U23 World Championships - Oct 21-27, 2024

Mitchell's bracket is out here: https://arena.uww.org/weight-category/show/1ef8164a-4b2e-6758-b5f3-1dec59659665/bracket/print

Any instant analysis from those that know something about the field (@zzs006 @vhsalum @wrestlingfan22 )?
Seems he'd have the Iranian pretty early.
From USA Wrestling on his round 1 opponent: "His first-round opponent is Murat Dzhakupov of Kazakhstan, who was a silver medalist at the 2023 Stepan Sargsyan Tournament on the Senior level"

For his semi: Asluev took 3rd at 2023 Senior Asians (Went 0-1 at senior worlds). He also has a past really close match with Gadzhiev.
Batsukh took 4th at 2024 U23 Asians and Chkhitunidze took 3rd at 2024 U23 Euros only losing to Gadzhiev. He was 5th at 2022 74kg U20s (where he also lost to Gadzhiev. I would expect the other quarter to be Asluev vs Chkhi and that one of those will be MMs semi opponent.

Also just fully dawned on me that one of Takahasi, MM and Reza will go 0-1 in this tournament with the way the draw came out. Just Brutal.

I like MM side of the bracket much better. Takahashi and Reza are both really good but I definitely favor Mesenbrink. We saw what he did to Lockett and Lockett gave Reza a super tough match. He wrestles a hard pace so not sure MM will break him but it’s possible. I actually think Takahashi beats Reza though and will be a tough test for MM but one I absolutely think he wins. On the other side I really think highly of Gadzhiev. Super tough to score on and has a championship pedigree. Orozobek and Khaniev could make the final as well. Harutyunyan and Ciftci are good as well. I definitely think the top side is deeper but the bottom has 3 of the best guys. 2 of them meet first round though. I think MM wins it all with a tough second match and tough final

There are some mat assignments up on UWW (link below). Psycho's initials are M.O.M. That made me chuckle.

So match #22 is about when?

Match #22, Mat A - 74kg - 1/8 Final - Mitchell Owen Mesenbrink VS Murat Dzhakupov (KAZ)

Period 1:
Mesenbrink in red, bouncing around on the mat early.
Here we go. Mitch shoots off the whistle, no luck. Mitch keeps coming forward, Dzhakupov defending, on a knee now. Stoppage for something, restart. Mitch coming forward, looking for an opening. Dzhakupov holding position. Mitch shoots, Dzhakupov counters, nothing. Mitch re-counters & there's another stoppage for something, restart. Tying up & circling, Passivity warning Dzhakupov, restart. Tying up & hand fighting, Mitch reaches for a leg, Dzhakupov sprawls & it's a stalemate, restart, 4:32 left. Tying up, Mitch snaps, passivity warning #2 Dzhakupov, & he goes on the clock. Collar ties & hand fighting, Dzhakupov shoots, nothing & back to the tie up. Mitch reaches for a leg, nothing. back to hand fighting. Mitch shot clock point, 1-0. Tying up & circling & hand fighting. Mitch snaps, gets behind & almost scores, but Dzhakupov fights out of it, no points. Passivity warning Mitch? What? Mitch shoots, gets a leg & is working, but Dzhakupov with great defense, counters & gets the TD, 3-0 as the period ends. Wait, the score is 3-2 Mesenbrink. Mitch must have got points in the last exchange too, but I'm not sure how it was scored.

There's a delay before the start of the 2nd period. It looks like Dzhakupov wants to challenge something, but his coaches might or might not. There might be a challenge going on right now. It said "challenge canceled" on the screen, but there was one.

Challenge won, score changed to 2-1 Dzhakupov

Period 2:
Back to action. Tying up, Dzhakupov shoots, gets in deep, Mitch fighting, trying to counter now. They're on the edge & a stoppage, no scoring, restart. 2:26 left. Mitch coming forward, working, gets to a leg, keeps working & picks up the TD, 3-2 Mitch, restart. Tying up, Mitch shoots, nothing. Back to center, Mitch coming forward, Dzhakupov on the edge, down on one knee & now on both knees. Mitch pushes him out, but he's grounded, no points, restart, 1:30 left. Dzhakupov shoots, Mitch counters, but no scoring. Dzhakupov deep in on a shot, Mitch countering, trying to come around behind, keeps working & gets the TD, 5-2, restart, 46-sec left. Tying up, Mitch snaps. Dzhakupov shoots, gets to an ankle, but Mitch kicks out of it. Back to center hand fighting. Mitch coming forward, Dzhakupov shoots, nothing, Dzhakupov shoots again, but not even close. Dzhakupov with a desperation shot at the end & Mitch comes behind for another TD, 7-2

