Greg Schiano to be named Rutgers Head Coach within 24 Hours

Not so fast my friend. Talks with Shiano have broken down over his demands for an indoor practice facility which needs approval of the Board of Governors and his salary demands which are beyond what RU can afford to pay. RU is the only B10 team without an indoor facility which hurts recruiting immensely and they still don’t get a full share of funding from the league. There is a booster involved in the negotiations so maybe he will take out his wallet, who knows? Or maybe they will move to a plan B, which seems to have worked forever at Temple.

Meanwhile passing the hat at FSU, boosters got 18-20 million to pay the buyout to "sheet can"the coach.,

If Schiano wants paid like he's a top 25 coach...yeah forget about it. He isnt one. I dont even know if he's a top 40 coach anymore. I mean he's taking over Rutgers.

to that end.....

With buzz continuing to grow about a Greg Schiano-Rutgers reunion, the former RU head coach met with university officials in Columbus, Ohio, for several hours Tuesday regarding the opening, nj.com‘s Steve Politi has reported. Instead of coming out of that meeting with its next head football coach, though, the university headed back to Piscataway dealing with what Politi described as “significant demands.”

What those “significant demands” are is unknown at the moment, according to Politi. From the report:

Schiano is believed to want significant improvements to the football infrastructure in Piscataway, including an indoor practice facility that is a common recruiting tool on every rival Big Ten campus and would likely move the team out the existing headquarters at the Hale Center.

It is likely that any project of that magnitude would need high-level university approval before it can be included in a contract with the coach. The next football coach’s contract will need Board of Governors approval, and the university would presumably need to call for a “special meeting” to approve any deal.

Rutgers recently upgraded its football locker rooms, weight room and outdoor practice fields with contributions from donors, but the price tag on field houses has soared into nine-digit territory at other conference schools.

In what direction the university will head is unclear. Butch Jones, who interviewed for the job late last week, is believed to be the backup plan if the Schiano talks implode, the website reported.

It’s clear, though, that Schiano’s return to the Scarlet Knights is the university’s top option

Butch Jones? So from Tennessee, where the fans had unreasonable expectations of being in the National Championship conversation every year, to Rutgers, where the fans have unreasonable expectations of winning more than 3 games every year. :)

I mean, RU should not be in this conference, no way, no how, from an athletic standpoint. I mean how dafuq did they even gain entry into the B1G without having in indoor practice facility? A recruiting tool?!? How about an absolute staple of a major D-1 football program. Kick em out!

They are in for recruiting territory and in-state subscription rate for BTN on cable networks.

I’ve run the full gamut on you, from ignorant Wolverine fan boy, to lying trouble making troll, to just attention seeking fool. Receiving any accolade from you, even if sarcastic, is like receiving a kidney transplant from a bed wetter. Have a rainbow day.

ROTFLMAO. "Kidney transplant from a bed wetter" has the message board goodness of a Bo Nickal move on Sammy Brooks.

This return of Schiano keeps getting more ridiculous by the hour. The Rutgers faithful are in all out bidding war against themselves. It’s like being the only person at an auction and you keep raising the price.

if he wants paid as a top 25 coach, he shouldn’t seek a job at a bottom 25 program.

Rutgers has to overpay to get anyone decent. If they want to pay what they paid Ash they'll just get another Ash.

If it's that bad, why not just ignore me ?

An excellent question Wolvie. I’m a firm believer in the First Amendment and everyone’s right to express their opinion no matter how foolish. I would be hard pressed to find a logical reason to ban anyone. Certainly not for displaying a lack intelligence or posting childish remarks on a sports board. This isn’t life or death so ignoring isn’t a matter of any import to me. Plus we’re i to ignore you just think of all the humor that I would miss!

Rutgers has an indoor facility but it’s a bubble. Schiano wants a new upgraded indoor building not a bubble.

Looks like that isn’t happening.

Is it the same bubble that's been on campus for at least 20 years? I remember playing lacrosse in it in high school in like 2003. It wasn't impressive then.

Yes. It was built in the 80s. That’s why Schiano is asking for a new indoor facility.

This tells me Schiano and RU are close to a deal. Could you imagine going from the head coach of Tennessee to being rejected for the same position at Rutgers? Better withdraw to save face.
If Rutgers doesn't give him what he's asking for, how does that equate to "being rejected"? This isn't some high school kid asking for a date. This is literally multi-million dollar negotiations.

Yeah, the last time Schiano asked for something it put Rutgers in hock for over $100mm. So Hobbs isn't any more intelligent than Mulcahy. Tell me I'm surprised.

Asking for a new indoor facility when the current one is outdated isn’t a bad thing. How about give him what he is asking for and get the fans to donate.

Fans were asked to donate for the expansion of Rutgers Stadium. How much did they raise? How much did Greg Brown pony up?

How much money do you think RutgersAl has?
It has a nice ring to it: The RutgersAl Practice Complex

Heard on ESPNU radio that Butch Jones pulled his name from consideration. May mean that Greg is close or that Butch woke up this AM and said "Rutgers??? What the F**K was I thnking?"
