ASU vs. PSU

I like the intrigue of this bumping thing. Zeke recruited RBY hard, so you have to think he knows what RBY has.

I would also think RBY and millhoff have had live gos in the ASU room. So again you have to think Zeke has a gut feeling how this will go.

So im puzzled with this rumor. I love it but Im still a little puzzled.

Nothing puzzling at all my friend. If ASU wants to throw a hail marry attempt at winning the dual this is a logical play. With Milhoff going 125 they are almost guaranteed a split of those 2 matches. Even if only say 5-3 in their favor they gain little.

If they send Milhoff at 133, "on paper" (and in wrestlestat's predictor) they win both and go 7-0. From that perspective it's almost and brainer.

The reality is, and this is a view I share, they could go 0-6 with Schnupp being an unpleasant surprise vs their #2 125 who is no slouch, and RBY taking out Milhoff. Both matches will likely be very close and if there is a split there is no downside for ASU.

Word is, yes, AV taking a shirt this year.

I'm confused about Anthony. At the beginning of the year, they said he was taking a redshirt and he could because his first redshirt was an Olympic shirt. But then AV himself tweeted out that he was going to wrestle this year. But you have Shields at 165 which seems to indicate otherwise. I've always wondered why Anthony just doesn't bump above Zahid. Clearly Zahid wants to be at 174 and unless he's willing to move, Anthony isn't going to be at 174. So why not just go the other direction, rather than killing yourself at the cut to 65, just bulk up to 84. It might not even taking much bulking up as hard as his cut supposedly is.

Not a tweeter, so I cant comment on his Tweet, but he hasnt wrestled yet this year, and may not even be able to beat JS anyway, especially while starving himself.
I gotta think ASU will have quite a trio next year if ZV bumps and AV is at 74.

Edit, speaking of ASU and RS’s... we are definitely visiting them next year, correct?
Honorable move of Cael’s to visit RBY’s home state, but not if he’s shirting.

Early indication that he ISNT shirting next year??

Honorable move for Cael to reciprocate...looking at you Tom Brands.

I missed Anthony’s tweet, so who knows.

Cael did say during the coaches show on Wednesday that RBY will be able to compete in front of his home town crowd next year. Obviously nobody knows for sure but I would call that a possible early indication.
I bet if RBY is shirting next year, PSU does not visit ASU and waits until 2020-2021 season. All bets off if RBY were to get injured after the schedule is posted. The schedule is not finalized until next summer, the staff will have a real good idea if RBY is wrestling or shirting for 2019-2020. Can't imagine ASU having a problem for that, will be more PR and ticket sales for them if RBY is wrestling.

I could be wrong but I'd think ASU will want the dual reciprocated next year regardless of whether RBY is shirting because (a) that's probably what the home-and-home agreement stated; (b) certain gate receipts in year x is worth more than speculative gate receipts in year x+1; (c) scheduling out-of-conference cross-country duals is hard enough without tossing in an x-factor like whether a certain wrestler will redshirt; (d) the teams can always re-up for another home-and-home.

Mark has to beat him in March when Zahid has 10 hours to eat, so beating him tonight after 3 hours better be achievable.
That March bout happened on a Friday night, and there were weigh-ins the next morning, no? So I doubt Valencia was eating for 10 hours on that Friday.

Now last years NCAA final was a different story. Once you make weight in the morning, you can eat as much as you like, right? This is why some people think it may be better to meet Valencia in the NCAA semi rather than in the final. There appears to be empirical evidence to support this opinion.

This ^^. These are contracts, some are 1-year, some are 2-year, some are 3-year, some are longer. As I understand it, ASU is a go at their place next season.

RBY will wrestle unless something unforeseen happens I would guess.

#2020 is not a punt year. IF cassar and rasheed come back we are probably the team to beat again.

Cenzo 165, Hall 174, Brooks at 184, Rasheed up to 97 and Raptorman at Hwy. Thats a lot of top end talent right there.

After a discussion of Hall vs. Valencia, Nomad at FLO suggests that ASU might possibly bump up Milhof from 125 to wrestle RBY at 133. If so, does ASU really have a chance to win the dual?

https://www.flowrestling.org/articl...ncia-vs-2-mark-hall-is-going-down-in-rec-hall

They would likely need to win 125, 133, 149, and 174 and pull off an upset at 165 and/or 184. Unlikely, given PSU's bonus abilities, but could that be a reasonable plan?
Here's a perma comparison with that lineup. Predicts a 25-13 win, and that's WITH Millhof beating RBY.

I just don’t see them bumping up to 33. That’s a lot of weight to give up. I think the extra pounds puts 133 as a pick’em. That’s not in Millhoff’s best interest, imo. If he wins, he should have. If he loses, it’s to an unranked true freshman.
There’s no road ASU can take that ends in a dual win, so is it worth it? It’s not about giving fans a show. It’s about giving your wrestlers their best chance to win their match.
If milhoff bumps up and losses at 133, the loss actually does not negatively effect his ranking for NCAA's at 125. That's how i always understood the rule when it comes to rankings and weight switches.

Exactly my point, and, (no evidence of this of course) but ya gotta wonder how much the tolerance was at 2017 AllStar match.

Maybe this is better in the mailbag thread, but felt it was more appropriate here. Foley answers a question about Hall v Zahid, and he throws in a "If it even happens..." Now I know that Foley knows nothing more (and maybe less) than the average fan, but I have heard zero about the match not happening, and knowing the bit I do about Mark and Zahid, I doubt either are duckers (other than as a TD move), nor have I heard about any injury.

Thoughts?

My reaction to that is Foley going for clicks. I wouldn't count that as poor journalism, I would count is as complete BS, not to mention rather pathetic on his part to do something like that.

Pathetic indeed, save the drama, this aint the WWE.

Edit: any true fan of either team knows that neither coach, nor neither wrestler would even consider skipping this match.

Personally, don't understand the mention.

I get being cryptic. Do it too, when the situation warrants and I can't just come out and write something straight up. In my case, it feels like "playing dumb". In this case, I'm not sure he's playing.

From the ASU match notes:
HOME-AND-HOME WITH NO. 1 PENN STATE

In 2018, Arizona State will face the reigning national champions, No. 1 Penn State in State College, Pa. on Dec. 14, 2018. As part of a home-and-home series, the Nittany Lions will trek to Tempe in 2019-20.

I believe his reference was to the trend of ducking (or supposed trend) and not anything particular about either Zahid or Hall. He's a columnist, not a reporter. And he's sloppy with facts, always has been for as long as I've read him.

I get why he drives people crazy but I also don't understand why everyone wastes ink and energy getting driven crazy by him. It doesn't reflect well on BWI to hold him out like a pinata every week, given the scant influence he otherwise has on wrestling debate.

Thought is that context is needed; i.e., exactly what is meant by "it" in the quote "If it even happens ..."? Can't tell from the post above.

Disclaimer - I did not read Foley's column, as is the norm for me.

Because pinatas are fun.

Sh!t happens, I can't make it to the match. Anyone want 2 tickets? Would love to give them to someone wanting to take a youth wrestler to their first Rec Hall match, but just want them used. I know short notice. I assume there will be traffic here than the Ticket thread.
