Bo Bassett thread

Another big difference is that nobody in D11 has lodged a formal complaint against Beca. One might wonder why.
True. No investigation if there is no complaint. The districts aren't policing the schools in that way. Guess BECA hasn't made anyone mad enough?

Man, back like 30 years ago I remember some kids moved to Berwick of all places bc parents got jobs at the Potato Chip factory (Herr's or Wise) or the power plant. Go figure the kids were massive and Berwick had an amazing football team, lol.

Certainly not mad enough that they'd want to start a circular firing squad of complaints across sports.

(Though to be completely fair, past practices are likely less true today.)

PIAA simply does not have the resources to investigate every potential allegation in every sport across the state. And that's a good thing. Rival schools would turn PIAA into the Sports Stasi, more than they already do.

If those resources existed, they'd still push on big school football and basketball. Other sports would get investigated with remaining resources, which is to say only the most blatant cases.

So it will always be up to the PIAA Districts to enforce locally -- translated, have unwritten gentleman's agreements for how much cheating they will tolerate among local schools. And if that means hypothetically D7 or D11 are more tolerant than D6, well, that's life

People can complain about that all they want but what's the alternative? Club sports only? Jungle thick bureaucracy? Everybody lawyers up?
District 6 tolerance is an interesting question.
Bishop Guilfoyle has powerhouse class A football and girls basketball programs. Typically made up of the best athletes from Altoona, Hollidaysburg, Central, Bellwood-Antis, Tyrone and several additional school districts. District 6 is typically very tolerant of this situation.
If State College had a brain they would hire David Taylor as a school administrator in charge of wrestling. District 6 would be very tolerant of all kinds of bright young men from across the commonwealth wanting a State College education.

Technically every public school in PA is open enrollment, if they have space and you can pay the average student spending cost you can request to go to a different district.
Many of these schools need to be. Some enrollment figures (US News):
Reynolds 7-12 = 335 --> 56/yr
Benton 9-12 = 179 --> 45/yr
Northwest 7-12 = 318 --> 53/yr

Benton and Northwest have an athletics sharing partnership for cost savings purposes. IIRC a few years ago Northwest's starting QB wrestled for Benton.

No idea how many other schools do something similar but hopefully it's fairly common. A good thing as it allows more opportunities for the students.

If State High really had a brain they'd hire him as a guidance counselor or something other than in charge of wrestling.

I.e., they'd at least make a token attempt at dissociating the team from the club, as opposed to Beca Johnstown and The Compound being siamese twins and blaring it from the rooftop.

Hiring Taylor for any real administrative job and making him the wrestling coach would be a no-brainer. They would get both a bright young guy who has already exhibited great leadership skills in a leadership position and a great coach.

That being said, the number of kids with high level wrestling skills seeking a State College education would instantly become a freakishly high outlier number and I guarantee District 6 would be very tolerant of that particular statistical anomaly.

Knew it was coming- just got word in Central PA Bassets house is for sale with a sign in the yard. That didn’t take long. Guess the education wasn’t that elite. Wonder what prep school they end up at? When will Sem or Blair be making the announcement

In situations like this, rest assured there is an adult living vicariously through their kids creating the mess. Could be those who got punished. Could be those who turned them in.

Reminds me of the opening verse of Porno for Pyro’s “Pets”.

Ridgway and Johnsonburg play football as one team in D9. Two former rivals that would be equivalent to Pitt and PSU playing as one team.

Whoever sent word, tell them jts said they are full of shit. Also, if you want to drive to the Bassetts house to confirm what I’m saying, head to Southwest part of the state..

Sounds like BB and PJ Duke (and Mullen) were in town

@El-Jefe - any intel from your deep state contacts?
I'm only aware of those 3. Wouldn't surprise me if more were there.

Folks attending the match: any chance you saw this guy? Not that I expected him to attend today, just that eventually he will.

Wait a second is he Young guns or M2? Or both
They definitely have the social media figured out. Gosh sports are changing

Time to time is greater than 6 workouts a month.
We are talking about a kid who probably has a couple dozen or more high level workouts a month.
I get exhausted thinking about his effort to achieve greatness.
Hell my buddy and I did cleans, squats and deadlifts (reps, no outrageous weight) Friday and from my mid back down through my legs I feel like someone clubbed me. Repeatedly.

I know that this kid gets talked about a lot here, but curious that the Ultimate Club Duals haven't been mentioned. He's a whirling dervish. They have several of his matches up on Youtube (I'm not sure that the board allows posting content from there) and I just watched him easily dispatch a NY high school state champ. I think he was up 10-4 (the 4 points all on Bassett releases) before he stuck the kid. I also saw a match where he tech-falled and embarrassed a WVU commit. Most of these kids (all of these kids) simply can't match his pace, let alone his technical skills.

Like I said, I know he gets a lot of interest, but I hadn't seen these matches or any mention of them yet.

He used to be talked about a lot on here. Then dropped a few matches and people stopped. I watched one match live from this weekend, the Tournament guy was announcing it. I think it was a top ten match Vs the kid who he lost to at Fargo. I think he won 13-4 and cut him 4 times. Basset isn’t scared to put it on the line that is for sure and has been spending lots of time in the NLWC room.
A few weeks ago someone was telling me he TF’d PSU commit Cael Nasedo in the second. People were saying this weekend about Basset, Forest, Gibson, Herring all training together. @billrag Where can I see those matches?

Try the Bassett Brothers wrestling channel on Youtube. Like I said, aside from having very sound technical skills, he's just on a different level with his conditioning and nobody can keep up.

There are a few coaches that played a part in honing their wrestling skills but as for their strength and conditioning, dad (The Compound) should get most of the credit there. Well. aside from the boys themselves who are putting in the work..

For what it’s worth, you can easily share YouTube videos on this forum simply by pasting the link in to your message. The forum will automatically turn that into an embedded video, easy peasey:

Thanks, I just wasn't sure if it was frowned upon or not. As for starting a new thread, I knew that he's been talked about a LOT on this forum, but the most recent thread isn't active and hasn't been posted in for 5 months so I presumed it would be OK to start a new one about a very recent high school tournament.

It's pretty hard to keep a thread going about a kid this young, especially in the off season. I think we are all pretty excited for Bo, both his potential and the potential we have to land him someday.

That said it is still very early in his career. Kid's bodies grow a lot during highschool. For every 1 freshman level Spencer Lee phenom, there are probably 10-20 phenom Adam Busiellos.

For now it's fun to watch him destroy almost everyone in his path, as well as spend some time in state college now and then. Some elite older kids are able to handle him, so he is just still a pup in training to become a Wolf. I should have used a cat analogy there.

As for how good can he be at the collegiate level and beyond? We will know a lot more after his junior year, as opposed to 8th grade. Bo looks like he could have generational talent, but this is a marathon not a sprint.

By the time we get to his recruiting season we may well see his other thread get the second most posts of any on this board. Until then my head is dancing with thoughts of MaM, Carol, Lelledahl, Sealy and Hopke.

This is kind of weird where he talks about being around "kids who swear or listen to bad music." I was kind of ostracized in wrestling because I listened to music that wasn't "Christian Rock", I liked The Police and U2 which meant I wasn't a Christian and am going to hell. At one point one of the older brothers of a kid on the team told me that he had to baptize me in the bathtub while my parents weren't home.
