Lord, Lizak was about as gassed as any wrestler I've ever seen. That was awful. No resistance at all in period 3.
Btw, a pretty awful performance by Minny today. Didn't show up at all, really. Reminded me of PSU/Wisconsin at Rec Hall in 2009. And that's not good.

When Lizak gave up that reversal towards the end of the 2nd and didn't make any attempt to escape, I thought he was in trouble. His only hope was if Gilman was looking to prove something and chose bottom.
Here's the thing...winning does not justify that type of behavior. Whether he wins or loses he is still a D bag. That's what he and his Iowa fans just don't get.
We at least know that Suriano will not gas like Lizak did.
They might want to study Lizak's initial shot, but other than that there is nothing applicable to Nick's skill set.
I doubt it. Nick isn't nearly as good on top as Lizak. Lizak is known for his top game, but he is very average on his feet. I kind of knew Gilman would pick him apart in the 3rd, but didn't realize Lizak would be that gassed.
Lizak reminded me of Andrew Alton today...it was actually sort of frightening. It's dangerous when a kid gasses like that. It was actually sort of a relief that he got pinned, to tell the truth. I haven't seen a kid gas like that since Alton.
Agree that Lizak's game is the ride. However, if he is "very average on his feet" and he still took Gilman down, then Suriano should be able to take him down as well. And probably more than once.
The match was an anomaly: Even the next match between Lizak an Gilman won't resemble that. Lizak gassed so badly that it was scary, I was worried for him.

And please, before anyone tries this one, the fact that we are discussing Gilman's douchiness right now is not "proof" that it is "good for the sport". It's only proof that he is an amazingly huge Dbag. Nothing more.

So just wanted to point out something real quick. I know you guys dont like Gilman and his his antics which is ok. But are some of you worse? Just in this thread alone.. Gilman is a disrespectful punk, insufferable, classless, classless punk, asinine, douche, douchebag x3, a bully and he is an idiot that can only understand 2 and 3 syllable words that have pictures to go along and will likely be changing oil at jiffy lube after he is launched in every direction in the freestyle circuit and his body is wore out. I suggest your disregarding of his behavior is far more indicative of your character. Think about it. When you tolerate it or celebrate it, it's endorsement of it. It's like the people who sit by and smile silently when the racist drops N word jokes.

Answer me this. IF Gilman was in a PSU singlet, would you and HR be ok with all his antics? Would you guys defend him then? I mean look at how HR treats and talks about Tyler Berger after his match Kemmerer. So what is the difference between the two, besides the fact Gilman has shown a much greater of history of getting in altercations and showing very little sportsmanship? I mean all this is such a double standard.
And for us labeling Gilman, me included as I can not stand him, I am sure Gilman loves it and could careless. But he does bring it all on himself. Sorry but I just can not see any way to defend him or his lack of class, unless you have your black and gold glasses on.

So now the question is this...what is Brands' motivation for tacitly endorsing Gilman's career long pattern of misbehavior? It's got to be one of the following, I'd say:
1. He thinks it's "good" for his team, because it fires them up in some way.
2. He tolerates it because he is by far the best wrestler on his team and he does not have the balls to confront him about it.
3. He thinks it shows "passion" for the sport.
4. He does not think any of the behavior is disrespectful or low-class.
Any other possible reasons? What do people think?

On most teams, this is "checked" by the team captains, so it never even needs to go to the coaches. "Thomas, stop acting like a _______", should suffice.
Not here - he IS a Captain! Thereby assuring the "great Iowa tradition" gets passed down to the next generation - Lee, Teasdale, etc...
That's exactly the point. If it was one time, you label the behavior as classless. If it's a LONGSTANDING pattern of behavior, as with Gilman, it becomes, by definition, part of your character.
It COULD be funny, but it's pretty clear given team's reactions to this, that they don't think so. That, in itself, puts the repeated action of this squarely in the douchebag column.It's sort of funny, but still, what a douchebag move.
I'd guess #4, and Brands thinks it may help Gilman get "fired up" to wrestle at his best.
I also suspect that no one on the Iowa team knew what Gilman had in mind at the pre-meet introductions.
