PSU - Northwestern Dual Thread

184:
Bo Nickal vs. Mitch Sliga

Per 1:
Sliga is NW's only ranked guy. Bo gets a low single, has Sliga bouncing, Bo drags him toward the center, still dancing, and Bo throws him off the mat after they go OOB. Sliga in on a head outside single, Bo scrambles and has Sliga's right ankle, and converts it to a TD, 2-0. Sliga being pretty cautious. BO cuts him at under 1 min, 2-1. Sliga shoots in, Bo with a throw but Sliga rolls thru, nothing. Bo reaches for a ankle, nothing. End. Bo has 46 sec in RT

Per 2:
Sliga takes bottom. Caution on Bo (put his head in a wrong position). Bo nearly gets a tilt, nothing. RT now over 1 min. Sliga starts to work up, Bo maintains control. 1 min left. Not much. Now 30 sec left. Bo went for a cradle, nothing. 15 sec left. End. 2:46 in RT for BO

Per 3:
Bo takes down. He's up quickly, and out in 5 sec, 3-1. Sliga with a shot, Bo sprawls, and a stalemate at 1:26 left. Bo reaches for a ankle, nothing. Sliga in on a low single, but PD stoppage with 1:14. Collar ties. Sliga shoots but misses. 45 sec left. Sliga in on a single, and Bo locks a cradle and gets swipes. He gets 4 NF, and RT, so it's a 10-1. Nearly got the cradle.

PSU - 39, NW - 3

Byers saying Cutch has been showing a variety of attacks with flurries of shots all season. Ok.

197:
Cutch vs. Jacob Berkowitz

Per 1:
Cutch in on a single, gets behind, but Berkowitz kicks out. Hard to believe he didn't get that TD. OOB with 1:19 left. Cutch with a headlock and sort of throws Berkowitz by for the TD, 2-0. Berkowitz is flat, and not doing a thing. Cutch working a bow and arrow, but a stalemate at 11 sec. Berkowitz up, then down, Berkowitz rolls just before the buzzer, and nearly got out. End. RT at 1:06

Per 2:
Cutch takes bottom. He's up and then out in 13 sec, 3-0. Cutch drops down to an ankle, trying to pop his head free, and he gets the TD at the edge, 5-0. Then OOB with 55 sec. Berk starts to stand, and he's out at 48 sec. RT at 1:05. 5-1. Cutch in deep, Berk does a split at the edge, and the buzzer sounds before Cutch can get anything. Rt at 1:05

Per 3:
Berkowitz takes down. He's out in 9 sec, 5-2. Stalemate at 1:21 left. Cutch in on a single and gets behind for the TD, 7-2. Cutch looked for a cradle but lost it, and then Berkowitz gets free, 7-3. Cutch in on a low single, now Berkowitz scrambles and tries to step over. Stalemate with 18 sec. Now blood time for Cutch. Cutch gets a TD with 2 sec left, and with RT it's a 10-3 win.

PSU - 42, NW - 3

Another strong effort from McCutcheon at 197, handing Berkowitz his seventh loss of the season. Cutch wins 10-3 (1:37 RT) to give PSU a 42-3 lead with only one left

Anyone see Hughes MSU choose top in a 0-0 match? Rode the kid out for 1-0 win.

Nick Nevills vs. Collin Jennings

Per 1:
Nevills reaches, nothing. Jennings with a headlock, nothing. Nevills tries an outside trip, nothing. Nevills drops down for a leg, nothing. Pretty active 1st minute, though no scoring. Nevills with a head inside single, but Jennings sprawls, now Nevills working up, and a stalemate at 1:04. Nevills in on a single as a stall warning on Jennings, but nothing comes of the single. End

Per 2:
Jennings takes down. Nevills doing a lot of two-on-ones, but can't turn Jennings. RT now over 1 min, and Jennings is flat. Nevills to the right side and really working the right arm. 30 sec left. Nevills traps the right arm on the back, but can't tilt him. It's a rideout. RT at 2 min

Per 3:
Nevills takes bottom. Nevills to his feet, tripped down but he's working for a reversal, and he gets it at 1:22, 2-0. RT still over 1 min. Nevills again on the right side, and working the right arm. Then he cuts Jennings, 2-1 with under 1 min left. Nevills in on the right leg, and he gets the TD, 4-1. He cuts him with 20 sec, 4-2. Jennings with a late TD and tries to lock up a cradle. The buzzer sounds with now swipes. 2:07 in RT gives Nevills the 5-4 win. NW coach wants a video review. No change after the review.

