Van Ness, Facundo competing at Dapper Dan

Most likely matchups (so far only Ungar confirmed for PA):

120 - Ungar (AA champ) vs. FIgueroa (CA)
126 - Fischer (AA champ) vs. Ayala (IA)
132 - Chappell (AAA 3x finalist) vs. Lamer (OR)
138 - McMillen (AA 3x champ) vs. Young (OK)
145 - Henson (AAA 2x champ) vs. Van Ness (NJ)
152 - Herrera (AAA 3x champ) vs. Voinovich (OH)
160 - Condomitti (AAA champ) vs. Gallagher (OH)
170 - Augustine (AAA champ) vs. ??
182 - ?? vs. Craft (Blair)
189 - Milano (AAA champ) vs. Smith (GA)
220 - Lewis (AAA champ) vs. Skillings (OK)
285 - Schon (AAA 2x champ) vs. Hamilton (NJ)

Team USA and those weights are confirmed.

Facundo withdrew -- Michigan states got pushed back to that weekend.

Not sure what PA will do at 182. If Crebs (189 AA champ) or Milano can get down, they earned the shot. Also quite possible they put in Kibe at 170 and move Augustine to 182.

I continue to not understand why Dapper Dan Charities (the organization that sponsors the event) and Dapper Dan pomade haven't yet seized on the obvious corporate synergy opportunity.

Facundo Vs. Kibe?

Kibe ... maybe. Dapper Dan is going with more or less last year's weights -- which means there's a spot at 182 that needs to be filled somehow.

And then, say, Ohio or Oklahoma could run their own 'our state vs the country' event and it could be sponsored by Dapper Dan's main competitor.

120 - Ungar (AA champ/Cornell) vs. FIgueroa (CA/Arizona State)
126 - Fischer (AA champ/Clarion) vs. Ayala (IA/Iowa)
132 - Chappell (AAA 3x finalist/Bucknell) vs. Lamer (OR/Michigan)
138 - McMillen (AA 3x champ/Pitt) vs. Young (OK/Northwestern)
145 - Henson (AAA 2x champ/Iowa) vs. Van Ness (NJ/Penn State)
152 - Herrera (AAA 3x champ/Oklahoma) vs. Voinovich (OH/OKST)

220 - Lewis (AAA champ/Navy) vs. Skillings (OK/TBD)
285 - Schon (AAA 2x champ/Iowa State) vs. Hamilton (NJ/Rutger)

Team USA and those weights are confirmed.

Not sure what PA will do at 182. Hopefully Crebs (AA 189 champ/Navy) and Milano can both compete, since they both earned it.

Otherwise possible they put in Kibe (VT) at 170 and move Augustine to 182.

EDIT: added college commitments.

The key benefit that I look for in a pomade, "Will not turn hair red." Is that a common problem with pomades?

BTW, did you see the turkey pic on my IG this morning?

The hell is "pomade"?

Ya'll get weird, that close to the ocean.

In the late-80s, it was hard to find. Best product for "spiky" hair styles at that point in time. I had to go to "black" neighborhoods to find Murray's Pomade in those days. Things have changed.

Some mentioned Van Ness looks noticeably bigger now. I was suspect at first because he was 138 I thought as a high school senior. The fact he's here right now, I think he's going to be itching to go next year.

My flat top never moved with this:

I just rewatched Van Ness' NLWC match with Saunders and feel light headed. He notched 5 takedowns on Saunders. His 4 point move I think would have been a takedown if the ref had them work through the position (Saunders was hanging on for dear life and Shayne was working on a go behind). The first exchange was scored 2-1 Saunders (since Shayne rolled through and ended up behind) but I think that's 2-0 Shayne in folk (but they went OOB)

He showed lightning quick speed and elite athleticism. I saw some of Nolf's innovation in his game. Saunders is an ELITE recruit guys who's a year older than Shayne and this was Shayne's first match post surgery. I can see why Cael would not give up on recruiting him (someone said he mentioned he told Cael no a few times)

He looks every bit of a strong 145 right now and I don't think he'll have any problem dealing with the bulk of a true 149lb guy come December 2021. I obviously haven't seen him stand next to BB, but, I'd bet that he's our 149 going forward, and perhaps even a 157 later on.

Also: the pace. His pace is awesome. Forward pressure without it being risky, setting himself up for a throw, etc.

So, where are these young men headed to college?

Ungar's Cornell, Van Ness & Facundo-Us, Condomitti-Nebraska, Henson & Ayala-Iowa, Schon-Cyclones.

The others?

Interested to hear particularly about Herrera-Rendon and Milano.

I was pretty bummed we didn't land Saunders. Cael did recruit him as well.

Bummed that is, until SVN made me feel much better about it. I knew Shane was a hammer, but after a year in the Cornell room I was expecting a pretty close match.

It may prove very hard to keep Shane in redshirt next year, he will be that good out of the gate for us.

I don't know if he is that much better in folkstyle, but Saunders has not impressed me this year in freestyle. He's wrestled a ton, but he has not shown much offense. It will be interesting next year to see where he goes: if he goes 141 then Yianni goes 149. If Yianni stays at 141, then Saunders will have his hands full with a much-improved Hunter Richard (if *he* can make 149 again). Perhaps 65kg was too low for him this year?
