U23 World Championships - Oct 21-27, 2024

Mesenbrink aside, don't expect the kind of success Team USA had at U17s and U20s. This can't possibly be the best team we could have sent.

If he is wrestling 74kg+/- 163lb is there a chance, he may go to 157?

There's always a chance, but it is more likely that you are competing (seriously, not just off-season training) at a lower weight for this than you would during an NCAA season.

During a typical NCAA season, you have to make weight 20 to 25 times over the course of 6 months. Competing internationally you often have months between weigh-ins.

The best u23 wrestlers all either make the senior team or go U20s. Messenbrink is the only real exception of a guy making the team. Bouzakis and Cardenas have been world teamers before so they could be successful, and hopefully some other guys surprise us

I’d use this tournament as more of a barometer for our depth. Paniro is another interesting watch for this tournament

I used to hold him in high esteem. But ever since he became a Michigan Man, he is super annoying. I especially disliked him when he was coaching Gomez over Nick Lee at PanAms.

He sounds like a complete idiot in the corner.

We got a kid on the JUCO team from Georgia who taught me all about “boiled peanuts” last weekend 😂

I don’t care if the dude is from Mars… USA Greco needs medals and we gotta start somewhere. Hopefully, they stay post-competition and help our country’s program.
Does he go to Northern Michigan? I've often wondered what it means to be on the only collegiate Greco team in the country. Do you just spend all your time preparing for trials?

Their schedule this past year was 3 events: one tourney in Europe, the pre-Trials qualifier, and Trials.

But they really spend all of their time shoveling snow.

I’m not so sure they shovel it up there. Just snowmobile/ski on top, lol. I love Marquette though. In the summer, anyway….

Different guy, but one of my club kids spent 3 or 4 years at NMU. They usually do some sort of overseas trip in the winter. If sponsored, they’ll go on sponsor team tours. Other than that, it’s qualifying for trials or trials, yes.

Dubuque RTC just had a one-off dual with em.

crazy finish to that mortimer match vs japan. she got turned to go down 2-12, but then stopped the move with the japanese woman on her back to make it 4-12, then ended up pinning her.

never stop wrestling, kids
A perfect illustration of the difference between freestyle and folk style. In folk style these are the rules regarding a technical fall: A technical fall terminates the match and occurs when a wrestler has earned a 15-point advantage over the opponent. Matches shall not be stopped for a win by technical fall until the points are awarded by the referee Any points awarded at the conclusion of a match (e.g., near fall, advantage time, etc.) are awarded simultaneously when determining whether a technical fall occurred. A wrestler earning a differential of 15 points during a match can lose only by disqualification for two unsportsmanlike conduct calls or committing an act of flagrant misconduct in the post match period.

Josh Saunders has been on cadet and junior world teams. He won Fargo a couple of times too. He's a much better FS wrestler than folkstyle.
