Askren's Trials Controversies

He is a legend but let’s put it to rest.

He talked Sh.t on PSU on multiple occasions.
He talked sh.t on Marstellar who is a PA hs legend and finished his collegiate career not 15 miles from BJC
He stated going after CS knee on national tv ( better left unsaid- unwritten rules)
His coach makes accusations regularly

If you think the red carpet was going to be rolled out with a party sendoff...........

I do not like some things that come out of CS mouth. I wish the fans at the trials would have been better, but...
Pa and psu has a rabid wrestling fanbase(for better and worse) and if either believes you did them wrong and you come into their house expecting flowers......good luck.

Go to a bitter rival hs dual in PA.
What you see and hear there will make what JB heard pale in comparison.
You can go to a high school match ANYWHERE in Pennsylvania and it will put the stuff you heard last week to shame.

I almost posted before… having wrestled high school in PA in the late 80s and early 90s… I remember rabid fans in high school gyms yelling and screaming and booing and we weren’t even very good. I loved it.

Ha ha! Reminds me of leaving a hotly contested dual in WA where our guys won. It was at the other school and There was a crowd waiting for us outside as we were walking to the school bus. I thought for sure that a fight would start but we got out of there without any serious trouble. I was laughing to myself the whole way back because I was thinking how much that reminded me of PA! 😁

Do folks realize, this silly event is being talked about far more than the wrestling? Congratulations Twitter/X, online drama drivers.
@Hotshoe I just caught on to the meaning of your member name after remembering you said you are a farrier. Sometimes I'm not the sharpest wrestler in the shed : ) I live in horse country, so I can appreciate your profession. Even though it involves cows and not horses, I have watched many videos on The Hoof GP YouTube channel. I find them fascinating.

Been thinking about this and had a change of heart. Willie, others, and Iowa fans are right. JB should have never been booed. What he had to endure was just horrible. The goat deserves better. He is the face of wrestling and a 7 time world and olympic champ. Messenbrink was too rough and dirty with him. MM deserved every bit of flack from the wrestling community. You see how MM tried to take JBs knees out? I feared for his safety the way Mitchel violently tried to injure JB. I was so impressed with Jordans composure as JB gently had to push down on his head ever so lightly. JB should probably get tested for a concussion when Mitchell cheaply was was slamming Burroughs head off the mat with those snaps out of bounds. Absolutely disgraceful. Does he know Burroughs is a 10 time world and Olympic Champion? Personally i think Messenbrink should be fined and should lose a year of freestyle and folk style. Maybe some community service training in the iowa wrestling room as punishment? I mean MM made Desanto with all his shenanigans look like an angel. Desanto is the online goat of instagram and when he acted up no one booed him ever. They just cheered him and knew his goat status and all he has done for wrestling. Makes perfect sense to me also when the iowa fans throw so much shade at Carter. I mean when you have an angel like desanto setting great examples of sportsmanship you can relate to them being upset with Carters antics.

The PSU fans are a damn embarrassment. JB has just always been so supportive of PSU and has never shown any jealousy toward them, or any former 4 time undefeated state champs from PA either. He never took any cheap shots or jabs at anyone. Manning has always been classy himself. So listen all the posters and fans of Penn State, show some respect to the king Yazdani, oops i mean King Burroughs and give him respect. He is after all a 13 time world and olympic and galaxy champion. Heard from a reliable source that JB was also trying to challenge the booing and wanted a brick thrown. Seems fair to me and would have been warranted.

