Match Thread Maryland Dual Discussion/PBP

Wow. His beef should be with his own kid for quitting.

Just watched the 141 match (hadn't seen it previously, just listened to Byers). The scramble in the first period went forever (Clemson whined about it), but in fairness, they were never in a true stalemate position, Beau continued to work to improve and score the takedown. Admittedly, I'm biased, but I have no problem with the ref letting them wrestle through that. It was a nice win for Beau over someone that beat Mathews by major decision this year.

The Ref also failed to start the "Neutral Danger" count on MD Wrestler multiple times during the scramble (supposed to start Neutral Danger count when back breaks 90°, not 45° - MD wrestler's back crossed 90° multiple times during that scramble but the Ref never started count once.).

No way you stalemate a scramble where one wrestler has the advantage and is repeatedly putting the other in Neuteal Danger. Frankly, the Neutral Danger TD should have been awarded long before the outright TD - this would have ended the stalemate as the 3 points would have been awarded and MD wrestler could have abandoned his danger position. No idea what Ref was doing in never initiating Neutral Danger count despite MD wrestler repeatedly entering Neutral Danger, but no way that scramble should have been stalemated.

In not sure Bo had him beyond 90 for a consistent count. Borderline the whole time.

He had him beyond 90° multiple times and the Ref never even initiated the count a single time. You don't stalemate a situation where one wrestler is continually being put into Neutral Danger. You admit that Neutral Danger was crossed multiple times but aren't sure the 3-count was satisfied - not sure if full 3-count was met as the Ref never announced a single time that Neutral Danger had occurred (and started a count of any kind).

Relished to the match.
thought brooks was saying “look at the score” severL times I, going to re listen

Stein should've taken neutral or top in the 3rd period of a match that lasted 4:26. LOL.
Pardon me, 2nd period. Stein took down to start the second when neutral would have required feet to back to get the pin or top with optional start and release would have ended it with the CS escape.

Univ of MD wrestling recruiting pitch:

At Maryland, we won’t expect you to try for bonus points. In fact, we think going for a fall is unfair.
I actually think the MD coach told his two wrestlers that won to keep their matches to a decision thinking PSU should do the same. His one kid held Back when he could of scored . PSU went full throttle for bonuses because that is how you win in March. That is how you win the dominance awards. That is
How you get on Flo’s PFP top 20 🤣 and that other award that a Cael and Bo and Zain and Taylor has.

Are you serious? Besides the fact that no coach in history has ever thought that way - nor should they - there is direct evidence to contradict this if you watched the match.

Miller was noticeably pissed when he didn't get that final TD for bonus. Pierce did a hell of a job fighting that off twice.

Forgive me if I'm missing some joke you're trying to put out there.

That’s what I saw, too. The count should have at least been initiated. He may have only got a one count, but it still should have been started.

But I bet it felt like the third period to Stein.

Just because you don't like it or who it's coming from doesn't mean it's not true.

Brooks firmly in the lead

One of the most important elements of sportsmanship is not to be a sore LOSER.

Coaches are responsible for the "tone at the top". If we're going have laments about Starocci on Twitter, then what about the Twerp's HC whining and moaning at the very time he was supposed to be exhibiting sportsmanship by congratulating them for their excellent execution-not ambushing the opposing team's coach with a pathetic whine.

If he had something to say:

It should have been addressed to Cael.
It should have been done privately.
It should have been done outside the competitive arena,

The guy I really feel some compassion for is any wrestler who only receives a D1 offer from the Twerps.

You don't want your athlete beaten? Then forfeit the match.

What Carter did was bad form, and I would prefer if he showed more restraint posting. In no way do his posts affect his Hodge standing. My point was Carter is showing the world his abilities on the mat, and going for a pin against a kid way out of his depth is perfectly fine. To win the Hodge you 'should' take no prisoners. Him posting on social media about some other coach is unwise.
