I missed that one, but saw a couple
of Hokit's other matches. Yeah, he is small for the weight. Seems athletic enough to dominate a lot of guys, but I doubt he can do much with the big heavies that have talent to match.
He has one edge over them: very few heavies are used to someone taking the fight to them, anywhere near how he took the fight to Bo last year. Also very few heavies anywhere near as good as Bo.

The only thing I remember him fighting was Bo trying to help him up after wrenching his head off on the way to a pin

they are starting finals with..........141

I agree with this from bigs22 post above:

"Unfortunately, these types of things rarely get better. Our boards are bordering on a mutually assured destruction death spiral plunging us into never ending pissing contests with wrestling discussion as a mere pretense. Okay, that’s maybe a little dramatic, but that’s how things tend to go online... Gotta love the internet!"

I've said this before, but I think we need a thread for all of the Iowa and PSU fans that derive tremendous pleasure in snarky posts, to say whatever they want, and leave the rest of this board to the majority of PSU fans who just want to talk wrestling. There are a lot of great Iowa fans and a lot of great PSU fans who love wrestling far more than one-upping someone else's post.
OMG, here's an idea... We need a button on posts that say "wrong thread", or "Off topic", or some such thing. If enough people vote the post off it gets moved to the "Snarky" thread (or some other more politically correct name). [Edit: ...realizing that this post is off topic. ;)]

If I were a Hawk fan I wouldn't be overly enthused.

In the semis, Lugo was the only Iowa starter who faced a top-8 wrestler. All the others met wrestlers ranked somewhere 9-20 ... guys you would typically meet in the round of 16.

Maybe they have different expectations, but over the years we've gotten a lot bonus points in the R-16. I saw a lot of low scoring matches today.

While I understand your quip here, it does remind me of something I was thinking about yesterday . . .

When scrolling through those same listings to figure out what really important event BTN couldn't turn down in favor of Midlands, and coming up with nothing, I recalled my initial gut reaction to the news last year that Flo was going to be able to broadcast all BTN+ streams (i.e., "Here we go, first major step toward the inevitable monopoly"). Which got me conspiracy-theorizing yesterday that the reason BTN is not televising the Midlands finals is probably because of the business deal between Flo and BTN -- not because BTN actually has something better to show.

True, but I would put last year's Parris in that category (i.e., taking the fight to anyone), and he regularly got squashed by the big guys (at least in the 3rd period). That's kind of what I see for Hokit this season. I do think he is a legit AA threat, though.

Doing your best tHR poster impersonation.....last month Assad was a waste of a scholarship after a bad loss and Brands was the literal 3rd coming. Along the way neither of them has beaten $$$ and only now via a headlock Assad should lose his RS in a year they are favored going away to get the title.

that said if 184 is a flame out and PSU wins the title the 2nd guessers will be lit af on tHR.
The kid wrestles to score points. He tries offensive attacks. Tonight's match should be telling, but win or lose tonight I have liked what I have seen from the kid way more than anything from the other two.
If that makes me an HR impersonator-OK.

hopefully @wildlizard is paying attention and keeping a tally of all my good deeds

I love the last match for Abe Assad. Opened it up at the end.
At times he wrestles on his feet at the upper weights like a light guy. I dont know where he settles out with his weight but he will make an ncaa finals if not multiple.

Battles w AB could be epic
epic up to a point, of course

Maybe in years past, but probably not in the 2019-20 season. The PSU and Iowa projected line-ups (even assuming Rasheed and Cassar get healthy) probably don't have much difference in bonus point potential this season. In fact, some might reasonably argue that Iowa has more, due to the huge disparity at 125.

Gross is 83% of what he used to be

Hartman, Assad and Heil all on vision quests(cue Lunatic Fringe by Red Rider)

The way he wrestles, he needs the size advantage and he is giving it up this year to chase the Olympics. I’m never going to tell someone not to chase their dreams, but in this case it seems like both his NCAA and Olympic prospects are taking a slight hit as he plays the middle.

I'm sure Iowa fans don't want to hear it, but this is the weakest Midlands field in years, isn't it?

Not disagreeing, but as much as i enjoy throwing shade at HR for the quality of competition at Midlands, it is a lot easier when we go to the Scuffle instead of the Wilkes Open :(

Midlands quality isn't deep but it really doesn't take away from anything from how good Iowa has looked. And while they've not exactly been capital F fun to watch, they've not been boring. They're solid or better at every weight.

Challenge brick rejected in the 184 match?
[Edit: I thought Assad might have had a takedown, but Brands waited way too long to challenge IMHO.]