PSU - 45, NW - 3

The entire Vollrath family is out on the mat and gets their picture taken with Caleb. Jim's dad is a wrestling ref, so he spends a good bit of time on the mat.

Just a complete joke that the Official only called one Stalling on Jennings that entire match. Jennings made zero offensive attacks and did absolutely nothing on bottom as Nick generated almost 3 minutes of RT (Nick got caught on a counter at the very end - a cradle while they had each others legs). But an absolute joke that the Official saw fit to only call one Stalling midway through the 1st Period and then swallowed his whistle.

Nevills dicking around at the end instead of working a decent pinning combination. Not sure what he's doing with that "arm pull" but there's no leverage at all. Why doesn't he at least throw a wing and a bar in and run the hell out of it? Throw in a bar and half, it's confusing what he's trying to accomplish on top.....and he had beau coups pins in high school? I do like him a lot by the way...just want to see him be more dominant.

Got to love Caleb's post match interview - Zain you got to show me that pinning combination!
Byers asked him about that move, and Livingston said: Zain taught me that about 2 weeks ago. He pinned me with it 5 times in one practice, so I asked him to show it to me.

Bo Jordan won't listen to that interview -- way too much fun.

Nevills got real sloppy at the end of his match. There really was no point in cutting the guy with 15 seconds left in the match, as he only led 4-1 (plus the RT point) and there wasn't anywhere near enough time to get a major. Then he allows himself to get cradled and had to fight hard to avoid losing the match.

Byers blew the call too. He had just said something like, "And Jennings is done, you can just see it" and then a couple seconds later Jennings hooks up the cradle, gets a TD and comes way too close to getting back points.

I think I could hear the coaches yelling for Nick to let him up and try to get one more TD. Nothing wrong with doing that in a meaningless dual. Just another opportunity to learn.

No chance the coaches do that come Big Ten and NCAA time.

In fairness to Byers, Jennings looked like he had quit. I suspect he would've stayed quit if Nick hadn't given him that opportunity.

Yep. that's either a 3-0 or 5-1 win in March. Same thing happened against Vollaro (another fatty)

OK, that explains why Nevills cut Jennings. But the execution was still sloppy and Nevills almost gave the match away.

Nevills needs to turn an inferior opponent such as this guy.

Jennings is huge and didn't try to do much from bottom. No easy task to turn a guy like that.

Agree.

Throw a bar and half when he's lying flat and drive the ear on a 45 angle toward the bleachers...he'll do something.

PD3 missed today's dual with OSU, where he would've faced Nolan Boyd. No Hodge thread so I'll just leave this here.

That might be the understatement of the century! That the Official whistled Jennings for Stalling in the 1st Period and then swallowed his whistle for the remainder of the match despite Jennings doing absolutely nothing from bottom was BS imho. Very BS and was frustrating to Nick (i.e., that Jennings was not made to wrestle and was permitted to just hang out doing absolutely nothing despite being dominated the entire match) - that frustration almost cost Nick.....big time!

I think this was a classic sandwich meet. In between the huge individual match ups at 65 & HW of Wisconsin and the big meet of tOSU. Northwestern was throwing pretty much no one out there. A little drop off is performance was absolutely to be expected.

I really didn't see much drop off. Okay, Nickal showed he is human, needing the full 7 minutes and winning "only" by nine points. Nevills was in complete control but got greedy/careless in the last 10 seconds. You may be over-thinking it.

To me, Bo looked like he did his Ed Ruth impersonation.

Bo had one thing on his mind the entire match - locking up that cradle.

Hard to get 6-8 TDs when you're looking for a cradle for all 7 mins.

Win 45-3, and people are saying "Bo was off" and "Nevills was sloppy"

No one mentioning Suriano's pin - his 2nd. Caleb with a match he'll always remember. McCutcheon stays steady.

I'd hate to read this forum if we only win 16-15 one day. Lol
