Does anyone have the backstory on this? Did he wrestle-off for 157? Did he wrestle-off for 165? Has he ever matched up with O'Toole since they come from the same club?

You know when I see "MM" I seem to always run through a list of MMs in my head. The folks on the Guillotine (Gophers) referred to Mario Mason as MM. This forum referred to Morgan Mac as MM now it is The latest MM. Wonder why we seem to do this with MM names but not others?

I dunno but he’s outta shirts now so it looks like he’s our man. I think things clear up next year and amazingly enough no-one will lose a year. Cael knows his shit.

can't forget matt mccutcheon. my daughter is an MM as well

I haven't been very active on here for a bit, but I keep seeing people talk about Facundo as the 165 starter. Is there any reason for this? What am I missing? Mesenbrink has a way higher ceiling.

Messenbrink competed attached last weekend (and Alex didn't), so unless he's going to just burn a year of eligibility when he could have ORS, he's our 165 this year.

Where have you seen this? Been a foregone conclusion in most people's mind when MM was at media day with the rest of the starters and Alex wasn't. Alex didn't wrestle last weekend as well..so that pretty much seals the deal on who's going this year

Facundo's ORS just got announced, so I could have waited haha. Thanks for the info.

Valid questions that unfortunately went off the rails quickly. Mesenbrink and O'Toole are training partners at the Askren Wrestling Academy. Ben has (wisely) never mentioned who gets the better of who on any of his podcasts to my knowledge.

FWIW, I am a huge fan of Facundo sitting this year out. He was at 170 in his senior year of high school so making 165 probably was not getting any easier. Alex remains a high-ceiling prospect and I am excited to see him at 174 post-Starocci.

As for Mitchell at 165, he appeared undersized at Journeyman. Could just be me but Levi looked huge for a 157. Maybe Haines is remaining at 157 because it is a more feasible path to a championship. Just a thought.

I’d be curious if they even allowed Messenbrink and Haines wrestle-off for 157. A coach could simply say the spot was earned by being a finalist even though past results may favor Messenbrink. I’m sure that discussion would take place prior to the transfer.

Past results in Freestyle favored Mesenbrink.

Isn't that just another (albeit weird) way of saying that MM won the 165 spot - which shouldn't shock anyone - and, as a result, Alex is taking the ORS available to him?
Yes, you are correct. Your description would be a little smoother sip of whiskey.
But there are many possibilities.
165 was getting to be a tough cut and is focusing on 174 next year is another possibility.
Finding "something to do" was probably not how Alex would describe it.

Anyone see AFac or Mess winning 165 this year?
High likelihood that either guy would have to beat BOTH Carr and KOT at nats. Now thats a tall task.
Maybe Facundo is making the smarter move.

Now that Mess has declined his ORS, he wont be around to get one in ‘28, right?
