The formerly retired transfers ("mercenaries") need to step it up in the consolations for needed team points

Berge had the escape early in the period, relaxed for a split second thinking it was going to be uncontested, and got ridden out. Disappointing but not unexpected.
I agree; saw that too.

Young and Lewan both looking shaky, too. So far, the B1G is looking WAY overrated. This year. Maybe 8th year seniors have an expiration date?

Beau won.
I know but he waited until the last possible second. Guys with talent like that shouldn't be so scared of giving up an early takedown, at least it pressures the other man and with their skill they'd probably end up getting the points more often than not.

What a match between Jacques and Lewan! Both with :25 riding time in rideout periods. Into 2nd OT.

Insane that on the last restart in the first OT that the Mizzou wrestler needed 2 more seconds of riding time and couldn't get it. Michigan is charmed, I guess.

Welp - we know what we should have just accepted, we need our hammers to carry us home to win this tournament.

So frustrating to see guys lose by not doing anything from neutral
Not just that, they're getting ridden. There was nothing special about the ride in Brady's match, he just didn't finish getting the escape.

C-Starr in the hole, Mat #3. Need to restore some order and get some bonus points in the last 2/5's of the lineup

Most of the bitchin' here is because of the perceived effect on the team race - but really, who cares? We have six guys who matter, the other 3 are just window dressing except for about once in 10 years. Those 3 are 50/50 guys just about every match here - the coin landed tails two out of three times this round. To expect something different at this tourney despite about 10 years worth of NCAA history out of the three is fooling yourself.

Now before Roar comes on here and chastises me for the "who cares?" Yes, for the individuals it is tough. Last go round for Berge and DH and they are already on the backside. But means nothing for who hoists the team trophy Saturday.

If one of the big six goes down unexpectedly - then start worrying.

There goes a perfect tournament. Let's roll up some bonus with the big fellas!

Who else’s initials are BB?
Starting lineup

Drew Hildebrandt
Roman Bravo-Young
Nick Lee
Beau Bartlett
Brady Berge
Creighton Edsell
Carter Starocci
Aaron Brooks
Max Dean
Greg Kerkvliet

Teemer barely escaped 3-2 as well. The 30 seed from Cornell had a TD with 0:15 left, but just barely OOB.

Every wrestler is in shape and jazzed for RD 1 matches. Where we really shine is quarters on forward. That is not to say that I am not hugely disappointed with the plugs we secured for 2 of our 3 holes. It's just not to be.

This is the best post I have seen.

We have gotten so comfortable winning very close matches every year that we expect them now.

When the B"ig 6" begin losing, or these lower Michigan/Iowa seeds are making a run to place, then the worry starts. Right now it is still kind of chalk.

Young looked dreadful in his match - won 3-2, but stalled out most of 3rd after giving up escape. Probably should have been dinged for multiple stalls. And looked like shit against a much lower seed than Brady faced.

We can break even on it (or close to even) with some bonus in their next matches.
