Some observations from today:
125 - not a great weight. Matty Parker looks to be bigger than he was and is getting broad in the chest like his brother. tOSU has a hole here until Tomasello competes, Mead was not impressive - should not be dropping a match to a D2 wrestler who has done well to improve in college but should not be beating a starter from a top D1 school. Lopez is small, Parker was noticeably bigger and stronger and I wouldn't consider Matty to be a monster size 125 yet.
133 - some solid kids here - Pletcher notes above. Paetzal is much bigger than the last time I saw him and I don't think there is anyway he ever sees 125 again.
141 - some nice young talent here. Moran is bigger, Hoffman is way, way bigger (can't believe he was a 132 last year in HS). The Heberlein kid from Binghamton is a tough kid but needs to get stronger like most freshman. Shie from Ohio has talent. The winner Pomrinca from Lehigh is a tough wrestler who would be starting at a lot of D1 schools. D'Arcy from Princeton wrestled 125 for them last year and he did not look small at 141.
149 - not a deep weight. Hayes was untested until the final and controlled action early but Bannister won the 3rd. Bannister is lightning quick and very strong, but doesn't do much.
157 - Micah has a nice frame but still looks a little thin for 157 this year. I talked about Berge before. He is a great prospect, but he is not a 157 at least this year. I stood next to him and I would guess he is about 5'6". Not thin, but not developed like a man yet. TBH, my first impression of him was that he looked like a nice size 141, lol. He can't be cutting any weight at all at this time to wrestle 157. He is very skilled in neutral, just needs a lot more horsepower to wrestle 157, but you can see his wrestling IQ is off the charts. More than serviceable at this time on the mat. We PSU fans are spoiled with guys like Mark Hall coming in and instantly being able to compete with men. Berge looks like he needs a year to get stronger. I hesitate to say this, because it really didn't limit his effectiveness, but he also looked like he was sucking air halfway through his matches. Probably a case of being worn out by horsepower. His last match was against John Pipa who most here from PA on familiar with and IMO it wouldn't be surprising if Pipa ended up 2 weight classes above Berge when all is said and done, just by their frame sizes.
165 - Campbell sailed through a very weak weight class. Campbell is built like a brick shit house with a tiny waist.
174 - Jordan won another shallow weight class, but gave the crowd a jolt of enthusiasm when the Rider kid 4 pointed him with under a minute to go to go ahead 8-7 (Jordan had a little over a minute of riding time at this point). Bo scrambled into a reversal shortly after and held on for the win. Did not look quite as big as he does on TV, big for a 174, but did not look sucked out.
184 - Myles Martin is really, really good lol. Deprez made him work for every point in the final and will be a force next year after a RS.
197 - I mentioned before - and PBS confirmed - that Pat Brucki is ridiculously built for an 18 year old kid. Looked more like a rsSR than Bo Jordan. Very quick and powerful in neutral, will have an impact this year if he can improve on the bottom. Doyle (trFR) from Binghamton (and from CRS!!!!) got hammered in neutral in the first by him, but then rode the snot out of him in the second and took the starch out of him. Brucki also hammered Kyle Gentile on his feet in his opening match.
Did not watch any 285s but did notice that whoever the Rider kid is ginormous. Kid should have been an NFL lineman with his frame.
