech while ignoring us. He's a state of Georgia kid visiting primarily SEC schools. Jawja didn't even make the list and I would have thought that was a lock.

While I get the negative attitude about this with regard to our WR room, one has to be reasonable and understand that we aren't going to look at the portal ratings and simply offer the top 20 WRs listed by Rivals, on3, 247. It's just not how it works.

Some of these kids are taking bags without even visiting. I don't think that is what we want. Is it?
