Spencer Lee Promises Iowa Will Be 2020 National Champions!

LMAO! This is great! Reminds me of tOSU's arrogance and smack talk two years ago. Why is it that these challengers are so cocky while the Champions who have won 8 of 9 remain humble and grateful? The answer is coaching, plain and simple.

Just sounds like good old enthusiasm to me.

Exactly. Having watched him for years, to me, Spencer is anything but cocky. He is humble and gracious in victory or defeat. Here he is just having fun. I like to see kids really enjoying their time in college. You can’t get that time back, and athletes work so hard, they don’t have as much time to really enjoy. The fact that he is not redshirting for the Olympics to me says he is a team first guy, and he wants the guys he is with to win.

They have a shot this year, so while he may have been a bit enthusiastic, see it for what it is. He is trying to pump his guys up to do their best.

I am not 100% sure about the humble part when we have Bo, at a football game, saying “It’s what we do!” IMHO Spencer is doing a pretty similar thing.

just to be clear I have no issue with Bo or what he said.

Just a guy having some fun.
No issues with his confidence and goals.
Because PSU seems to de more reserved about expressing themselves in a controversial way doesn't mean that other teams can't express their dreams.
Penn State acts like they've been there (champs).
Other teams act like they want to be there.

Delusional • Based on or having faulty judgement; mistaken: The Psu fans that make these statemements are DELUSIONAL.

One big difference: Bo won a few team titles before saying that at a football game.

Not that I have an issue with either.

Nothing has changed about my impression of the young man, nothing at all. "This is for the kids", for those that know the situation at Kinnick Statium, speaks volumes about Spencer. The rest was said to fire up the fans, something nearly every PSU wrestling fan would love (and has loved - Bo-style, for example).

Always nice to see so many fired up about the best sport. Spencer is the best thing Iowa has going, they’d be fools not to use him.
Spencer Lee is the best thing anybody has got going but that was a nice half ass complement. And yes we agree the best Sport is Wrestling.

Bo, Hall, Cassar were anything but reserved at times last year, not that I have any issue with their expressions of joy after wins.

There is absolutely nothing controversial about what he said or how he said it.

It wasn't cocky. It wasn't arrogant. And I'm missing the part where he said, "I promise."

Is he talking March title-bold prediction, or the April title they've won 9 years straight-a given?

Well, is a guarantee a promise? In legal terms a Parent Guaranty works like a Promissory Note, so if we’re going to be legalistic here, yes, he constructively promised a title.

we’ll see.

He didn't guarantee, either, but nice try.

It was a simple statement of belief/opinion with a PR purpose to build local enthusiasm and support for the wrestling team. It was done tastefully. We should embrace such efforts to build support for the sport, even if it's for rival programs.

And it's Spencer Freakin' Lee. Poke fun at the wrestling forum posters who make outlandish "promises" or predictions . . . but going after a guy like Lee over something as benign as a rally call to the Hawkeye fan base gives a really bad look, IMO.

We’re just having fun. Lee’s a stud, but of course he is, he’s a Pennsylvania wrestling product.

Seriously, what was he supposed to say? I promise that we finish in the top 3 this year.. Just a 20 year old kid being enthusiastic about his team. I'm a huge PSU fan (figuratively) and really have to just shake my head at the pettiness on this board. Everyone is so glad that our team stresses 'fun', yet someone else has some fun and you try to turn it in to something it's not. Bottom line, I would love to have Spencer on our team and I'm sure none of you would complain if he wrestled for PSU and did this at Beaver Stadium.

It’s not like we said he took steroids or wanted to see him get punched in the face. I mean, what kind of fans would say that?
I would never say I want a college athlete to be punched in the face. Also i’m not sure what you are referring to with the steroids most likely DT again not a college level athlete.

Haha. Sure - you had multiple posters pointing to zits on Nolf and Zain as clear evidence of PED use. You don’t get to weasel out of HR’s insanity that easily.

imagine - a 19 year old kid having zits? Especially one who is engaged in frequent, dirty sweaty activity

Spencer is a great representative for Iowa and wrestling. No problems with him at all.
Just a question for the Iowa lurkers: Was the "**** Penn State" chant for the kids? Given the proximity, it leaves you wondering if they could hear it.
