US Open

Zillmer is solid and experienced. No one else can touch Bo, but that one could be close.

I’m most jazzed to see if Jason has solved his Green puzzle yet. I’m thinking yes.

Would love to pick Zain, but think he might need one more year in his “slimmer” body to beat JO, and the rest of that bracket is a wildcard.
If there's been any change in Nolf from two years ago it's that he's noticeably stronger, which should help against Green, who was definitely stronger when they last met. Nolf will still face guys in FS who are stronger; muscling guys probably isn't ever going to be his game. But I think the challenge for him now will be to let go of some of the things that worked for him in folk, whether because those things that risk exposure or were really only workable against weak competition, which he'll see less of now.

I would also say since the “knee” he has been less funky and more disciplined.....less likely to put himself in tenuous positions. My bet is the transition to FS goes smoothly.

Although there are several examples of exceptions JB, Snyder, .., I will temper my expectations for our guys most of this year in free.

I remain in the camp to be really effective at the world level it takes a few years to master the transition. I am still going to put my money on Bo, and Nolf for the open.

After that FinalX and beyond we will have to see. Hard to tell if they have to drop some of their funk or bring a new dimension to the freestyle game. I would love to see them bring something new and help change the sport a little.

Then again Cael said it wouldn't surprise him if both were world champs within a year. Wow.

Since wrestling began in 2009:

2 Americans have won their first senior-level world medal before they graduated college (Snyder, Cox)

4 Americans have won their first senior-level medals the year they graduated college (Herbert, JB, Green, Gilman)

4 Americans have won their first senior-level medals the year after they graduated college (Dlagnev, Varner, Stieber, Gwiz)

0 Americans from the Hawkeye Wrestling Club have won a senior-level world gold (unrelated but fun to type)

The only Americans who have won senior-level world medals in the past 10 years who needed more than one year after graduation were the ones stuck behind JB (Dake and DT), plus Coleman Scott and Joe Colon.

The time is now for Retherford, Nolf, and Nickal.

Colon seems to have upper hand stateside at 61, but it sure would be sweet if NLWC could house 1/2 of the USA team.

Did we ever determine if Gwiz is still an actual Member??

Jden also won his Olympic bronze after his junior year of college.

That initial throw is super impressive! Not sure what it's called, but similar to yoko wakare in Judo. Hard to pull off, but when done right it is dramatic and difficult to stop. The second throw is similar to koshi garuma except his arm is around the torso instead of the neck... awesome moves!

Ellis Coleman made quick work out of Verk, 4 point throw, then a gut and a lift.

Manville wins 7-0 he’s into the semis against Pat Smith, he lost a close one to him in the finals of the Schultz I believe.

To be fair to Verk, Coleman is the 1 seed.

All credit to Verk in the world. Hope he stays with it. You can tell he prefers space to change levels and whatnot, but hard part in Greco is that every time you push away, it is negative wrestling. Still, awesome that he's competing.

Manville looked tough. Haven't really went back and watched Provisor.

JR WTT Finals in about 15min.
My man Twohey has Hancock in the semis tonight.

Provisor is the man. Hopefully has a great tournament. Looks WAY mean, but he's a super guy.

Agree on Verk. Greco can have a tough learning curve and a good dude can take a small advantage and make the score ugly quick. Will be interested to see how he does on the backside against more mid-pack guys.

Verk went up against length and strength. Two nice qualities in any style.

Manville is almost unmovable in Greco and takes advantage of small mistakes.

If Provisor gets low leverage he is like a tank walking forward. Must of had 5 or 6 push out points last match.
