Olympic Trials Day 1 thread

A US wrestler has to qualify in int'l tourney opportunities - otherwise no US wrestler will be in the olympics at that weight. Some weights we've already accomplshed that - a cpl others, not. There's 2 more tourneys to make that happen before olympics (I believe)
Okay. Thanks Loco. I don't follow FS much at all. Starting to now though....

They mean THE US has not placed high enough in a qualifying world tourney at this weight to qualify a wrestler for the olympics yet. There a two tourneys left before games yet. Whoever wins the weight will have to place high enough, I think one is top 3 and the other is top 2 (forgive me on details here) in either tourney in order to wrestle in the games. I think there is still another unqualified weight as well? Someone fill in the blanks but I think I have the basics down.

86kg is also not qualified at this time. Plus some Greco and Women's weights. All tolled there are only 9 of the 18 weights that will be contested this weekend that are currently qualified.

Seriously, spyker. For all the time you spend inside the wrestling room during practices and corresponding with Cael (not to mention discussing spring practice performance with the core members of the football team), you'd think that some wrestling knowledge would come to you merely by osmosis.
Lol...After i posted i then knew the answer to my own question. Was caught up watching a match. But i really just started to follow FS last year...Thanks bro....lmao....

Spyker - you obviously are a good dude. True blue baby.

I'm beginning to realize why all these guys trust you enough to confide in you.

Tank - Stieber

1-1 after 1st period

2nd: Steiber with a nice TD, 1-3. Tank with a blast double for the TD, and 2 back points, 5-3. 1:20 left. Crazy scramble, finally the whistle at 45 sec left. Logie with a TD and OOB with 24 sec left, 5-5. OOB with 8 sec. Tank locks an ankle, and wins on criteria!!!!!!! He's having quite a run.

The Tank has got some serious grit.

While watching the match, one thing that stood out to me was all the tOSU fans in that background that were on their feet after the Stieber TD that decided to wear Black and Gold to the arena today.

You got to love the haircut on ex RU wrestling coach Frank the tank Molinaro ! lol. Beating Russel, Matter and Steiber, wow ! How many AA's among these guys ? NCAA National Championship s?

Frank will wrestle Pico tonight. I'm not sure if Frank has ever beat Pico. Pico has looked really tough this tournament also having to come back to beat Ness and JO.

Pico defeats Humphrey 12-1, so it will be Tank vs. Pico in the final.

Pico has looked great today. Tank will have to bring his A game.

Frank beat him before and Pico won the rematch in the consi's a year or so ago...

I am thinking the same thing Dunk. Pico has looked better than Frank today.

Frank and Pico were 1-1 at the last tournament they competed in together. Frank won on the top side, Pico in the 3/4 match.

I'm not counting Frank out, but Pico has looked like he's on another level today. It anyone can beat him it will be Frank because of his defense. Very hard for guys to get through his hands to get to his legs. Should be a barn burner!

Who is responsible for the country music playing in the background while these guys wrestle?

Zain - Chamberlain

Per 1:
Chamberlain reaches, nothing. Chamberlain in on an ankle, has Zain dancing, and just gets the TD, 0-2. 1:50 left. Zain with a nice TD, and goes for the bow and arrow to tilt. Not sure how Zain got another point, but it's 3-2. Oh, they award Zain 2 back, so it's 5-2. 1 min left. Zain with a pushout, 6-2. 14 sec left.

Per 2:
Zain nearly with a TD, but they are neutral at 2:30. Not sure what Chamberlain's gameplan is, but he's not really shooting. 1:15 left. I think they put somebody on the clock -- not sure which wrestler. Must have been Chamberlain, as Zain was awarded a point after 30 sec, 7-2. 30 sec left. And that's how it ends, 7-2

Ness is gives goofers nation something to warm their cold souls with.

Don't have to worry about the world ending now.

Metcalf going 0-2 .....I hurt for him. Kid is a warrior and will make a great coach.

For wrestling sake I hope he comes east but he probably stays in IC I would guess.

There's talk about Metcalf going to Michigan State as assistant coach. That would be great for Michigan State!
