World Championships - Oct. 20-28

I think I'm going to be more excited for the 2020 World Team Trials Challenge Tournament than I am for 2020 Final X (assuming the format sticks). So many incredible wrestlers butting heads for so few slots.

Bo Nickal started something and it's catching on with the US team.

"......Now we come out here and we get championship after championship after championship. We’re getting medals and titles, and that’s what we do. We’ve meshed as a team and it’s fun to be a part of this," said Cox.

The potential 2020 showdown of Zain-Steiber-Yanni at 65kg will be exciting.
Zain Retherford is ten times better than Stieber. If we don’t die, and those wrestlers are alive, we will see them wrestling again in a final for sure. Being a fan with many years of experience, I guarantee that Retherford won’t give Stieber a chance to score a single point. Retherford will wrestle as if Stieber is an amateur. I promise you. That is all. Thank you.

With you on that. The USA process to earn a spot is grueling. Below is an April 2018 Ranking of USA Senior Freestylers. Now take the weight classes, and condense to 57kg (about 125 lbs), 65kg (143), 74kg (163), 86kg (190), 97kg (214), and 125 (275.5) for an Olympic year, and one can see the talent vying for the six spots. In two years, we'll be in an Olympic year, my early stab for top candidates to represent the USA are;

57kg: Lee, Fix, or Gilman
65kg: Retherford, Stieber, or Diakomilhalis (assumes the 61kg guys are too undersized, maybe Garrett and/or Colon are in the mix)
74kg: Burroughs, Dake, Dieringer, Martinez, Nolf (and how about Marsteller, Joseph, and a few others?)
86kg: Taylor, Cox, Nickal, Z. Valencia
97kg: Snyder
125kg: Gwiz, Steveson, plus others (Nelson, Bradley, Rey)

One can easily see the effects of the weight class compression. In 2020, there will be a lot of talent sharpening iron.

Wanna say 250k from usa. 500k olympic years.
Pretty sure it is $250K for a first Olympic win, and $500K for a repeat Olympic win.

Edit: Here is an article with the payouts. By the way, these USA Wrestling payouts do not include the USOC payouts of $25K, $15K and $10K for G, S and B, respectively.

So, when are Snyder and Sadulaev supposed to rumble? What's the schedule? I'm not very in tune with the schedule but it almost seems like they're treating this like Ali-Frazier...and more important than Taylor, Dake, Cox etc.

What about Hayden Hidlay at 70 kg. He gave Molinaro and Chamberlain good matches at the US open

That sound
So, when are Snyder and Sadulaev supposed to rumble? What's the schedule? I'm not very in tune with the schedule but it almost seems like they're treating this like Ali-Frazier...and more important than Taylor, Dake, Cox etc.

Like all wrestling tournaments there is no set time. This session started at noon ET and Snyder's match will be the 6th one wrestled so the actual time depends on the first 5 matches.

That match looked like one Russian (Bahrain) taking a dive for another Russian.

I take it tracks team score is wrong? They have us up by 7 going into the Snyder match

Track Wrestling showing the first of 2 bronze matches at 97kg.

Sadulaev vs Snyder up immediately after that for 97 kg gold.

Edit - 97kg gold match on deck.

I believe the software is totaling the entire tournament (including women) and that is why the score is wrong. I could be wrong though.

Saw that. They have 20 points added for the US women and 18 for the Russian women.

Already amped for #3.... Looks like Snyder needs to work on his Mat Wrestling, lol.

Guess that probably puts DT #2 P4P though.

Snyder could have bailed early. Sometimes it's better to concede 2 and belly out

Is there another ref I'm not seeing? That ref didn't look in position to call a pin. Credit to the Russian though.

He wasn't in position, but as an international sports official who wants to piss off Russian sports officials.