Jason Nolf also got major home cooking against the goat. Jason got a lucky takedown call with tbh I think it was more of a push out. That double was so weak and not fair, Jordans socks were down and how was he supposed to defend it anyway in his condition?. Should have been 1 point at most. The second period Nolf should have been DQ’d. He pulled a Hidlay/Delgado impression and never gave the king a fair shake. Thats why the sock pull is legal for him. And again the fans booing him for him adjusting his socks. Duh he has won 21 Championships and is the face of wrestling. How is he supposed to compete when his socks slip down an inch? Plus he has earned the right for an extra breather. JB is the same man who told fans as an NCAA announcer he was going to target Carters bad leg. Bo Nickal the ginger bully he is had to take Carters back and acted like a complete baffoon. Does Bo Nickal know who JB is? JB is the freaking goat and he is allowed to say and act however he wants. He even got willie saylor and his best friend wild turk up in here scolding us PSU fans for the treatment of Burroughs. So anyway, personally i would just like to say to all the important guys with a voice, i can admit when i am wrong and i am sorry for trying to defend the booing. Luckily its so random and rarely happens and we just need to do better.

Its not like you ever heard New York fans chanting “F*** Joel Embiid”, over and over. Oh sorry that happened last night. Or the goat of women’s college basketball hearing chants of “overrated”. Could you imagine if that happened? Oh darn that happened too.

I could go on and on and on. But yeah PSU fans are awful for booing some dirty tactics. Got it.

Up early with your best analysis. I’m sure every one of us will try to be at M2 when DT has JB come in to teach the nuances of stalling.

So, who is going to be there when Willie walks away from wrestling to yell, "career is over!"

Man, this talk of PA high school wrestling brings back some rivalry memories. Danville PA (AA Team Champs) vs Shikellamy (AAA Team Champs) back in the 70s and 80s bordered each other. In 1977 Danville beat Shik in Sunbury and there was an all out riot after the match. A fan came out of the stands and punched the Danville coach in the face right out on the mat. Our 139 pounder (Danville's) was handing out girls field hockey sticks to defend ourselves in the event the locker room got stormed. The State Police escorted us out of town that night. Ahhhhh.....memories!

OK - tell me if this doesn't have a familiar tone to it. This happened way back in the late 60's when Susquehanna Township went against Cedar Cliff in a dual. The dual went down to the heavyweight match and the Susquehanna guy was leading by a point or two. I don't remember if he was on bottom or going for a takedown, but he rolled across his shoulders and the ref immediately called the pin. The guys sitting on the Susquehanna team saw a chair flying over their heads onto the mat. The head coach, Bill Quinn, had thrown the chair out of frustration. Of course, D1 coaches never do that. 😁

LOL...crazy stuff!! In this Shik match, our 185 got slammed and then the Heavyweights came out and Shiks heavy punched ours in the face and pandemonium ensued!!

LOL, not wrestling, but in football we regularly had a police escort between my hometown Ridgway and Johnsonburg. Ironically, they combine the schools for football these days.

You reminded me of this clip, go to app 2:48 in lolol.
It's funny how these rivalries can shake out.

Sounds familiar. $100 says that most of the trouble was caused by guys that had recently graduated from high school who had consumed a pretty good amount of Rolling Rock or Yuengling prior to the games.

strangest every happen to me in high school wrestling think it was 1967 we wrestled a team in ohio cant remember who but right before the first match the whole ceiling collapsed luckily no one was hurt and the match was cancelled!I lost all that weight for nothing!

I watched Bad Blood on Flo today. It follows (I think) 7 or 8 years of Dake trying to take the 74kg spot from Burroughs.

At the 2017 WTT, Dake beat Burroughs for the 1st time, winning the 1st match (and only the 1st match) in their best of three final. Dake got out to an early 6-1 lead and then shut things down, winning 6-6 on criteria. It was held in Lincoln, Nebraska and you hear the Nebraska fans booing Dake as loudly as any arena has ever booed anyone. Lol.

Yeah, all those cow hoof abscesses are fascinating. Lol

Always liked JB as a wrestler and as person. Done many fantastic things for the sport and for our country. However, if you play the heel, you reap what you sow. You can't be  SOCKED when you don't get the response you want.

I find watching others do a job I don't understand pretty interesting. It's amazing how much you realize what you do not know when you watch an expert. things you might never even consider.
