Wrestling LIVE THREAD: Penn State vs. Iowa

Bill Koll wouldn’t be able to accept our inability to stand and escape… why don’t they just ask John Fritz to give a one hour lesson on the stand up… the longest he was ridden one year was 7 seconds!…

Wow was that horrible. Max Dean saves our asses. Mad Max!!!!!

Not sure I'd call that horrible. Other than Kerk and other than the major by Marinelli (with some help), I called every match almost exactly. I didn't really expect Berge to beat Marinelli, although I had hoped it would be closer. While I presumed and thought Kerk would beat Cass, it's not as if that was a thumping, Kerk learned not to go upper body with him and he'll get him next time. Good dual meet for PSU on the road in Carver.

Kerk will be fine other than the unfortunate seed he just gave himself. Lesson learned - he is not a thrower, at least not to guys with a lower center of gravity. Blew up in his face twice.
He should still get 3 in Big with another chance at Tony

dean deserved that victory and would have won in SV anyway, but the bow and arrow should be illegal. it's far more dangerous than all sorts of other illegal moves.
Pretty sure touching the ref is illegal now - without a rule change. No call there either.

Some bad choices there by Kirk. Sometimes you have to just back out of a position and get to a more favorable one. I suspect the match will look different next time. Also How was Iowa aloud to double thy pry for unlimited amounts of time. Warner and Cass love to have two hands full of crotch at all times. That is the definition of top stalling.

Kerk losing is actually not so bad. He knows what to do to beat Cass, This puts Parris on Gables side of the bracket at Big 10's, Kerk gets 2nd there and likely the 3rd seed overall and likely puts Parris and Cass as the 4/5 in the quarters.

Not disappointed in the Kerk match. Learning point.

Aaron should have put up an MD, though. I don’t understand racking up that much (first period) riding time against a guy you can wreck on your feet. Just kill the guy from neutral and try to go feet to back. If Ayala had gone tonight, we could have lost.

I am good with us peaking in March as we always do. A lot of rough ends and some conditioning to work on.

HR - queu up the with Spencer we win talk

we win with spencer and therefore i declare us the victors in my mind palace.

congrats on the win. sorry for getting a little hot over the kem match. i stole a million takedowns in that position in high school and am passionate about merkels/merkel-adjacent holds.

Oh well. I thought Greg was going to run by Cassioppi. I was wrong.
Same here. After the way Kerk handled Parris last week, I thought he had a clear edge over Cass.

He just needs to stay away from the upper body stuff (or get better at it).

I want Kerk to come back next year looking like Brock Lesner.... Than he can go upper body.

Kerk's strategy was fine. He got to the legs three times and only converted the first. Worse, he allowed Cass twice to go upper body. But pretty sure that wasn't part of the plan.
He needs to stay out of the upper body stuff. Attack from distance, move in and out, drop levels, make the bigger slower guy have to react to your movement. If he can take Paris down, then he should be able to take Cass down 2+ times.

A win is a win but gotta be a bit disappointed with that one. Good wins at 41 and 74 against tough guys and good grind at 97 but other 7 underperformed. No doubt we will make the adjustments needed by March, but that was not our best effort.

We would have but injuries happen. Just like if Berge doesn’t get hurt last year you guys could have won the team title. But then if Marinelli doesn’t get hurt we probably still win. Could do this exercise all day. You wrestle with what you got and Iowa didn’t have enough tonight.

Not sure how you can like "tough wrestling " and not like the bow and arrow. Its kinda the same answer my dad gave me when I asked him how to stop double boots the first time I got worked by them on bottom. I asked Dad how do I stop that. His answer, Don't get in them.

It appeared to me that Kem had the takedown before time was out, but Rivera didn't make the call until time had run out.

Congrats. You got 8 of 10 right. 80%. Solid B-

Didn’t really understand Kerk trying to go up top with Cass. Thought Cass could of honestly went for the pin on that last one. Great dual tho. Out of all of the “toss up” matches, iowa only won one of them.

Blah blah blah. So we’re gonna hear how the Brands were like every other brothers are in the world. Beating the hell out of each other. Fighting like hell, picking up rakes and shovels to beat your older brother with it when you’ve lost the upper hand. Breaking shit in the house, mamma chasing us around to beat us with a belt because you broke her lamp…

Yadda yadda yadda…
