CKLV

Shapiro gassing so badly doesn’t really bode well for his tournament chances unless he can improve that over the season, but I still think he’ll end up as a top 5 in the weight class though dual match results before the tournament season starts.
I agree. The talent level and motor are obvious and elite, but in his first loss, he hit the wall in the 3rd, and in the second loss he never really had it. I expect him to be able to beat almost anyone in a dual. It's still early season, but maybe he has a bit of an Achilles heel relative to gas tank in a tournament setting, or maybe his conditioning is just not there yet. Time will tell but like so many of our hammers that had early freshmen year losses, he still looks like the real deal to me

Bouzakis & Paddy are showing that it’s more than just recruiting when it comes to Penn State’s success. Obviously, you’re not going to be a champion without elite recruits, but you’re not going to be a champion without the correct training and coaching and environment, either.
This can't be true, Voltz said it's just recruiting.

I think sometimes people miss the likely piece that CCC see differences among similarly-ranked recruits that translate into success. I’m convinced it’s the hidden piece such that if you did the oft-offered test of trading similarly-ranked recruits from other programs, that CCC’s results would fall between their actual (lower) performance our our guys’ (higher) performance.

Any questions, lol!

I'm a huge Shapiro fan and I'm sure this will be just a small blip in a hugely successful wrestling career. He'll be great at Cornell. That said, the ever-present question I ask of every elite recruit that goes elsewhere is how much greater their career might have been if they had chosen to be coached by Cael and Company.

A lot of the Ohio State guys look like specimens but are very stiff and not imaginative. Can you imagine what our crew could have done with Myles Martin? That kid had all the tools but was lost at sea when the scrambling started. Both Max Dean and Nickal gave him a master class in scrambling
It's as if Ohio State primarily drills in practice and does little play wrestling. IDK if that's true, but that would be the result.

Regarding Martin: not just what Cael could've done. Ryan got outcoached by Koll. Dean has said that they adjusted after each of the 2 losses to Martin that year, and each match got closer.

He had 1 takedown against 3 D1 opponents before CKLV started.

That 1 was in SV against an Oregon State backup 141 who bumped up to 149.
I was counting the Penn match last night and I also counted the two matches against teammates (Ferrari and Jeserogo). 6 matches, 1 takedown. That is unreal

I wouldn't be shocked if Shapiro was under the weather or something this weekend. Then again, he could just be getting used to applying his pace against much stronger, more conditioned guys of D1. Time will probably tell. His ceiling is still miles high.

But how much did he push and shove? We've all been told that pushing and shoving is how to setup a takedown but have never actually seen them attempt a takedown.

This board is hilarious. Shapiro was a LOCK finalist after the Andonian match. If Levi had lost twice in a tourney last year, this board would’ve gone mad. If Braeden loses once or twice, I can’t wait to see the immediate calls for Steen, or the Hail Mary for McHenry. If Shapiro wrestled for Penn State, this board would be going nuts and asking for Barraclough to cut to 157.

Let's not get carried away. No doubt, Shapiro is the real deal, but complete funk isn't going to beat someone of his calibre 9 out of 10 times. Andonian has a punchers chance against anybody, so that answered some questions.
Well said.

Sir this is a Wendy’s.

Didn't Shapiro take injury time early in the consolation bout against Chumbley? Shapiro didn't look right after that.

Also, I read that Shapiro tweaked a knee at the Journeyman a couple weeks ago. Maybe he re-injured the knee against Chumbley?

Whatever the case, Shapiro is way better than what he showed in that 2-1 loss to Chumbley. Something was wrong there.
