Greg Schiano to be named Rutgers Head Coach within 24 Hours

Clay Travis on his way to Piscataway to protest as you read this. Ha. He'd probably get cement shoes if he tried that.

It will be interesting to see if Schiano can at least restore respectability. He had them competitive before, but that was in the Big East.

Hard to imagine he can't get them better than where they are now. Of course, that's a mighty low bar. They have to be as bad of a "major" CFB team as there has ever been. Part of me thinks Schiano would be smart to come in and stoke the flames of the "rivalry" with Penn State. What's he have to lose? No one outside of RutgersAl would take him seriously but at least he'd generate a little interest in Rutgers football.

Looks like he is having his first face to face towards the end of the week and very well could be the new HC by this time next week. Lots of strong support from boosters and by all accounts, he appears to be the finalist.

Clay, wanna go to Piscataway with me today?

I can see him getting back to 6 7 wins. Anything more than that is going to be tough. Ask Maryland. The program collapsed after he left Rutgers the first time. Whose to say it wont happen again?

Yep, it wasn't too many years ago that Rutgers was more respectable, there was hype for the PSU/Rutgers game, and a full, obnoxious NJ/NY crowd showed up for the game out in the chemical wasteland they call NJ.

I also don't see any reason why a decent coach could not get Rutgers into the middle of the pack in the B10, with 3 or 4 B10 wins each year. Hope Schiano can keep a couple of NJ players at Rutgers each year that have been going to Michigan each year! ;);););)

You're assuming your AD will be around to make this hire. He's under fire, again, for past state-of-the-art hiring decisions he made.

It must be difficult being RutgersAl. Most boards that he visits, ours included, treat him like a crazy, funny uncle that’s come for a visit. He’s harmless, doesn't make an obnoxious pest out of himself, and knows when to go home. The majority on the Rutgers board find him very annoying and wish he would just STFU with his predictions. I like the guy, but then what the hell do I know. I like most people.

When Rutgers found out that Schiano was the only coach that actually wanted the job the choice became easy.

The B1G needs a decent Rutgers in the conference. Could energize the NYC market. Looking forward to his hire.

Al is a good dude. Delusional about his beloved Scarlet Knights, but a real fan and a very decent poster.

What difference does it really make at Rutgers? Their stadium and other facilities are terrible and that's not going to change. They are a joke to New Jersey high school athletes and that's not going to change. Their Athletic Department is a continual clusterf*ck and, as we saw last week, that's not going to change. They play in the B1G East with 4 guaranteed losses and two probable losses every season and that's not going to change.

What the absolute best that Rutgers could hope for with Schiano? He keeps a few 3 star players home that would end up at Pitt, Wake Forest or Syracuse. With creative OOC scheduling, a weak Maryland and/or Indiana team in the East, and luck of the draw with the West division, that every 3 or 4 years they get 6 wins and lose the Pinstripe bowl. Schiano will be gone in 5 years and we'll be comparing him to Edsall II and Majors II.

That said, I'm happy we play them the final regular season game this year so we can rest up for the B1G Championship game.

You're #1 on my list Thomas ! My favorite poster on this site.

I’ve run the full gamut on you, from ignorant Wolverine fan boy, to lying trouble making troll, to just attention seeking fool. Receiving any accolade from you, even if sarcastic, is like receiving a kidney transplant from a bed wetter. Have a rainbow day.

Terrible career move
As opposed to what? If this happens, Schiano will have considerable security. He’ll get them to 5-6-7 wins a year and they’ll love him for it.

I suspect he’s been through the meat grinder and likely knows how good he had it at Rutgers. The only challenge will be raising the bar in the B1G East (at Rutgers...not Ohio State) vs the old Big East. It’s a much gnarlier animal than he’s used to as a college head coach.