Mitchell Mesenbrink DEC Murat Dzhakupov 7-2

Don’t k ow anything about these other countries wrestlers, but that dude Mitch wrestled was tough. Game opponent and nice match

Takahashi has looked really good. He bet Reza (IRI) 11-3 & tech'd Fulmer (AUS) 10-0. This should be a great challenge for Mitch. Takahashi appears to be pretty aggressive on offense too, so this match could be like two tornadoes colliding.

Mitch will be on Mat B. He's about 6 matches out, so he should be up again in 30-40 minutes.

I infer "CP" is the amount of points the losing competitor scored (as "TP" is the victor's score).

I don't know what the abbreviation stands for (if that is the intent of your question). I did a couple searches to no avail.
If you look at MM's score, you see Mitch has 7 in the TP column and Murat has 2 in the TP column. The final score was 7-2, so I'm guessing TP means total points. No idea what CP means, and I also failed on an internet search.

74kg - 1/4 Final - Mitchell Owen Mesenbrink VS Kota Takahashi (JPN)

Period 1:
Mitch in the blue this time. Takahashi in red. Here we go. Straight to the collar ties, quick stoppage for something. Mitch might have been a bit too aggressive. Takahashi with a deep double & gets the TD, 2-0, adds a turn as they go out of bounds, 4-0, restart. Tying up, Mitch shoots, gets a leg, Takahashi trying to come behind, Mitch keeps working & gets the TD, 4-2. He just wouldn't give up until he scored, restart. Takahashi shoots, nothing. Mitch coming forward, hand fighting & snapping & gets Takahashi in the face with his hand, restart. Mitch coming forward, shoots, gets a leg & picks up another TD, 4-4, but Takahashi is hurt. He's yelling out on the match & it sounds bad. Trainers out now & it looks like his right knee got tweaked in the last exchange. Takahashi appears to be in significant pain. This might be over unless the magic cold spray can fix him. Takahashi back up, adjusting his knee brace. It looks like he's going to continue. The score still says 4-2 Takahashi though, so I don't know why there weren't any points for Mitch, and it's still 4-2 Takahashi

Back to action, Mitch coming forward, snapping, reaches for a leg & again. Takahashi complaining about hands to the face or something, restart. Takahashi with a quick double for a TD & it's 6-2, wait, 7-2. Takahashi must have received a penalty point for the hands to the face. Restart, 3:23 left. Mitch coming forward, gets a leg & a TD, 7-4, restart, and that's how the period ends. 7-4 Takahashi.

Period 2:
Back to action. Collar ties. Mitch reaches for a leg, nothing & again, nothing. Takahashi gets a leg, but Mitch scrambles out of it. They keep scrambling & go out of bounds, restart, 2:35 left. Takahashi shoots, hits a double for another TD, 9-4, restart, 2:21 left. Tying up, Mitch snaps, nothing, then drops in on a leg. Takahashi trying to come behind & it's a stalemate, restart, 2-min left. Takahashi fakes, nothing, then shoots, gets a leg, Mitch coming over the top & has an ankle now too & it's another stalemate, 1:33 left, restart. Takahashi slow getting back to center. Mitch ready to go & coming forward again, reaches for a leg, nothing & they're back to center hand fighting. Takahashi shoots, gets an ankle, but Mitch kicks out of it. Back to center, Mitch coming forward, shoots, but Takahashi counters for another TD, 11-4, restart, 41-sec left. Mitch shoots off the whistle, nothing. He's coming forward & shoots again, nothing & again, nothing. Stoppage for something. Takahashi lying on the mat now. He's cooked & is very slow getting back to center. Mitch coming forward & hits a drag for a TD, 11-6, then adds a turn 11-8, and almost gets another, but loses his grip as they go out of bounds, and time expires. Mitch runs out of time. That's a tough loss.

Kota Takahashi DEC Mitchell Mesenbrink 11-8
