Indiana Match Thread

And I thought Cortez wrestled well today. Was unfortunate to lose a point in the sequence I referenced above. Controlled action on feet. Rode well.

Today is not the day LP. I agree that Nick is going to end up going but give Cortez his due today.

He was 11-18 last year!

Only problem I have with review is they should be able to call continuous action. If it’s a takedown it should be 2 and 1.

174: Hall vs. Skatzka - P1

Skatzka snatches an ankle and catches Hall off balance and nearly gets the TD. Indiana challenges this but no-TD is upheld. Another really close review there. Hall comes back with an inside trip and goes up 2-0. Hall then uses a 2-on-1 tilt to pick up 4NF. Hall rides the rest of the period, 6-0

174: Hall vs. Skatzka - P2

Hall stands up for the escape, 7-0. Another TD and he's working for another turn. Stalling against IU then Hall uses a similar tilt. Then again and he's suddenly up 17-0. Hall wins by TF in 4:55 and 3:24 RT

PSU up 30-3 and this one is clinched

How does that work in the KYPSW contest?

From the rules posted by pawrestlersintn:

"When a PSU opponent forfeits a weight-class during a Dual, every FOS participant in that event will be awarded full point-value for the match (2 pts) and bonus (1 pt) [total = 3 pts]. This applies only to Forfeits where the opponent does not step onto the mat -- Injury Defaults and Disqualifications are not considered Forfeits (they will be counted as Falls, as noted in original text above)."

As the contest is being run on this board and TOS, you should interpret "FOS" as this board as well.

Was watching on delay, had to ignore BWI until it caught up. Glad to see Cenzo put the rumors to rest and grab 6 team points.

197: Cassar vs. Irick - P1

Cassar whips over the undersized Irick for the first TD, 2-0. Irick escapes after a :47 ride, 2-1. Cassar tacks on one more, switching from a single to a double, to take a 4-1 lead into the second

So what's up with Rypel? Anyone know? I liked that guy coming out of HS and he had a decent redshirt year.

197: Cassar vs. Irick - P2

Irick escapes after the first 30 seconds of the period, 4-2, but Cassar with a quick TD once they get to their get, 6-2. Irick hit with stalling. Irick with an escape, 6-3, and then a Cassar double to take a 8-3 lead into the third

Here's my favorite from June 2016

I don't know what it says about a poster who somehow keeps records of his past posts -- anal-retentive, self-obsessed, incredibly organized, whatever -- but that causes me concern.

197: Cassar vs. Irick - P3

Cassar escapes to start the period, 9-3. Then a snap down, circle around around TD and Cassar is up 11-3. Irick escapes, 11-4, but Cassar drives in for another couple before time expires. Cassar wins 16-5 with 3:1 RT

PSU up 40-3

Irick has mostly wrestled 184 this year and it kind of shows.

Yeah, I nearly bumped up the type of decision I thought Cassar would get if he wrestled Irick, in the KYPSW, and regret that I didn't. Oh well. Sometimes we each over think these things

Did Cassar look that much "quicker" and improved..... or was the Indiana guy just a lesser opponent?

OK.. I see is more like a 184.

285: Nevills vs. Miller - P1

Some back and forth for the first minute before Nevills scores first, 2-0. Miller escapes, 2-1, but Nevills begins working toward another TD and finally trips Miller back to the mat, 4-1.

285: Nevills vs. Miller - P2

Nevills escapes quick to go up 5-1. Nevills with a low double and gets the next TD, 7-1. He's riding now and working toward a turn but Miller continues to turn away. Nevills runs out of time before a turn

285: Nevills vs. Miller - P3

Miller escapes to start the period but Nevills brings him right back down for the TD, 9-2. Nevills builds his RT to 2:46 before Miller escapes again, 9-3. Miller hit with his second stall warning and Nevills wins 11-3 MD.

Penn State defeats Indiana, 44-3

He has not given up bonus to anyone including 2 top 10 guys he has faced. Has a win over 12 and another top 25 guy.

Cortez got a decision and controlled the match. 2 TDs to 0. Just shy of riding time. Screwed out of a point in another sequence. Match was not close despite the score. Was it reasonable to expect bonus? No.

I'm not asking you to get on board with Cortez as starter for rest of season. But no need for criticism when he did his job today. He wrestled like the top 10 to 15 guy he is most days.

Didn’t see it mentioned -

When it was 2-1, Nolf appear to bait his opponent into a leg attack, only to have Nolf do his new Secret Move - up and over to a body / headlock w his legs to get the back exposure TD & 4 NF ?!

Crowd was in awe ... poor Indiana kid had no idea what hit him & looked dazed — only to walk right into Nolf’s cement mixer for the fall.

Inhuman.

Bo’s pin was a thing of beauty too. Some custom move.

Almost looked like a typical, standard throw-by / go-behind, but last second, it looked like Bo just hung on to the kids arm, turned the kid’s upper body, found the headlock - all in the same motion & instantly had the kid on his back.

Someone describe Mark Hall’s First takedown. Not even sure what that was. Some fluid hi-lo move that looked amazing.

The creativity of these guys is just awesome.

I can’t imagine there were chants for Lee at the meet, maybe Jered was shushing his online critics saying free the lee, or maybe to Flo?

The second I saw him do it I 100% believed that it was aimed at his online critics. He wasn't dynamic today, but he did his job against a ranked opponent, dubious as that ranking might be. Hopefully the Scuffle will provide a little more clarity regarding the position. If Cortez struggles in what is always a competitive event, or Nick blows away the field it might be time to examine a move. Otherwise the plan to red shirt Lee will likely remain in place.

My point is that it is a major assumption that there is a "plan to red shirt Lee". I think the plan is just the opposite. The kid moved to SC a year early because he wanted to go this year. I think that if Nick Lee wants to go, and if he is beating Cortez substantially in the room, the plan is that the shirt comes off post Scuffle.
