I wrote this on L247…. I bet this offer is similar to what the rumors were about about Real Woods. $250,000 total for like three or four years. 1 year in college and then 2-3 years at the HWC. No way they are paying him 250K for one season. As said above, if this is for one season, he should take it in a heartbeat.

If he did take it I'm pretty sure Cael would not be interested in that mindset. Something about kids not coming here for hot tubs and ice baths and all of that lol

🤞I’m salivating at the possibility of adding Traux and Nagao to a lineup with RoHo, Bobar, SVN, Haines, Facundo, C*, Brooks, and Kerk. Holy smokes! 😳

I wonder how guys who have been slaving in the room the last 3-4 years feel about this?
Unless they are looking to add their 4th AA medal their thoughts aren't that important.

If they are a three time AA (Cassioppi is only one) and are receiving significantly less there thoughts are important.

Anyone would be insane to offer that to a 1 year wrestler with no team title impact.

Just because someone does it, that doesn't change.

Their thoughts become important if they decide to leave because of it.

Drake Ayala, his points next year and following years, pretty important.

If I was Mr. Facemush I would tell TnT I want my bag with at least $100K or I'm hitting the portal.
I mean, there are levels here, right?

At some point, there would be animosity, and you do kind of need the other guys to do the things you paid Truax to do in the 1st place.

Doesn't take many guys on a roster with Ayala or Kennedy's potential to wonder where his bag is before the point squeeze isn't worth the juice on paying up that much.

The same situation applied this year with RBY. And will next year with Starocci who is going to get a bag. Suriano at Michigan. The list will continue to grow. This is the new normal.

I'm thinking liv golf here. You pay me a bunch of money what's my motivation if I win or lose I get paid. I don't want that mindset anywhere near our wrestling program as I'm sure Cael doesn't either. Just doesn't sit well at all

Willie has confirmed he heard the same from a very close source, and Willie has a great track record for accuracy and not spreading unsubstanciated rumors.

What this means to me might play a little differently:

Say a $250k 'package offer' to play and stay at Iowa, in the guize of an NIL package, but examined closely is an amalgamation.

Let's say a full ride from the Brands = out of state maybe $40k

The remaining $210k NIL comes with the condition it pays out over 5 years with the final 4 tied to training at the HWC.

Would this be a legal way to package NIL? I don't know that $50k per year stipend is outrageous for a regional training center. Maybe so for a kid who may never be a threat to make a world team. We will have to see.

I really don't think there is that much big money out there, and where it exists, wrestling is away down the list behind football and basketball.

Truax or AJ does not guarantee a title that much is crystal clear. What $250k might guarantee is disharmony amongst the rest, and exponential disharmony proportional to the number of Ferrari's one owns.

Not the same cstar and RBY we're already here they didn't get a bag to come here and I would argue they nurtured their own likeness and personalities and we're offered money but I would be surprised if it was to stay

I'm ok with Iowa doing it they will start to feel it in the lack of team cohesiveness no way I'm okay working my ass off for those two mat monkeys and not getting what the transfer guy got to come in. Which brings us to what will the changes be on the front end. What will start getting offered to kids coming out of high school. I'm ok with you earn a likeness and reputation and someone wants to give you nil money that's fine but don't expect it from the gate

Something tells me,,, we are getting Messenbrink. He is in Happy Valley and once you enter Happy Valley,,,, you always leave wearing Blue & White. This would be a crazy grab. Top level talent and back to back with Haines
Would be great get, but what weight would he slot in at? 157?

I’m thinking rationally.

If 250k is scarce money, and I believe it to be scarce money, why on Earth would anyone with half a brain use it to help for a trophy for a year that almost gives you no chance to win just the same?

Think it through. If we’re just throwing around millions, then I’m wrong. But I don’t think anyone is. So what does 250k HERE to Truax help? You’d think one could use it to entice high school blue chippers, guys with more than a year, etc.

Put it this way, I’ve never been more confident that Iowa is just any other program than I would be if they’re using resources like that on one and doners in years with no real shot.

Perhaps the motivation of TnT is to keep their jobs after next season. According to WrestleStat, Iowa is currently looking at a 5th place finish at the next NCAA tournament. A lot will change; but still, it seems that they have a lot of climbing to do just to get into the top 3. Another motivation is that TnT would want more success on the mats to attract new recruits (i.e., success breeds success); and right now, PSU is running away from the field.

This is like scholarships. Iowa couldn't understand that blue chippers would come to PSU for less scholarship money than Iowa was offering. The same will be true with NIL money. You want to roll with Cael, Casey, Taylor, Nickal, Brooks, Cassar, Starocci, Nolf, Zain, Lee, RBY? We're not paying you as much, because there's value in that.

The money is compelling. $250k is a lot of cash.

That said, think about the long term impacts here. Truax has one year left. He's a multi-time AA who could be a finalist at 184. Possibly even a winner. Going to PSU is an investment in his future he should consider, too.

Having the stink of an NCAA title on your name is actually worth a lot of money, too, over the course of your lifetime. I would imagine that, if going into coaching, that would actually help you out with contract negotiations. Same with running camps, etc. I have no clue how much money AB or Carter make from camps, but I have to imagine AB commands a bit more per week each summer than Hidlay or Keckeisen.

Putting it another way: Winning an NCAA title and whatever, lesser NIL deal is a better investment in your future than 3rd place medal, a bum knee/shoulder and a larger bag of cash.

Nothing wrong with a coach who is excited about a kid who is joining his program and wants to celebrate it. It is a good thing no matter who they are. I hope we celebrate all of our recruits who join the program no matter if they are ranked or not. I just think it is good leadership. So many on this board want to make fun to them because aren't top 10 recruits. NO program does what PS does. I get the Suriano thing and not liking Rutgers, but time to move on. I was on board with not liking Rutgers too, but its old short lived history. I have no problem with him be excited abut his recruits. From an incoming recruit standpoint, it's nice touch to be acknowledged by your new coach. Just being objective..
LOL he can boom when they start winning trophys!

I just did a search on "Traux" on this board. The misspelling of this poor kid's name goes back more than two years, during NCAA, when @Random4598375 started it.

His name is Truax, as in he's going to take a true axe to the head of the next guy that misspells it.
Has there been an official board decision yet on how we'll be misspelling Lilledahl's name for the next six years?

That's not apples to apples. RBY has been in the room from the start; he earned his chops while wearing a PSU singlet.

Traux is a ringer who hasn't dropped a bead of sweat in the room.

Woods didn't bring them a Championship, Truax won't put them over the line either. How much more money are they willing to throw into the portal?

These boosters are walking a fine line if they keep bringing in hired guns. Unless they also have enough $$$ to keep Cass and a few others happy, TnT could find themselves managing a revolving door.

Sorry. Although that post is looking a little prophetic now that he’s portalling over to the B1G, LOL.
