Holy Moly-

Anthony Knox Vs Leo Deluca

NJ vs NJ. This is a great matchup but I question why Blaze isn’t in this one? Next question is how doesn’t Knox keep getting the bids? Is it true his dad is part owner of FLO or cousins with Mike Mal?

I hope we see Perry Vs Larkin round 3. Maybe Manville sneaks in at 145

This is 120 right? Blaze is 126?

Why WOULDN'T he get the invite. He's the clear #1 at 120.

Blaze is the clear #1 since he is the world champion. I think Basset, Knox, Deluca Lilledahl, Blaze, Forrest, Davino, even Harer or Desmond are all so good and could beat each other any given weekend. This being said, Blaze had the last big win. He is #1

He's going up.

Blaze plans on going up to 26 I believe, we may see Jax vs Blaze at 26 (unless lilledhal is ready that soon after u20 worlds or Jax moves up to 32)

Is Davino up at 132 now? If not he should be in at 126 with his wins over Jax to make the U17 team

Um, Mr. Bo Bassett would like to have a word with you
Why? They are 1-1 (actually I think Knox even has another win in JH), but regardless, he has finished higher in last couple tournaments. No Fargo for Bassett, and what--a 4th or 5th place finish at WTT's, and a 4th last year at Fargo. I don't understand this infatuation with Bassett always being discussed as #1/#2? He is absolutely in the convo for top 5ish, but has been beaten by several kids in the past couple years (and in fairness, high quality kids). Curious to see what weight he goes this season too, so that plays into this.

Blaze is your clear cut number. Lilledahl could be the other #1 at 126. Then I feel these other guys fit in. Knox Vs Deluca still shocks me for a few reasons, one they are partners and two how do they keep making this low of a weight. Two years ago when Knox went 106 he was over 120.

My WnO matches would be
106 Bachman vs Kenny
113 Castillo vs Seth mendoza
120 knox vs deluca
126 Lilledahl vs Blaze
132 Jax vs Davino
138 Zepeda vs Perry

🤔He beat Knox 10-5 at last year's Super 32.

I was disputing the notion of Knox being the 'clear' no. 1. And lets not call it infatuation, he's a world champ and has earned being in the discussion. As far as what weight he will wrestle - I'd guess 120, no intel just not substantially larger coming off a season at 113. The WNO is a little confusing since it is early in the season and kids sometimes do not have to make flat weight.

If Lilledahl wins U20’s is he the clear cut number 1? You moved Blaze there because he just won worlds which I can understand but his folkstyle results haven’t been as good. I just don’t see a clear cut number 1. All of these guys have taken losses and no one has really separated themselves from the pack. If Lilledahl wins or even medals at U20’s I think he is number 1 at 126. He’s taken a few losses but also has the best wins and is great in both folk and free. I like your matchups at 120, 126, and 132. Lilledahl vs Blaze would be super fun. Battle of world champions

I am a fan of Who’s #1 but they seem to use Freestyle results to do Folkstyle #1. With that it’s usually the world team members Vs the Fargo champion. They don’t seem to consider any Folkstyle results. However in the past MAM seemed to make it every year and he never wrestled fargo.
They should reward the guys who had good Folkstyle seasons and actually wrestle all the time.
Lilledahl, Forest, Knox all put it on the line and had great Folkstyle seasons. I think Basset ran the trifecta and won Super, Journeymen and Ironman. He may have won Powerade too. So he has to be considered somewhere. Maybe 132.

I wonder if Connor Harer has a shot? Two time State Champion? I would say no since he isn’t a freestyle guy.

Perhaps Harer's folksyle credentials would've sufficed if he had won Super 32 in any of the years he entered.

Losing to Ty Watters didn't help either.

Mendoza seems to have moved up to 120 so the match at 113 is likely Castillo vs Kiser or Seidel, maybe Sidun sneaks in

Harer has a chance at 152 if Duke isn’t healthy yet and Lockett moves up to 160, based on Willies rankings it wld be Vince vs Harer for 152. (IK willie has no control over wno anymore)

I think you might be right. I could see this playing out.
This event is still really good but went down hill once Willie left. Willie should do his own version of WNO. Use real Folkstyle results and not base WNO Folkstyle on Freestyle. I know most of our D4 wrestlers don’t even wrestle Freestyle.

Looking back on last Folkstyle season and the bigger events. There were some really great years and I could see those kids being picked over because of freestyle.

I even think there should be separate freestyle and Folkstyle rankings. Willie thoughts on this

Yes, World Champ, but 2-years ago, and at 99lbs. Its like a parent saying their kid is state champ when they are in HS, but they won it in 8u. The same success has not been established as he moved into the 120's. IIRC correctly, his social media manager (dad) posted about him being up into the 130's, so I'm guessing 126 this season.

It's really sad if you truly believe this.

Using Fargo is about competition. Super 32 is the only folk tournament in the country that approaches Fargo's brackets -- and it's a month after WNO.

Regarding D4 wrestlers: whose fault is that, if they choose to not compete at events used to identify WNO candidates? Also I doubt they all skip Fargo.

I think you know what I meant by that, lol. Look, he won Worlds a couple years ago, which is an amazing accomplishment, but that is not a free WNO ticket for his HS career. Coupled with the fact he will be pushing up a few weight classes (and handful of losses to several kids recently), and I don't think he should be in consideration for the spot. That is all.

Most of the top guys in the country wrestle freestyle. They’re wrestling rankings not freestyle rankings. When clear cut guys are out with injury or close to worlds they tend to skip those weights cuz they want it to pretty much be for the top spot. Most times they skip 285 since most of the top guys also play football.

The biggest issue is how close to Worlds it is. WNO needs to be the first week of October, full stop.

I agree comparing a world championship to 8u sounds crazy. Pat mineo had posted some where Basset won Super 32, Ironman, Journeyman, and OW at Super. I would think that is a decent season in most people’s wrestling minds. Didn’t he have freestyle wins over Lilledahl (which is one of the best young FS I ever seen) and some u20 wins. Saying Not considered is stupid. Should he get a spot probably not but in the convo.

Just read on another forum Jordyn Raney vs Jax Forrest at WNO. Not sure if true or what weight class. Rematch from Super 32 where Jax was up big and got stuck in a nasty cradle by Raney.

Oh baby this will be a good one. Luke must have backed out. I would think 126 would be Luke Vs Blaze unless this one is 132

I know what you are saying - what have you done for me lately Bo - and he didn’t win a big tournament this summer. Knox was runner up at the us open and Deluca won Fargo. Both are deserving. Nationally the 126/120 are incredibly deep with talent, I like Bo’s chances with either of them but can’t argue his exclusion. Super 32 will be the next opportunity for a shakeup and the R16’s to finals there will be must see.
