Iowa Predictions

Murin will be healthy right after the numbers 1 and 2 ranked kids leave town.

What is the seeding risk for Murin to wrestle (and presumably lose) to guys that everyone already has ranked ahead of him?

This is the exact same thing as that other website constantly saying Shak ducked Myles Martin to protect his seed. It's dumb.

What is dumb is not understanding a subject, yet speaking anyhow.
What is probable now is at the Big10 seeding meeting Brands can argue an undefeated Murin is deserving of a number 1 seed, and a one loss Pletcher or Lee is a number 3 seed.
The chances that happens is slight at best, but the chances are substantially higher than they would have been if Murin had 2 losses, one each to Pletcher and Lee.
If memory serves correctly just a year ago a 5-0 Mike Carr got the first seed while 1 loss Nick Lee and Joey McKenna got 2nd and 3rd seeds.

Considering Murin already lost to Chad Red, it's going to be hard for Brands to make that argument.

Murin is wrestling with a giant shoulder sling. If he misses matches, I'd assume it has more to do with that than protecting his seed against guys who are already getting seeded above him.

Yeah, I already forgot that 3rd ranked Murin had lost to Red.
However, as far as seeding goes Murin will probably enter that seeding meeting as a one loss wrestler instead of a 3 loss wrestler.
You can believe whatever you want, Max's shoulder is obviously not in top notch shape. Right after Iowa's schedule gets past Ohio State and Penn State Max's shoulder will still be less than perfect, but it will be good enough to go.
Right after Iowa's schedule got past OSU, Warner will not need any more breaks either.

You could both be correct. Lee is very likely to spend about half of the match on top of Murin punishing that shoulder where the lesser guys are not good enough to do that. Being the nail puts a lot more risk of injury on a guy than being the hammer. I would rather Berge compete against a lesser guy than someone like Hidley or Deaken while he tries to recover. Brands could be protecting his wrestler instead of the seed. I think both Cael and Brands are doing everything they can to try to put the healthiest/best team on the mat at the BIG tournament.

Ditto that.

I agree. It's all about getting guys to March as healthy as possible.

That's why I think it's shitty to doubt injuries, especially when guys are wearing giant braces that make inhibit their motion and their wrestling. That goes for Shak's knee or Murin's shoulder.

Want to know what I just remembered? Last year, RBY first match off of his knee injury was opening @ OSU (where some people thought we could lose) against Pletcher and he came through for us.

Can he do it again!? (Would go a long way if he immediately counters Spencer's 5 or 6 by taking down ADS)

Did you make posts like that when Shak was held out because of his knee? Do you see how it works for both teams? Hopefully you start to get it soon.

Part of seeding criteria is win percentage. A loss affects this adversely whether it's to a guy ranked ahead of you or not.

And I'll f Iowa has a big lean at heavy no Cass. Bank on it

125 Iowa 5 (if not 6)
133 Iowa 3 (Really hope RBY figures this out but Desanto has shown bigger gains this year than RBY to this point)
141 PSU 5
149 Iowa 3 (If Verk doesn't get pinned he should keep it below a major)
157 Iowa 4 (If it were Berge, which I don't think it will be, I'd lower that to a 3)
165 PSU 3 - Changed from Iowa (even though everything lines up for a Marinelli win besides the national championships, I've got to just go on hope here)
174 PSU 3
184 PSU 3 - Changed (Everything tells me Assad should win, but hoping AB steps up to the challenge)
197 Iowa 3
HWT Iowa 3

PSU 14 Iowa 21

Ok here goes my prediction. It comes down to heavy Cass tries a big move and snacks gets the pin. You can hear a pin drop in Carver arena and HR implodes with next year comments, Caels cheating and TNT need fired

Has happened before. Mark Janus with a fall over a ranked Wes Hand in CHA in 1998.

i think this meet will be a lot closer than you guys think. give our boys some credit.

#1. We are favorites at 2 weights but even heavy favorites can get Carvered. We would need to find bonus at 141 and 174 but it won't be easy to bonus against either wrestler. I think Mark might take a risk losing the match trying to get KemDawg to his back (which has been done before but only twice)

Micah Jordan and Dylan Palacio. Kemerer has only eight losses in his career, and he's been pinned twice? I'm trying to think of other top guys who have been pinned, and coming up with a very short list. Lee famously by Piccinninni (who himself was pinned by Lee, Gilman, and Baughman). Gilman was pinned twice. Garrett (injured) was pinned by Gilman. Any top PSU guys get pinned?

Not sure who "you guys" are, I see a tie (before criteria), a couple of two-point wins, a couple of 7-point wins, and two 8-point wins, all in Iowa's favor, but reasonable. There are two who picked a 19-point and 22-point win.

What would you pick?

I still want to see good effort, and the guys wrestling with high energy. Frankly speaking, with the number of close bouts, I see anything from a very narrow PSU win to a 10-point loss as in the realm of likely.

4-6 point loss for the good guys. i expect some bonus from 141, 165, 174, 184 and 285. send the message

David Taylor.

Dean, Heflin, Delgado, Moore, and Kindig all got pinned by Penn Staters.

Heil got pinned by Red that counted, and by Gulibon that didn't.

Moore got pinned at nationals too.

Doubt Berge.. even if ready, goes in CHA after this layoff so predicting the wider margin..

Not much love for Shak here.

I admit he has looked rusty, but Iowa isn't exactly sending Colin Moore out on the mat. Just a hint of the old Rasheed could be enough to take out Warner.

I know the transitive property doesn't usually apply, but Warner an Shak have identical 3-1 losses to Schultz. 197 is a toss-up IMO.

Any one else in Bwi going?
It's not same lineup(s) as when tickets were purchased, but I still think this is going to a really fun and competitive dual.

Nick Lee pinned by the OK St kid at the scuffle

Nick got pinned a few times early in his career. Ryan Diehl pinned him at NCAAs (I thought we lost right there) Eierman's backup pinned him his greyshirting year.

Q, Nico, DT.

It's not all that unusual. Zahid got pinned last year. Tomasello got pinned in the national semis. Snyder and Martin got pinned in the finals. Martinez got pinned twice, once in the finals.

And both Imar pins were by PSU freshmen.
