Wrestling LIVE THREAD: Penn State vs. Iowa

I’m struggling to believe this myself, but someone on HR just posted that Penn State looked bigger than Iowa at most weigh classes and then someone else seconded it and said it makes them wonder

Someone please tell me where we looked big or bigger at a weight class. Please.
125 we looked bigger. That was it..

Sorry. Wrestling is a combat sport. Your goal is to break and beat the man across from you. By any legal means necessary. There's no hiding, no second string substitute. It sucks ass when it's your man getting beat, but it's part of the sport. It always has been, hopefully it always will.

I've watched Spencer run a few double arm bars that got to be just as painful as the bow and arrow.
Agree to an extent. Refs are way more likely to protect the shoulder than other joints for some reason. I have seen them stop the arm bar a lot quicker than anything else.

This! Flew over there, in their arena, in front of their crowd and got the W. A good night for us.

And the best thing is, Brands isn’t gonna have to apologize for winning.

Whatever the f*** he means by that…
He should explain why his twin brother graduated in a different year than him

Pain, and painful moves, have always been part of wrestling.

HR will be going nuclear with every possible excuse to rationalize tonight's outcome. Their madness will know no bounds for days, if not weeks, to come. That said, like an accident, you just can't take your eyes off it. Plus - bonus - Hawkeye tears are sweeter than honey and man are they flowing tonight!

This is their way of saying PEDs. They've done this over the years whenever they lose.

174- What a great match. 2 high quality guys and can go either way. Ref matters when they wrestle because they are so close. I think Carter is the better guy but Kim can take 4 out of 10.
And yet 14,000 booed and CStar got hit with a bottle.

We were definitely smaller at 149, 157, 165 and 197. Prob 141 too. I won’t mention HWT cause that’s different. Such an odd post on HR.

Another missed Rivera call imho. Anyone remember the mat return Marenelli did as time expired in 2nd Period? It was clearly a "slam" and a rulebook defined Illegal Return - no call from Rivera. Essentially, it is illegal to do a "Mat Return" where you lift your opponent up, turn them on your hip and let go of them on the return - if you let go as Marenelli did on that lift and return, it is considered a "body slam" and is illegal (1 point I believe).

Same guys who hear their coach said something about not being afraid of a kitty, but if you see a grizzly you should be scared. They’re like Holy Sh:t, he’s right. They get it printed in yellow letters on a black shirt.

Probably donhawkidiot, mvpidiot, ironbaridiot, or vodkaidiot with the old stale steroid accusations.

Your shtick gets old after a while.

Brands are crazy and should be banned from wrestling!

Desanto should be in prison!

Iowa cries about stalling and it’s bad for wrestling!

Cael is the greatest coach of all coaches in the history of coaches!

If you want to win national titles the only school to go to is Penn St!

Brands make their guys hate wrestling!

It’s what we do!

My prediction? Pain!

And the dynasty….just….got….stronger!

Cael and Casey are playing chess and everyone else is playing checkers!

This sounds like an HR post. Bull ragrolled Berge - we just gotta take that one and hope to get better.

125 PSU was larger, 133 and 141 were a push. Starting at 149 PSU was decidedly smaller at 149, 157, 165, 197, and 285 with 174 and 184 basically even. Maybe these clowns listened to the match on the radio instead of watching it with actual working eyeballs.

I'm absolutely baffled how Rivera didn't call a single stall on those rides by Iowa - you can't just lay on someone's back as a ride for more than 10 or 15 seconds, let alone multiple minutes, without getting top-stalling called! Kerk wrestled a really bad match, but it's ridiculous that Cass didn't get called for stalling with that beyond lame ride - it was clear top-stalling and he should have been dinged multiple times for that ride.

I know the pain feels real right now buddy. It will be better tomorrow.

Let's get ready to rumble.

Clear the couch of the dog or the kids or the spouse. Turn off the fire alarm. Secure the floorboards.

Everyone needs some elbow room. And maybe some room to dance.
My wife and I have a friend who recently died and we were in the Will to take the dog. We basically moved into her house to keep the dog there.

Her house gets the Big10 on Cable my cable company does not offer it. Watching the match at her house, during the Max Dean match I scared the shit out of the dog yelling for Max to hold Warner there. The dog tried to go outside. Hopefully I'll get the dog in Wrestling yelling shape by March.

125 easily. Other than that I thought away was bigger. Maybe 174 and 184 could be close. The rest I thought iowa looked much bigger.

are you new to college wrestling? it's an epidemic.

I in no way said Berge deserved to win or that Marenelli didn't win easily, but the lift and return I referred to was clearly illegal (a "body slam"). The return being illegal and not called by bozo Rivera has zero to do with anything you wrote.

During the RBY match, when one of the Brands fellas took his shoe off and was playing with it. Was he doing that to the ref or was it in the direction of the PSU bench?

I thought Marinelli had a few extra curriculars tonight. Pushing after whistle, etc.

I actually thought RBY and Nick Lee would win more comfortably. I was worried Murin would lose on a late TD. Warner giving up the TD and the bow and arrow at the end was the most disappointing outcome to me. Cass winning surprised me the most. Overall I have more confidence after this performance than after the Ohio St dual.

The Ref - he was trying to claim that RBY was grabbing AD's foot in an illegal manner.

I think for Penn State fans, we saw a little less than we saw last Friday at Michigan. Sounds like Iowa fans saw more than they saw at Ohio State a week ago. On that, I say Iowa was at home, wasn’t coming off a meet against #3 and didn’t have to wrestle twice over the weekend. Glad PSU could still squeak it out.

Congrats on the win! Tough losses at 133, 141, 174 and 197 for Iowa. Great win by Cass! I love the upper body stuff he comes up with. Sucks Kemerer didn't get that merkle TD at the end of regulation. Would have been a 16-16 dual score. Shoulda coulda woulda.

Im glad everyone that wrestled seemed to stay healthy after. Hope to see Ayala back soon. See you at Big Tens!

@86PSUPaul i paid my 50$ bet off to WFL but I haven't got a receipt sent to my email yet. Any ideas on how to get one? I will post it when I figure that out. Hope you had a great time tonight! Cheers

Just think the officiating angle is overplayed. I agree Rivera sucks, and the nature of folkstyle wrestling is a lot of ambiguity.

The incessant stall call uproar is too much. Everytime someone loses a match, this board and especially HR scream “He’s Stalling!!!!”. Just hope we can be better than that. It’s as predictable as the sun coming up. In every match tonight the wrestler who deserved to win won. If you’re worried about stall calls, do more so it’s not even a concern.

I would say that Lee looked a little smaller than Eierman, but not that much. And C-Star definitely looked smaller than Kem.

Agree. If this dual was at BJC it could have been worse for the Hawks. I’m looking forward to Big 10’s and some rematches. It’s going to be a fun 6 weeks.

I wonder if the BIG are having thoughts about letting Angel ref football. He already has the screw PSU on every call down. He'd be a perfect fit in this league.
There were times I literally wondered if he was even watching.

I don't want any penalty points like that, unfortunately Iowa seems to think they deserve 4 or 5 every match.
