Football Penn State QB Sean Clifford set to return for 2022 season

It also could be a sign that players will start announcing their intentions so we know what is happening. Silly season is so much fun.

Well, him returning means we won't have to get a QB in the portal for depth. But... I was really hoping to see what the youngsters could do, whether Veilleux or the incoming freshmen. I hope it is a true open competition in the spring but am skeptical.

Edit: Not surprised he mentioned being able to play with his brother on the field. Surely that impacted this decision for Clifford.

That should be a nice bridge for the younger guys. Hopefully the two QBs who will b competing in 2023 will see more play time next year to season them for the starter competition.
Does Velluuex stay @ PSU or portal. Clifford coming back does not benefit him.

Good for him. How quickly we forgot 11-2 cotton bowl season under Cliff. He needs a OL/ run game. Look at McNamara heading to CFP. Think that kid is better than Cliff? This is Franklin and MY's mess to clean up, not Sean. Vellleuix and Allar will need one more year and given injuries will probably play next year.

The difference now is that Penn State will enter the 22 season with 4 quarterbacks who can play. Penn State entered Iowa City with 1.

This is great news and I hate Franklin. Sean played his ass off this year and he will get better next year. I still want a portal transfer but this bails Franklin out because that is the ONLY way this program advances...despite Franklin rather than because of him.

^^^^ 100% agree. I think James Franklin is very confused about how to fix Penn State Football. I think Clifford coming back is a way for Franklin to box in his Win-Loss record to be 3-4 Losses next year. As one Big Ten Coach said before the 2021 season started...."lets see if 2020 was the exception, or the wheels did fall off for James Franklin's program".

You have to think Clifford is locked in as the starter. I've seen rumblings that Pribula might be moved to a Safety, but those are probably just rumors taken out of context.

Nevertheless, you have to think Roberson & Veilleux are both toast. Veilleux showed what he could do earlier this year and a smaller/mid-tier team could probably use his talents.

It will at least be nice for Allar to have a mentor for a year and learn the ropes, being primed for the 2023 sreason. Who is the 3rd strong though? Pribula right now, but if he does switch positions, who would it be?

CV isn’t going to portal because he had one good game vs Rutgers. All the young guys know the job is wide open in. 2023 and they will all stay til then.
it will be so nice to have a backup with game experience

I don't see how anyone can look at it any other way than it is great to have choices. I get concerned that CJF is too loyal but that is a happy problem. We also have two great prospects coming in as well as two great kids on the bench. Learning from a guy who has been playing college ball for 3+ seasons has to be a great learning opportunity.

Fantastic news! Now Allar can redshirt, get a full season learning under Yurcich and come out fully prepared for the following season. No disrespect to CV, but make no mistake, Allar is the QB of the future and Clifford coming back next year sets him up for success much better than the alternative.

WE ARE!!!

Not to ruffle any feathers but people are actually claiming CV is ready to hit the portal now?? This is the same football player that has played a total of 3 quarters of football in the past 3 years and it was against a bad Rutgers team and now he’s going to be feel he should be playing more and thus needs to transfer? Maybe he knows Cliff is injury prone and he will play in 2022. Maybe he does hit the portal, who knows, but let’s not pretend he’s a proven player off 3 quarters against Rutgers. He can have a shot to win the job in 2023 just like the other 2 qb’s.

Roberson…well that’s another story.

In a perfect world... but Allar enrolling early (presuming all goes as planned) suggests he wants to play at least a little in the Fall... and a talent like that is unlikely to stick around for 4 years. I expect he'll play, get his feet wet and be ready for '23 with 3 years left. Thast's my guess.

Apparently the coaching staff doesnt take advice from Giger. Shocking.

Also, Giger takes his usual cheap shot by referring to Clifford's passer rating during a season in which he played six games while injured. Of course, he also didnt provide any names of those "numerous better QBs in the portal".

Now Giger can go back to tweeting about his 8 year old son's pee wee league stats.

Corey Gieger is such an ass. He took his shot at Penn State when he tried to be Sarah Ganim and he flopped. Now he has to spew hate. What a ****tard.
EXACTLY!!

He thought that the Sandusky scandal was his ticket out of that backwater sh*t hole Altoona. Just go on espn every day and be a whore for their anti-Paterno crusade. Simple as that. Cant miss. Oops.

4? Maybe two. Just because kids has recruiting accolades doesn’t mean they are ready to play as a true freshmen

See coaching in Clifford's future, do grad assistants get paid on their way to coaching careers. Saw Jo Mo just hired a former QB.

Your statement about Altoona is disrespectful to those of us that live here. It is also totally off base to lump Neil Rudel in with the other three idiots you mentioned. Ok
Is there another program that has to deal with beat reporters such as Giger, Rudel, Jones, and Flounders who despise the team they cover? I dont follow other programs, so thats a serious question.

Pribula right now could have played better than Roberson did in Iowa city.
You know that how? How many college practices and games has he been in? For all we know maybe he couldn’t even start at IUP.
