World Team Trials - Sept 11 & 12

Definitely he’d be making over 250k. Wwe has some god awful guys and gals making twice that. I’m sure he’s looking at millions. He shouldn’t have made it so clear that the wwe was where he wanted to go. Could have played the ufc vs wwe to get more cash. You would of thought Brock would of at least taught him that.

It’ll be interesting if he’d consider going to AEW. As bad as the wwe is AEW is a real shit show. But they have an owner whose dad is worth six billion dollars and he’s spending crazy money for old guys that wwe doesn’t want anymore. If he’s willing to be completely embarrassed, booked like a lightweight, doing the dumbest shit you could think of, he may be able to get more money out of them. Plus they’re handing out guaranteed contracts but I’m assuming he’d have that in either company.

I’ll cringe the first time he does the backflip off the top rope tho lol.
Millions??? The WWE’s popularity has declined significantly from its heyday in the late 90s-early 00s. I don’t see Gable commanding the type of initial payday stars like Lesnar, The Rock, John Cena, etc. did back in the glory days.

I’ve come around to liking Gable and I was thrilled when he won his gold medal. But let’s be honest here: He doesn’t (at age 21 at least) have the type of “stage presence” to be a huge draw. Not in my humble opinion, anyways. I’ve watched all of his interviews and he needs a lot of work in front of the camera. And that’s half the equation. We are talking about the entertainment business afterall. As for Hollywood, all I will say is him and Suriano better have backup plans. Ain’t happening. My worthless $.02.

I always thought PDIII would be perfect in the WWE...

I’d like him to prove it to ME, how can anyone assume he will beat Petri again, looked like as close to 50/50 as you’re gonna get.
He got robbed of a four point move by the ref. With normal officiating he wins that match by two or three.

Actually, likely more, as Geno would have had to shoot in the last minute or two, and Gable would score more go behind 2s.

Heard a rumor (Flo maybe) that Zain is going 70 KG. He has a frame on the smaller size, but perhaps it is a good decision to give it a go.

He's beaten Green (at 65KG), Pantaleo (who will be a tough out), Ashnault, Deakin (in folkstyle), and most recently J.O. at 65KG (also lost to him in the past), but all these guys might have some size on him now.

Should be interesting if he goes up. Would cede 65 KG to Nick Lee (McKenna and Yianni) to fight it out.

My $0.02 re: Gable

1) his trajectory is straight up. The only thing he needs is some bottom of par terre defense work. A position he rarely found himself, in the past. I think he rips through world's and won't be 'seriously' tested again.

2) he needs work on his personality in front of the camera if he wants to act someday. What better place to learn how to "over-act" than the WWE? ;-)

3) His first movie is where the big $$$ are if he really wants to go that direction. I am sure he will make 7 figures in the WWE his first year but 8 figures is post WWE

4) the legend that is Anthony Cassar is cemented in history forever. Good thing they won't meet today though. Gable is not the same beast he was 3 years ago.

5) I see zero upside to his returning to the NCAAs this year. He may choose that route but there is really nothing to gain and an injury could prove costly. I don't think his degree is a consideration.

Ashnault registered at 70.

Also, Coon registered at 130 Greco. Guessing this means football didn't work out (at least for now).

EDIT: Titans placed Coon on "waived/injured" list, which means they can stash him on Injured Reserve if no other team claims him in 24 hrs. Seems like they intend to keep him on the practice squad, otherwise they could've cut him outright.

I think Zain at 70kg makes better sense, all things being equal. He wrestled at 149 lbs in college and dropping to 143 might be too much to hold.
All things equal??
Zain got handled like (other than the FS flukey LBF a couple years ago) I‘ve never seen him get handled…by someone 4 years younger in his own room. Why are we dodging the facts and sugar coating this?

Fire away

Dodging facts?

Dominant Nick Lee = 141 lbs
65kg = 143 lbs
Dominant college Zain = 149 lbs
70kg = 154 lbs

Those are facts.

My opinion - maybe Zain wants to eat and be strong again.

Email from USA Wrestling re Worlds. So far, on the men's side only Gilman and Steveson haven't yet accepted their entries.

Curious what effect these decisions have on placement for 2022 trials. If, say, Gilman doesn't go to worlds in October and Spencer Lee medals at 57kg, does Gilman lose his spot and have to start from scratch in the 2022 trials? If USAW has made that clear to the wrestlers, they haven't made it clear to fans.

