Faith has seven in the semis. That’s crazy at an event like Ironman. They might be the best team I have witness in pa history. Mcort isn’t far behind

Faith kids know how to win and Mcort kids scoring in bunches. Both programs are repping Pa well in the toughest event in the country

No. Walsh Jesuit High School. It is outside Akron. Interestingly, it is a good sports school, but not really known for wrestling.
When the tournament was founded, Walsh was probably the best team in the country. They unseated St. Ed’s in the ‘90s with state championships in 91, 93,94, 95, 96, 97, 99, 2000.

They started the Ironman in the 1994-95 season as a little 15 team invitational with monster programs - Walsh, St. Ed’s, Easton, Nazareth, Northampton, and Independence, California (with Eric Guerrero). Blair came for the first time the next year. Tournament has obviously exploded, even as Walsh has fallen back to Earth.

I am speaking about recently, though I don't follow it that closely. I do live about 30 minutes from Walsh. Walsh Jesuit is probably best known now for baseball. St. Ed's on the other hand has been a wrestling power for a long time and still is.

Walsh was #1 in the country in '94-'95 . in DEC of '95 they were Preseason #1 and beat us (#4-Easton) in a dual 27-27 on criteria.

later that month, we beat them at Reno TOC and became #1. we won the title. they took 4th. but we dropped a dual in FEB to Nazareth who was like #6 and the ranker/s put Walsh back to #1.

anyway, yes, Walsh was very good for a stretch, including at the time when Ironman was founded.

I wrestled Adam Plouse in 1995 at high school nationals or whatever it was called back then. He was a state champion for that number 1 team. They were loaded with Heskett, Sonny Marchette, Jimmy Johnson, Jeff Knupp, etc.

It’s crazy the difference in levels with the best guys. Rivera’s pretty good, #3 p4p guy in Utah, multi-time Reno placer, may have placed at Doc B. Not sure other accolades, but he’ll wrestle in college somewhere. Didn’t belong on the same mat with MB.

My cousin wrestled at a JUCO in Iowa and then was in the Iowa room for two years. He wrestled Isaiah Salazar at a tournament here in the west and same thing.

There’s always someone somewhere better

@smalls103 - any idea why this dude below (Adam Columbo), Nazareth Asst, hates Penn State so much? Did Cael ask him if he had a plan?

For the uninitiated, I ask this because if you are at all active on other wrestling social media, this dude pops up like a wart from time to time to give Iowa pudwhackers like Weh8state and Burd a run for the money in attacking Penn State

Desmond with a controlling 9-3 win over Botero. Rode the piss out of him. Great top wrestlers almost always do well in college. It’s such a weapon and Desmond is great on top
believe botero was 2-0 against him prior to this shows how desmond has jumped levels. Botero is also a better 120 than 126 IMO

There are a lot of PSU haters in the Valley. Not so strange, think North Jersey Italians - not much PSU vibe with those guys - they are close cousins with the Valley.

I can say this with pride in my NJ/Lehigh Valley Italian heritage. I know my chicken. Or rather "conosco i miei polli."

Wow! Mendoza beats Vega 4-0! Everyone is sleeping on Mendoza me included. Kid just wins. I thought Vega was a pretty decent favorite. That said I don’t think Mendoza can hang with Blaze

Vega’s shot defense looks like it consists of twisting a knee

Asher just keeps jumping levels. Stewart is a legit hammer and Asher controlled the match. He’s so damn sticky on top. I’m really interested to see him in college. The finals match between him and Henckel should be good

You can definitely see Casey's fire in Asher, it happened off camera but he took exception to something Stewart did and retaliated and the ref had to warn both when they returned to center. Sky is truly the limit for him.

Like I said, he basically sets up the bow and arrow perfectly every time when he's riding but in HS, he can't use it yet.

Aren’t we worried Asher will switch to OSU because he was at M2 😉

I mean, I’ve seen that logic before

Iowa actually has a recruit?
Iowa does recruit talented, hard working kids. We just don't know many of them because the kids interested in Iowa and those interested in Penn State make up different lists.
Their list has the guys looking to win 2-1 matches with proper stall calls. Our list is has the guys who are looking to learn how to score 15 points a match.
