Anthony Knox and dad drama

Regardless, his school should suspend him for this. Most private schools have honor codes and even if they didn't it is not representative of any school values. I really do not get why so many people (mineo leading the charge) are defending him.
Knox is claiming he went into stands to protect his mom. If this is the case..I agree with him.

I'm not defending him, if that matters. His attorney was arguing, among other things, that Knox was defending his mom. Would that be against his school's honor code?

Did you watch the video in this thread that has captions and freezes? It shows Knox leaving his mom behind on the floor to go into the stands, then his mom following him there.

Knox's, and your, use of "protecting my family" doesn't fit the actions shown.

Ive watched some of the video's and honestly can't tell who is who. That being said, that's why I said "if that's the case."

Yeah, every single person involved in this stuff claims self defense .🙄

Lot of folks live by different rules for different people, everyone wants to see him get his fourth title. Sometime down the road if something terrible happens folks will be saying how did this happen - easy lived a life of no consequences for his actions. So much better for him if he learns this at 19.

Does the NJ athletics rule state you can't leave the bench unless your mom goes into the stands?

Nope..but I don't think a judge worth his salt would penalize a kid if that's the case. You wouldn't protect your mom if you thought she was in trouble?

If you didn't listen to this morning's proceedings, Knox's lawyer pointed out that at these tournaments, there is no "bench." Since Knox's final match (and thus, competition) was over, the lawyer said that Knox was free to go wherever he wanted (say, the concession stand), and therefore wasn't bound by that rule.

He's cooked IMO...
Piss poor judgment by many..
If his dad was actually defending kids from some slurs but you have to be self aware.

Crap like this is why people like communicable diseases more than lawyers.

Technically true, no bench, gotta sit somewhere.

Also true: Knox was not located there. He was elsewhere in the gym and went into the stands from the floor.

What is the rule on punching someone in the face?

That might work against criminal charges, maybe if you squint hard enough. But more likely reduces charges, not eliminates them.

There should be no expectation of avoiding **athletics** punishment when fighting.

"Your honor, the guy impaled himself on my knife 47 times before he gave up. I swear to God."
I was walking my dog on private property that i have access too. Some clown out bow hunting had enough nerve to say to me hey, you need to watch that dog. Dogs who chase deer get shot.

I pulled my sweatshirt up to show I was carrying. I looked at him and said oh my I don't know how I would handle that. By the time the cops got here I suppose I would just tell them the guy who shot my dog was so upset he wrestled my gun away from me and put it in his mouth and pulled the trigger 3 times. His response was hey I didn't mean anything. My reply was yeah you did, but at least now you have a clear understanding there would be consequences.
Never saw him hunting on that property again.

Yep

I'm guessing NJSIAA has a rule, like most states, that allows them to disqualify an athlete for egregiously poor sportsmanship.

Also, doesn't the school itself play a role here? Like, if a student is on video smoking another student (a minor) in the face, aren't they in trouble with the school, too? Student code of conduct? Honor code?

That display is a pointing and presenting felony in South Carolina

It seems like Knox's attorney is arguing that due process has not been followed. That includes providing to the defense the evidence that was used by the board to make its ruling, and being given the opportunity to argue the evidence (and possibly provide other evidence). Seeing videos on social and other media is not legal evidence.

Judge closed by saying he hopes to have a decision today (good thing, as the Regional tourneys start tomorrow afternoon!).

He could provide a "stay" without making an immediate decision.

I would OK with that. Find something better to do than threaten my dog.
My neighbor's son, a now former LEO, got 90 days and 5 years probation for pointing and presenting in a he said/he-she said case. I understand that in PA there is not a similar law, so assault or disorderly is used.

I don't see that as a he said he said necessarily. Pointing the gun allows for identification of said gun which no longer makes it a he said he said. If he had done that before, then history comes into play. To my mind, you need more than a he said he said to convict, so obviously there was more to the story. I live in SC as well, and you have to expect people to be carrying and act accordingly.

The nuances of this case aside, in his version vs their version (there we no neutral observers) he was convicted on 2 of 3 counts.

Why is SJV not stepping up and suspending him. The school has been very quiet. It is events like this as to why people stop officiating and running championships.
