Journeymen Collegiate Duals - Dec 21-22

I made that point earlier. Levi's reaction says a lot to me. He was pretty indifferent to the staff throwing a brick.
It was Levi who requested the brick. There was actually a bit of a delay before someone tossed the brick. That said....Levi never looked like he thought he was going to win the challenge.

Any idea why Nasir Bailey chose neutral in the 3rd period? Don't know much about Bailey's prowess from bottom, but seemed an odd decision. Maybe cost him the match?
That was asked earlier. Apparently he never chooses bottom? I haven't watch him before to confirm.

He would need a TD to win regardless. May as well spend 2 minutes trying to get it.

Got to see live the Missouri Match at 6:00 pm. Great opportunity to see the PSU team for row 3 of the highschool gym....very cool.

Question: who was the "country star" that was sitting on the PSU Bench. he had a PSU hat on and was even in the pictures when the trophy was handed out.

Michael Chandler UFC Fighter was wearing a Missouri Tigers Jersey........... Aaron Brooks in attendance also. Great opportunity for a Nashville guy to see PSU wrestle and to be so close to the action........

Wish he were much more of an offensive gazelle than has been the case to this point in his PSU career. Have heard him talk the offensive talk more than once. But have yet to see him consistently walk that walk. He's a very average offensive wrestler. Certainly not great, maybe above average on a good day, but "average" probably fits him best overall. Waits for the opponent to make a mistake, then tries to use quickness to take advantage. But using his natural quickness and agility from the get-go to force opponents into making mistakes has never seemed to be his style and, at this point in his career, likely never will be.
I can't believe we're still complaining about Beau Bartlett in 2024. I can't think of a finer young man to represent the PSU wrestling team. Imagine how spoiled this fanbase must be when an 83-18 career record and a likely 3X AA is considered 'average'. 33 of those 83 wins were of the bonus variety, which is a 40% clip. We should all be so ordinary.

Beau also has earned bonus in 6 of his 9 bouts this season, including a major and a pin yesterday, and scored 2 falls in the NCAA tournament last season. But no need to allow facts to spoil the narrative.

I've tried that but Byers is 30 sec ahead. That's like watching s movie and the and the words and lips aren't in sync, just annoying but I do enjoy Byers.
Depending on which was ahead it is easy to pause either Lionvision or youtube to synch up the feeds. I do it all the time.

I do have to laugh, early in football season they had a web page devoted to synching the feeds. It said click here for instructions. I was thinking they had some new tech to synch them up, nope, it literally said, pause the one ahead until they are synched…..

IIRC, another poster identified him as Warren Zeiders. He’s a Hershey native who now lives in Nashville. He recently performed at the BJC with Jelly Roll

Wow, look at the still clips from Pyles and remember that this was sudden victory and the second he established control, a takedown should have been called. I'm fine with how it played out, but Missouri/O'Toole certainly would have had nothing to bitch about had they given the takedown and the win to Levi. I have to agree with Pyles that if anything, it looks a bit more like a takedown in the still frames than it did in "real life", but they did have the benefit of replay, slow motion and still frame. It will just make him hungrier I'm guessing. Great showing by PSU in general.

Like others, I’m oddly comfortable with Levi’s razor-thin loss to a fifth-year senior and two-time national champ, especially in December. The match was terrific and I’m fine with the call. More than anything, I like that our oak-strong stud now has a mini Vision Quest and chip on his shoulder come March. My Saturday night money is all in for Levi.

As soon as the step over leg was in it was control and should have been a TD. Levi was at risk of losing control when KOT was being awarded the TD but control at that moment was still Levi's. The fact Levi was at risk of losing control has zero to do with anything since the match was over once Levi put that leg in.
As far as anybody being OK with it, the sequence was called incorrectly.

KOT head popping though looked to me like a guy executing a reversal from a rider getting too high. I don’t think there have been 5 takedowns from that position in History but millions of reversals.

Not meant to pile it on on Beau, but his bonus points were against #121, 195, 72, 152, 25, 38 ranked wrestlers, which is all fine and dandy. But he should be bonusing everyone he wrestles not named Mendez, Alirez, and Hardy and not go overtime against a #94 ranked wrestler like Fongaro. I mean, it should be easier to bonus people now that it's a 3-point TD (instead of a 2).

This has been all over twitter, but I haven’t seen it here yet. Pretty crazy how similar the position was. If anything, Levi had legs in more. Won Yianni a title. Also, the rule change last year was only about rear standing. So it came down to refs interpretation of reaction time.