Olympic medalists Taylor, Snyder, Maroulis, Dake will compete at 2021 World Championships in Oslo, Norway

Olympic medalists Taylor, Snyder, Maroulis, Dake will compete at 2021 World Championships in Oslo, Norway

Four Olympic wrestling medalists from the 2020 Olympic Games in Tokyo, Japan, have notified USA Wrestling that they will accept their position on the U.S. World Team that will compete at the 2021 Senior World Championships in Oslo, Norway, October 2-10.

According to the 2021 World Team Selection Procedures, “The 2020 Tokyo Olympic Medalist, if competing at the same weight class, will receive the automatic selection to the 2021 World Team at that same weight.”

These four Olympic medalists will accept their selection to the 2021 World Team and compete at the same weight class where they wrestled at the Olympic Games: Olympic champion David Taylor (86 kg in men’s freestyle), Olympic silver medalist Kyle Snyder (97 kg in men’s freestyle), Olympic bronze medalist Helen Maroulis (57 kg in women’s freestyle) and Olympic bronze medalist Kyle Dake (74 kg in men’s freestyle).

Maroulis and Snyder are both two-time Olympic medalists, and have both won two Senior World titles. Dake won Senior World titles in 2018 and 2019. Taylor was a 2018 Senior World champion.

These decisions affect the upcoming 2021 World Team Trials at the Pinnacle Bank Arena in Lincoln, Neb., September 11-12. With the acceptance of their World Team berths, there will not be any competition at the following weight classes in Lincoln, men’s freestyle (74 kg, 86 kg, 97 kg) and women’s freestyle (57 kg).

The United States won nine medals at the Olympic Games in Tokyo, Japan, so five additional medalists will have until August 15 to notify USA Wrestling what their decision will be concerning the 2021 Senior World Championships.

The five Olympic medalists who have not yet notified USA Wrestling are Olympic champion Gable Steveson (125 kg in men’s freestyle), Olympic champion Tamyra Mensah Stock (68 kg in women’s freestyle), silver medalist Adeline Gray (76 kg in women’s freestyle), Olympic bronze medalist Thomas Gilman (57 kg in men’s freestyle) and Olympic bronze medalist Sarah Hildebrandt (50 kg in women’s freestyle).

In addition, one U.S. athlete finished fifth at the Olympic Games in Tokyo, Jacarra Winchester (53 kg in women’s freestyle. According to the 2021 World Team Selection Procedures, “Athletes who wrestled for a medal in the 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games and stay at the Olympic weight category or choose to move one adjacent weight category (10 weights) will be placed into the semi-finals of that weight.” Winchester has not yet notified USA Wrestling of her decision.

Please note, a 2020 Olympic medalist who chooses to change weight classes would have to compete in the World Team Trials at that adjacent weight class, and would advance to the semi-finals in the new weight class.

USA Wrestling will announce any additional acceptances by 2020 Olympic medalists of World Team berths as they are received.

The 2021 World Championships in Oslo will be conducted in the 10 World Championship weight classes in each of the wrestling disciplines, for a total of 30 weight classes. These weight classes are:
Men’s freestyle: 57 kg, 61 kg, 65 kg, 70 kg, 74 kg, 79 kg, 86 kg, 92 kg, 97 kg, 125 kg
Women’s freestyle: 50 kg, 53 kg, 55 kg, 57 kg, 59 kg, 62 kg, 65 kg, 68 kg, 72 kg, 76 kg
Greco-Roman: 55 kg, 60 kg, 63 kg, 67 kg, 72 kg, 77 kg, 82 kg, 87 kg, 97 kg, 130 kg

The World Team Trials in Lincoln will be held at the World Championships weight classes, except for those weight classes in which a 2020 Olympic medalist accepts automatic selection to the 2021 World Team at that same weight class.

Zain unfortunately I think is a tweener, not unlike Mark in terms of an Olympic weight. He wasn't a small college 149 ... it's not a James Green to 65KG cut bad but I don't think it's easy.

I think Zain has seen the benefits from the DT/Nolf weight gain, I hope he goes up and kicks JO’s tattooed ass while doing it.
The more NLWC guys we get on World Teams the better.

Reminder: Zain took off significant time post-college (IIRC 6 months) to re-shape his body for 65 kg.

And Zain's last college match was over 3 yrs ago.

So maybe, just maybe, his college weight isn't an issue.

70kg field is also a whole lot thinner than the 65kg field. Though a non-sucked out JO is a tall task as could be Pantaleo.

James Green will have a say as well. Also, 70kg will not be thin if Zain joins JO up there. Might actually be tougher than 65kg.

Great Podcast today with TG. Regarding Worlds, he said he's "leaning towards going and will make the decision on the 15th".

Personal note - he sounds very mature. Based on some things he said and how he said them, it's very apparent he's been hanging around the guys that make up the PSU culture.
