Jimmy goes down.....

Dang - He had him until the end. Giving up those back points was the killer.

Jimmy - Great turnaround in this tournament. Fun watching you back toward your form.

Gulibon vs. Seth Gross (S. Dakota St.)

Per 1
Jimmy gets a leg but Gross kicks fee. Jimmy shoots, blocked. He seems active! 1 min in. 2 min in. Not much in the last 1:30. Jimmy in on a head outside single at 32 sec, they scramble, and he's finally awarded the TD, 2-0 just before the buzzer, 2-0. (Got the TD at 9 sec.)

Per 2
Gross takes down. Gross to his base, and works to his feet, tripped down, and works back up. Jimmy has him dancing on 1 leg. Stall warning on Jimmy for staying on the lower leg. Gross up, and back to his knees. Gross with a whizzer, then to his feet, and taken back to his knees. 1 min left. On the edge with 30 sec left. Stall warning on Jimmy, so it's a stoppage and 1 point to Gross, 2-1. Gross out at 19 sec, so it's 2-2. End. RT at 1:49 for Jimmy

Per 3
Jimmy takes down. Jimmy gets a rev in 5 sec, 4-2. Gross comes back and gets a reversal, 4-4. OOB at 1:38. Gross shoots, nothing. RT at 1:54 for Jimmy. Jimmy is in but Gross has an ankle, Gross comes behind, then Jimmy on top, still scrambling, then Gross gets the TD and has Jimmy tilted. Gross rides him out. It ends 6-10, and Jimmy is done. Tough loss, as he looked good until the scramble in the last minute of the match.

No words...He's a small 41 wonder if he goes back down to 33 next year. He needs to figure it out with the confidence also.

Jimmy is so impatient at times. Instead of being patient when he has the leg he rolls and turns (usually the wrong way) and he basically gives the other guy the TD. Jimmy is not a scrambler. He needs to look to finish strong instead of getting low singles. Low singles are where guys can grab his ankles and funk out of it, which is bad for him because he's not good at it. Blast doubles and singles to a high crotch should be what he works on. And when he does get in on a low single and the guy drapes over him and grabs his ankle he needs slow it down instead of just starting to turn or roll, because he turned the wrong way at the end there for no reason and ended up giving up the TD.

Yikes. Thought JG had momentum and then looked to get out scrambled each opportunity. Disappointing - but tempered expectations going into tourney and overall a positive for the Lions.

Jimmy fought hard. Tough luck there. My hat's off to him.
Devastating loss for Jimmy... Going to hurt for a long time.

Announcer called the gross victory over jimmy an upset.?? You can hear how they relish any psu loss

Way too many challenges in this tournament. It really takes away from the action and makes things boring. There are some that are just obvious "time outs" for gassed wrestlers. There should be some sort of penalty for a coach that challenges and loses. Maybe a stall warning to the wrestler or some kind of limit on challenges where if you win the challenge you keep it but if you lose the challenge you lose the ability for future challenges.

Geno Morelli vs. #14 seed David McFadden (VT)

Per 1
Lots of ear-to-ear early on. Stoppage at 2:06 for blood time for Morelli. Morelli shoots of the whistle, nothing. Geno shoots again, nothing. McF with the underhook defense. Stalemate at 1:34. McF in on the right leg, whizzer by Morelli, then Geno comes out from behind and gets the TD as they go OOB at 53, 2-0. Dresser challenging for VT, so we're going to video review. It was close to a TD for McFadden, so at worst it will be 2-2. Call stands, so it's 2-0, Morelli. Restart at 53 sec. McF tries to roll, Geno stays with him. McF on 4-points, and they roll OOB at 29 sec. Caution on someone. Sitout and crab ride. Morelli has boots in, McF tries to step over it. and the period ends. Dresser doesn't like that McFadden doesn't get a rev. 55 sec of RT.

Per 2
Morelli takes down. Up to his base. Morelli tries a roll on the edge, and gets stuck, and 4 NF for McFadden, 2-4. RT now eliminated, and going up for McF. OOb at 50 sec. Caution on Morelli. Morelli working up, turns into McF, but gives driven down on the edge. OOB with 27 sec. Morelli nearly gets out but flattened at the edge. Rideout. 1:04 of RT for McFadden

Per 3
McFadden takes down. Quickly in a crab ride. McF grabs the ankle, but loses it. Stalemate at 1:41. RT down to 44 sec for McF. Morelli falls over the top of him so McF gets the esc, 2-5. Morelli in on a leg, McFadden sprawls and tries to counter. Now McF with the leg and gets behind with 53 sec left, 2-7. OOB at 51 sec. Caution on McF. Morelli tries a roll and gets stuck again, and McF gets 4 NF, 2-11. He's out at 24 sec, 3-11. RT at 1:09 for McF. McF in on a leg and gets the TD at the edge, 3-13. With RT it's a 14-3 loss for Morelli.

Not sure what he was thinking with his rolls. Both worked for McFadden, but not for Morelli.

So PSU goes 0-2 in the R3 consolations. Disappointing.

McCutcheon, Gulibon, and Morelli are now out of the tournament.

Gulibon wrestles hard, but if it's a scramble, the other guy pretty much always comes out on top.

That was such a typical Gulibon match. He often does enough to win, but makes a mistake at the end to lose it. In this case, the scramble that led to the TD and back points for Gross. He also made a bonehead decision in the 2nd period to get the 2nd stall warning, then immediately allows the escape as well. Should have just cut the guy, saving a point.

anyone have the latest score update?

Consolation R3 is still going on, so this isn't final, but here ya go:

PSU - 68.5
Ohio St. - 54
Iowa - 48.5
Okla. St. - 46
Mizzou - 42.5
Nebraska - 34.5
NC State - 32.5
Michigan - 32
VT - 30.5
Cornell - 28
blah, blah, blah

Okla. St. and Nebraska have highest scoring potential, as they have 5 and 6 in Consolation R4, respectively, at this point.

PSU still in the driver's seat, but they have to take care of business in their 5 semifinal matches tonight.

If Conaway wins his match and OSU loses 2 of 5 blood round matches, I will feel a little better. I guess I have to root for Meyer.

I thought that challenges were severely limited in the tournament. e.g. PSU only gets 3 unsuccessful challenges. At least that is what JB keeps saying.

WatchESPN has 7:30PM "Off the Mat" evaluation online, with Gable and other legends.

They will be evaluating the tournament so far.
