Football 2025 Transfer Portal Thread

Hard pass. 3-9 dog of a team in a conference that plays no defense.

We want PROVEN WINNERS WHO PLAY IN REAL CONFERENCES AGAINST ACTUAL DEFENSES...

See: Our last two wr portals. Learn your lessons.

Which WR meets your criteria currently?

I'm not sure that I know of one. Who would you go after?

I guess you wouldn't have took Tez Johnson...?

Franklin's way of doing things in the past was not to offer kids until he had met them, had them to campus. With players he had a previous relationship with during their recruitment out of H.S. it seems he could bypass that. But will he change that method with the portal players since their recruitment seems to go so fast, especially for the top portal players?

Franklin said the staff is going to be aggressive. That must mean giving out offers to the top portal players even if Franklin and his staff don't really know much about them.

Conner Weigman has committed to Houston--might be a good fit for him but huge disappointment at A&M

They benched him for Reed didn't they?

He only record 2 tackles on the year. Have a hard time seeing him drawing big $.
They did--Reed was raw but still more effective
Potential with Nwaneri--huge 5 star kid--think he's 6'7" or something. But maybe you're right--maybe he's just leaving Mizzou because they didn't play him enough for his liking as a frosh

He's sort of like Enai White. PA kid, part of Jimbo's '22 massive haul (that massively hauled ašs out of College Station) that's in the portal now. 3 years, hasn't done anything. Played in 13 games (7 as a freshman, 1 as a junior), 11 tackles. His potential is essentially expired. Let him go G5. If he puts it together there, then I'd go after him for his final year.

This Mizzou kid didn't sniff the field. And this Mizzou team was pretty weak. Decent record, missed a lot of the big boys, got smashed by the ones they did. Definitely wouldn't write him off, he just has one year under his belt. Could have been underused, wrong system, been hurt, anything. But, you don't give him a bag. His 5* is gone.

I'm curious to see--because you're 100% correct about Williams
Allegedly he's a "do not contact" and he's going to play for Rhule

The transfer portal has brought a form of free agency to college athletics. With many of these players seeking a financial compensation package to go with their transfer, are coaches and teams permitted to 'workout' these players when they come for a visit?

And if you are permitted to do so, are there any guidelines for what you are permitted to ask them to do?

I have no idea if you have any knowledge or expertise in this area but I am curious.

I don't know that there are regulations to it, but I'm just not sure if it occurs or not. Most likely, I'm going to say that they don't. There is college film on these guys. It's not AS necessary compared to HS kids. And unlike the process leading up to the draft, the window isn't as big.

I'm definitely no expert. I'm just active in this thread. Trying to share the stuff I come across that could lead to visits, commits. Not just a wish list of every WR out there. (There are a lot)

No professional sport has this type of free agency. In the pros the players are obligated to play out their contract.
Where I am going with my thought process is that if you are a pro football coach or GM and you have an interest in bringing a free agent on to your team, you don't want to just look at a tape of their previous accomplishments and highlights.

You bring them in to evaluate if they still possess that desirable skill set. Something like a pro day scenario for college players that have declared for the draft.

The Bear Alexander news really has me convinced Durant is definitely going pro and we NEED interior DL. Seems like the only reason to take that risk?

Alexander barely played at USC and then transfers out? He has next to 0 production in his career and he’s always been a bag chaser. I don’t think I understand the thought process here.

Potential. Alexander has the potential to be elite in the right situation. USC has been a train wreck under Riley but leaving UGa wasn't smart.

😂 Hagans hot on that FIU trail. What a joke. Let's make sure we keep Liam Clifford from leaving early to become an accountant 😂

It's puzzling. I certainly want Durant to stay. Not sure Durant is big enough for the NFL. He very good but not an Aaron Donald.

I’m confused, are you laughing at the pedigree of the FIU WR?

FWIW, Miami and Michigan are his other suitors so I think there is thought he could be productive at this level.

Apparently the only one that’s worthy of us getting is one that’s not interested in coming here.

He's 290ish I think. That's big enough.
I still think the issue here is people think back to the days when first and second round picks would leave. That's not how it is any more.

I just read that 7 Tennessee football players have entered the portal and are not practicing for the playoff game vs Ohio State. It said none are starters but 4 are contributors as reserves.

So much for the theory that players wouldn't opt out of bowl games if they were in the playoffs.

I looked on the PSU website and roster lists him as 6' 1", 288 lbs. You are probably correct about him being in 290-295 range.

Delco isn't not happy unless he is complaining.

The FIU WR is ranked ahead of portal WRs from Alabama and LSU. He is ranked a 4*

Barely played?? He led USC in defensive snaps last year.

Thanks for your scouting report. Must have watched a lot of his game and film I’m sure.

Regarding Bear, I don't think he is completely to replace Durant. Remember, we probably lose Izzard, J-Thomas along with Beamon who left a month ago. Ford might not be ready for summer camp, we don't know yet.

So that leaves our room thin on starters (which we seemed to know, we took 4 freshman in the '24 class). 1 of those guys has left as well.

The staff is pursuing starter quality DTs. This is EXACTLY what we wanted. Fill in the gaps until the recruits are ready.

In addition to WR (maybe 3 of them), I suspect we go after a safety and a LB as well. Improve the roster. That's the goal.

Didn't feel like this needed it's own thread so I placed it here. Here is their departures as well.
