Iowa dual thread - Jan 31

For all of the folks thinking any of the top 3 197s are just going to wilt to Josh's onslaught, I think your blue and white lenses are a bit too thick.

The Poz match was one for the ages, and I don't think we will see something like that ever again from any wrestler. 0-0 in the 3rd to TF, really? Truly amazing.

1). Poz is good but far from great, and. 0-0 match after two is honestly a bit discouraging.
2). Barr broke him mentally as much as drove him to the end of his gas tank - he gave up in somewhat embarrassing fashion
3). Buchanan is on a whole different level, athletically, physically, and wrestles as the aggressor.
4). Barr is also tired in the 3rd period. His gas tank is not unlimited, but tasting blood in the water fired him up mentally vs Poz.

Barr is exceeding all expectations so far, and is visibly getting better each match, but those that are calling for him to wilt Buchanan in the same way aren't being honest.

Barr's defense appears elite. We will get validation Friday vs Buch's strong offense. Our room knows Buch very very well and our preparation and game plan with be very focused and effective. I suspect the game plan will be for a 0-0 1st, then 1 escape for each leading to a mid-3rd period go for the winning TD. That is a best case scenario and Buch will be prepared for the same. It should be epic, but those expecting a 5+ point easy victory or a wilting Buchanan in the 3rd are asking for way too much IMO.

I didn't think the ref on Saturday did a bad job, maybe 1 or 2 stall calls that weren't warranted etc.. But overall a good job.
Hard not to let the home crowd influence you.
That’s good because he’s doing Friday’s dual against Iowa in the BJC

Pre-game championship Sunday thoughts from old guy rooting for two NFL upsets (though perfectly fine with a Philly/Saquon win, too).
If I’m Iowa, I’d rather see Angelo v Carter this Friday for a better take on him, leaving Gabe for a likely bout at B1Gs. That way, coaches see both young guns against a departing legend.
Also believe if an uninjured Ayala goes, he beats Davis. No knock on Braedon, just think Ayala’s craftier and quicker right now.
Also believe Teemer may give up stalling points, but his cobra-like strikes and power will defeat Tyler, at least this time.
No way Josh ragdolls Buchanan like he did Poz and won’t be surprised by a close loss. If Josh does rock the building, there’s no reason he doesn’t leapfrog to the new #1 next week.
Didn’t care for thin, lethargic Kerk at Rutgers, but more than willing to believe the “sick” buzz. If still less than by Friday, still think he handles Kueter, but no problem having Lucas or Cole have a go.
manatree wrote this on the Intermat forum. I assume he has a paid account that allows him to access the weigh-in database on Trackwrestling. Other than his weight gain over Christmas break his weight has been quite consistent:

An incomplete look at Kerk’s weight this year:

Nov 17: 243

Dec 8: 246

Dec 15: 246

Dec 22: 245.6

Jan 7: 254.6

Jan 14: 244.8

Jan 24: 242.4

Any chance this is some sort of Sun Tzu head game desperation from Arnold with the goal of getting Starocci to wrestle stupid and maybe do something to lose a team point? I know, I know… but the possibility crossed my mind.
Could be. That way Iowa will lose by 28 instead of 29.

Not sure who else watched it, but Teemer had some highlight reel takedowns against Sasso yesterday. Cat-like quick, clean and smooth as silk. Was astonished how deep he got before Sasso even reacted.
Teemer looked good but, very sadly, Sasso is just a shadow of his former self.

Not me or @82bordeaux.

For those watching for a reply from Carter, I’ll bet there’s one of two scenarios happening and possibly both.

1. He’s really steaming but has decided to hold back his reply until he steps on the mat on Friday.
2. CCC&N told him to keep quiet and use it for motivation on Friday.

He's probably employed Beau to make up some creative graphics to post afterwards.

3. He doesn't really care if Gabe Arnold yaps, he's a nobody to Carter.

With AJ, he was a way more notorious name and as much as we hate him, he has done something in college wrestling.

A lion doesn't concern itself with the opinions of a sheep as they say.

4. He has been salivating for someone to actually wrestle him.

Talk is talk, but in the off chance Arnold truly believes his wrestlerspeak (and Tom actully let’s him take the mat), Carter will be grateful and give just a little bit extra in the gratitude department.

5. Bob and Tom are trying extra hard to make Carter prep for Arnold when the plan is to send out Ferrari . . . and they really think they are being clever.

Carter’s best response would be no social media acknowledgment then just curb stop him on Friday.

My guess is some posters have complete disdain for anything Iowa related which leads them to make up issues in their minds to downplay any ounce of success by an Iowa wrestler or they are genuinely worried about the match up, so they are trying to convince themselves Buchanan has an issue to make themselves more confident in the match up. Bottom line, Barr is outstanding, especially for a freshman. Buchanan is the best at 197 right now. Both will bring it, and I'm excited to watch the match up.
Fair enough. Buchanan is a three time AA about to be four and. Who is he training with? Who is coaching him? When was the last time Iowa had a upper weight NC how many upper weight NC's has PSU had since 2021. You can't look at what Josh Barr is doing and not think this kid has more weapons in his arsenal than Carter did when he beat Kemdog and pound for pound i'd take Kemdog over Buchanan. It's audacious and seemingly homerish but this kid can win on 1/31 and either way next Friday turns out, if it's Saturday night in March and these two are lacing up my money is on the kid who is coached by Casey etc, and works our with Carter, AB, Levi, and Kerk.

You also need to consider the TnT beat down factor. This is the end of January. The NCAA tournament is still 1 2/3 months away. For all we know, Buchanan might not even be able to weigh in by that time.

That's all great but has nothing to do with whether Buchanan has a gas tank or not.

I may have started this by noticing Buchanan breathing heavy in the first period. He was. The guys we have counted on in March don't breath heavy in SV. It's was just noticeable. Watch all of our SV finals matches in the Cael era no one is breathing as hard as Buchanan was against Ohio st.

My initial thought from Gabe's call out of Carter. He is probably worried that Brands will throw out Ferrari for the match on Friday and hopes that making this public will help his cause to wrestle. Otherwise, how do call out a Four-Timer after just going SV with Ryder Rotgotze......c'mon man.
