PSU - Minny Dual Thread

keep in mind that Krone is not the usual starter. I wouldn't make any decision about PSU's starter based on tonight's match

Watching on BTN, I believe I heard either Gibbons or Johnson say he's a 174 pounder wrestling up.

Had to coach tonight. Glad to hear things went up to par.

Not that it matters, and I think Shak should be the starter, but pinning Brandon Krone who should probably be a 165lber is not a "This is why he should be the starter" result lol.

You are correct that pinning Krone does not justify him being the starter. But coming out aggressively and finishing things off so quickly does. No question Cassar beats Krone but it probably would have been 4-2 heading into the second period instead of Shak getting his hand raise already.

Didn't Rasheed cert at 174 this fall?

I guess we could say he's our back-up 174/184 wrestling up.

Minny was actually better than I thought.

I am not usually a big complain about the ref guy. For the most part, I think if you do your job you won't leave it up to the ref to decide a close match.

That said, how in the He** wasn't Short DQ'd for stalling?!?!? That was absolutely disgusting to watch and you could see how frustrated Nolf was after the match. What was that ref watching?

I was a little more disgusted with Nolf having Short looking at the lights and the ref not being able to count backs while running in a circle to get into position.

That situation and Cenzo gets stalled for retreating off the mat (which I thought was correct) while not hitting the Minnesota kid with the same call earlier.

Don't know the answer to that. What I do remember is hearing one of the announcers during the last couple weeks mention that he'd weighed in at 192 for whichever dual (UM, Purdue) they were working.

Not disagreeing with the DQ part, in fact posted similar opinion in a different thread. The frustrating look from Jason was that the coaches didn't ask for a "review for 2" back points...pretty sure.

Short's in deep doo-doo at Big Ten's and NCAA's, where more refs push the wrestlers to wrestle. What I saw last evening wasn't wrestling.

Two things about Nickal last night.

That first re-shot ankle pick was fast and vicious. Not that we haven't seen it before, but that one, I think, was the best one yet. Second, Anderson tried that duck-under, which Bo stuck cold. Then, it was as if he said, "Here, let me show you how that's done," coming back with the exact same move, which, of course, Bo hit with perfection.

Did anyone happen to notice the interaction between Cassar and Rasheed when they came back to the huddle, after shaking hands? It appeared to me that they either feigned a game of "paper, scissors, rock," or they gave each other a friendly "whoever goes, goes" handshake.