"Not to pile on Beau, but let me pile on Beau anyway because his bonus point wins are not against top tier opponents and therefore his efforts are a disappointment to me"

Holy shit, what are we even doing?

Agreed, who's to say that he should do this or should do that? He's had a spectacular career, came within a feather of being a national champ last year and is one of three favorites to win one this year. He'll be a three-time All American. If we have to complain that he's not doing enough, geez Louise......

Having met most of them at this point—Beau is my favorite person on the team. He’s had a tremendous career, contributes mightily to a championship level team culture and will go incredibly far in life. Love that dude.

You guys know you can like and support someone while also being critical of their performance at times? No one is saying BB isn’t a great wrestler. They are saying he wrestles down to his competition at times. He has these close matches sometimes against guys he should beat handily. I don’t think this is one of those because Edmond is extremely tough but Beau did have a head scratcher earlier this year. Almost never matters because he has ice water in his veins and wins pretty much every close match but it’s ok to say you expect him to win by more against inferior competition.

I have to ask “what are we even doing” multiple times on this board. Our crystal ball points prediction will now be up above 170 as Davis and Barr move up and we’re nitpicking a returning finalist.

Beau bonusing only lower ranked guys - a totally normal trend for every top wrestler save freaks like Nolf, DT, Ruth, Nickal, etc - is a point of emphasis.

Guess what - check the Wrestlestat for almost every “stud” on other teams. They bonus the lower ranked guys and have close matches against the top guys and some lower ranked guys. Hell, Gabe Arnold, who many are anointing as the next Lance Palmer (I.e. best of all time), has the exact same trend line. And I’m predicting he will never sniff a national final.

The issue with Beau wrestling like that is an overzealous "grabbing the singlet" call and he loses that match.

At this point Beau is Beau, for whatever reason, some matches he is ok with being very conservative against guys he should demolish. He has ice water in his veins.

My issue isn’t that he doesn’t bonus ranked guys it’s that he goes into OT against a guy like Fongaro who’s ranked around #100.

It is definitely a relative thing. Much like the unwarranted criticizm every other high level defensive or low scoring wrestler gets here. Especially when most everyone else in the lineup is getting techs and pins.

It is foolish to think Beau is a bad wrestler. But his love of 1-1 OT matches can be frustrating to watch, especially against low ranked opponents.

You really think he likes the OT matches? I bet that is top of his list to improve upon. Saying and doing are different things. We all have things we wish we did better and work toward improvement. I love Beau for his demeanor and big smile. The type of athlete any of us would love to have as our kid.

It's totally insane. I enjoy the banter on this board and would gladly share a beverage with anyone here, but the entitlement some fans have would make Jerry Jones blush.

Because you excluded any context on Beau's bonus points and were being snarky about it when you said: "...But no need to allow facts to spoil the narrative..."

I wouldn't have contributed to it if it weren't for the snarky part.

Poor choice of wording on my part. I don't think he enjoys being in OT matches. But he does find himself in a number of them.

Like I said, it's a relative thing. We have been lucky enough to have a bunch of generational talents that Cael keeps plugging into the lineup. It's truly the most nit picky of first world problems.

He is clearly one of the most beloved guys on the team and a leader.

We Are... Spoiled.

I’ve seen hundreds and hundreds of matches but never seen that call before if Keegan has his head out no question I don’t think it was the right call

I don't think anyone likes OT matches, even when you're supremely confident that you can or will win them. My younger son was a much better than average high school wrestler and he spent a season wrestling for a good D2 program in college before deciding that he didn't have time for things like school and a social life. Over the course of his wrestling career, he was surely involved in at least 15 or 20 OT matches and the only match that he EVER lost in OT was at regionals during his senior year after suffering a very badly sprained ankle in regulation of the same match. He simply had a better gas tank and more heart than anyone else who took him to OT (and obviously they were all better than average high school wrestlers as well) and yet he hated OT matches and would have done anything to avoid them. Some kids (like Beau) are supremely confident of their ability to score, but are still maddeningly hesitant to pull the trigger unless they feel that they have the perfect shot set up. It is what it is and Beau's still one of my favorite PSU wrestlers.

Classic case of Penn State Pessimism: we go 29-1, only loss to a 2x champ in OT on a controversial call, and yet ...

Every silver lining must have a cloud.
