PSU vs tOSU

I've heard several podcasts speculate with a fair degree of confidence that the meet will start at 197. Makes no sense to me. Don't know why Cael would agree to start at a weight where that could put PSU in a significant hole heading into 141.

That would definitely qualify as fake news as the order isn't even decided on until after weigh-ins. See rules text below. Plus Cael has stated many times he prefers to start at 125 so I don't see him agreeing to start at 197.

Section 8. Determining Wrestling Order Dual Meets

Art. 1. Protocol. Immediately after the weigh-in for a dual meet or multiple dual meets conducted on the same day, coaches may mutually agree to determine the starting weight class for the match(es). If coaches cannot agree on the starting weight class, a random draw shall be conducted to determine which weight class will be wrestled first. Once the first weight class is established, either by agreement or random draw, subsequent matches will continue in the traditional sequence of increasing weight class order.

I saw a lot of Snyder's matches in high school and found him to be humble and a class act. I now see that after 4 years at tOSU he has evolved into another PD3!

Ludicrous. Comparing Snyder to PD3 is asinine. PD3 has a felony assault charge and posted revenge porn on the internet. Snyder won Yarygin and talked a little smack.

Ridiculous.

And, as I understand, at least in the past, if either coach wants to start at 125, it has to start at 125. The draw for starting weight class is only if both coaches are willing to change the starting weight, but can't agree on which weight. Is that still the way it works?

Flying out of Chicago at 7 am tomorrow for this. Really looking forward to it. Any prematch gatherings taking place? Letterman's??

No, doesn't work that way. They either agree on the starting weight or they draw. It may have before but I did not save the old rules. If Roar sees this he will probably "weigh" in. :D

Interesting stuff, all this time i thought the rule was coaches agree on starting weight. if not it starts at 125. Learn something new everyday

In the HR Aaron Brooks thread, I posted I llive iFrederick Maryland (south of Gettysburg) and we have tons of PSU fans in Frederick and Washington (Hagerstown) County. While shopping in Wegmans this morning, one of the associates gave me a "We Are! Beat Ohio State" We talked the match for a while...

NoVa's right. I can go back further, though below is the rule from 2009. Same as today, though written in less-clear language back then..

1.6 Determining Wrestling Order
Immediately after the weigh-in for a dual meet or multiple dual meets
conducted on the same day, coaches may mutually agree to determine the
order of matches to be wrestled, allowing for a particular weight class to be
featured. Once the first weight class is established, subsequent matches will
continue in the traditional sequence of increasing weight class.
If coaches cannot agree on the wrestling order, a random draw shall be
conducted to determine which weight class will be wrestled first.

From the CDT:

“I’m excited. The individuals on the team, I’m good friends with, I’m good friends with Nolf, (Zain) Retherford, (Bo) Nickal, (Nick) Nevills, I’ve trained with those guys, Mark Hall, so it has nothing to do with the individuals, but just the team itself,” he said at Ohio State’s media availability on Wednesday. “It’s something about when you put them all together and they wear a Penn State singlet, I just want to destroy them — probably because they’re good.”

hey iowa fans (and other whiners) ....... want to see an instance of what separates schools and gives certain schools recruiting edges

Beating Iowa now just isn't like it used to be. Beating the team that has a bunch of participation trophies from NCAA's the last 7 years, meh.

I've heard from a good source that the official will be average and bus trip long.

My prediction. Nolf weighs in and limps on the mat at intros. When 157 goes he runs on mat ready to go and Jordan hyperventilates has to default.

edited duh.

Ok... I’m just going to say what everyone wants to say (because you’all know you want to blurt it out)... RASHEED officially becomes THE man tonight with the upset win over Moore!
NFM.
an upset is needed for tonight--- 197 would be a great weight for it

Moore is really good, but Rasheed is better. So is Cassar. When Rasheed wins, the only upset will be Ryan's chair.

Was it this thread where I predicted 19-19 and PSU wins on criteria?

Granted, my prediction predated Nolf's injury. No margin for error for the good guys tonight--I could see it going down a myriad of ways--for all of them (that doesn't involve any other injuries, and Jason healing, anyway) I think I can feel pretty good about going into tourney season.

That Gene Smith is the same feller that stood up with Gordon Gee and Jim Tressel and made a big show of how great Jim Tressel was. "I just hope the coach doesn't fire me!"

Which is a pretty startling contrast with how PSU treated Paterno but I digress. :)

"I just hope the coach doesn't fire me!" What a smarmy bunch of punks. Just look at that ****-eating grin on Smith's face. I HATE Ohio State athletics department.
