PSU vs tOSU

So, here's a question about Saturday night. With Nolf out vs tOSU, do our remaining 4 National Champs really go for broke trying to get even more bonus points? Do they take a few extra risks looking for the big move? If so, does this make them more vulnerable to a big counter move?

What do people think? Curious to hear.

WE ARE!!!

I feel like Zain and Bo just always try for pins (Jason too, of course). They aren't going to change one way or another. Does Nevills try a jr high headlock? That'd be sweet.

I wonder if the staff is entertaining the idea of bumping Zain to 157 and having Pipher go 149 on the theory that Zain could maul either Hayes or Micah but Pipher might have an easier time with Hayes.

Nerf, is your pic a Zain Pez dispenser? I keep looking and can't figure it out....like it though!

Here goes nothing

125 - NATO by fall (He knows what's needed - could be TF) 6-0 tOSU
133 - Pletcher by decision (Major is possible) 9-0 tOSU
141 - Lee by decision (Toss-Up, but, I really like Lee's chances) 9-3 tOSU
149 - Zain by fall (Could be TF) 9-9 TIE
157 - Jordan by major (Could be TF or Fall) 13-9 tOSU
165 - Joseph by TF (Could be Major or Fall) 14-13 PSU
174 - Hall by decision (Definitely a toss-up) 17-13 PSU
184 - Nickal by decision (Could go other way, could be bonus) 20-13 PSU
197 - Moore by decision (Rasheed is dangerous) 20-16 PSU
285 - Snyder by major (Could be TF) 20-20 TIE

PSU wins on criteria with the pin by Zain.

My predictions are outside of the parenthesis. What is inside shows how many different directions this could go. That is what makes this such a great dual. I can't wait to see it unfold. Hopefully, the home crowd will allow some of the momentum tilts to go in our direction.

Except in your 20-20 score scenario you have NATO w/fall also.
So what's next, TF's?
if so, Joseph gets the criteria. Works either way

Oops. I can't remember if the next criteria is NF points or TD's, but, let us just assume that PSU had more of each. We win. :)

Number of TFs isn't in the criteria any more. After most falls, forfeits, etc. next criteria would be total points scored in all of the matches that did not end in a fall.

Why are so many people so high on Pletcher against Keener, particularly mentioning MD.

There is nothing in either wrestler's history to suggest Pletcher can major Keener:

  • Last time they met, it was a 5-4 Pletcher decision.
  • Pletcher's career bonus rate is 21.43%.
  • This year, Pletcher's bonus rate is 19.05%.
  • Pletcher has ONE career bonus win against anyone ranked better than 100 by Wrestlestat.
  • The vast majority of his bonus wins have been against guys ranked >200 by Wrestlestat.
  • This year's bonuses have come against 161, 244, 156 and 251.
  • All of his wins against guys ranked better than 25 have been 1-3 point wins.
  • Keener has 1 bonus point loss this season to Micic.
I can see a Pletcher win, but I just don't don't see Keener giving up bonus to this kid.

You are probably right and that is some great data. I guess I'm just concerned if Keener loses the momentum. There have been times where he seemed to lose confidence. I don't think it is out of the question for Keener to win this one, especially if he gets off to a good start and gains confidence.

New tiebreaker rules (this season and 2018-19). These have changed every two years for the past several cycles...

a. Greater number of victories.
Note: Forfeits, defaults and disqualifications count toward total number of victories.
b. Combined total number of falls, forfeits, defaults and disqualifications.
c. Total match points scored only from decisions, major decisions and
technical falls.
d. Total near fall points scored only from decisions, major decisions and
technical falls. (Example: N-2 + N-2 + N-4 = Total of 8 near fall points
scored for one team.)
e. Total number of takedowns scored only from decisions, major decisions
and technical falls. (Example: T-2 + T-2 + T-2 = Total of 3 takedowns
scored for one team.)
f. Least number of unsportsmanlike conduct calls.
g. First takedown scored in the dual meet.

is there an explicit rule that says a wrestler can only wrestle once per dual meet? i know there's that time between matches rule, which i think is 2 hours. but if the match starts at, say, 157 pounds could the 149 wrestle up a weight then again at 149 if the dual meet runs long, like if the power goes out or something?

Because casual fans love to make “gut predictions” without ever doing any solid historical research. It’s lazy.

I saw a lot of Snyder's matches in high school and found him to be humble and a class act. I now see that after 4 years at tOSU he has evolved into another PD3!
Snyder is going to take 33 credits and transfer to Iowa?

I still think Snyder is a class act. I don't care for a lot of smack talk and big shows of attitude, but I didn't find Snyder's tweet offensive. He's a competitor. Our guys feel the same way I'm sure. Sure looking forward to it!

I agree about Snyder, and I'm sure PSU'S guys do feel the same way, but they don't feel the need to tweet it. I like that. That's a reflection of the leadership from the top.

C'mon, nothing disrespectful there, just sharing from the heart. I do like that our guys, following the leadership of their coach, tend to shy away from in-season social media, but that approach is commonly seen as arcane nowadays, when everything is on message, and building the brand. I wouldn't be shocked at all if this tweet, Tom's "Not how I'd do it", and Steiber's a few weeks back on the same topic all came from Tan Tom and/or his marketing folks.

Kyle Snyder is an awesome ambassador for our sport. Which isn't to say I'm not praying for Nick to Gadsen the guy on Tuesday, but he's still the man, IMO.

For those going to the match, PSU released another traffic & parking warning for this weekend. Lots of stuff, much of it sports-related, going on...

I really hope Snyder's tweet lights an extra fire in the team's belly (especially Nevill's) and they come out ready to rock and roll and defend their home mat and turf. Practically no one is picking Penn State to pull off this win (given the loss of Nolf), and hopefully that provides some extra incentive.

Does anyone think the Rec Hall crowd will turn out to be a nice advantage? Could it possibly turn the toss up match ups in our favor? Maybe pull off a little upset(Keener or Shraken)? To give PSU the dual win with the help of the crowd.

If so Cael is a genius and should tweet back at Ryan.

If Kuhn debuts and Keener keeps it close, then maybe Lee can get the real momentum going heading into Zain's match. That would get the crowd involved and perhaps make a difference in later matches if the dual is close.

So tweeting in the middle of a tournament who is going to get the fastest pin is what Cael teaches?

Ugh .... Just realized there is the Iowa vs PSU basketball game at 6 on btn Saturday night.

I’m 100% that game will go to double effing overtime.
Maybe someone with connections can get them to agree in advance to switch over to the wrestling in proper time, especially if the outcome of the BB game is decided. Anyone with BTN connections who can convince the powers-that-be in advance that this dual needs to be shown from start to finish? There are going to be a lot of frustrated and angry viewers if we miss the first match or two or three, as happened earlier this year.

Dual should be on BTN2GO if the bball game runs over, which it almost certainly will.

You just compared Kyle Snyder to pd3 think about that for a second. Lol

I've heard several podcasts speculate with a fair degree of confidence that the meet will start at 197. Makes no sense to me. Don't know why Cael would agree to start at a weight where that could put PSU in a significant hole heading into 141.
