Journeymen Collegiate Duals - Dec 21-22

Of course our Nittany Lions are the winners of the day.......looked fantastic in every way, but I must say I loved the commentator for the PSU-Mizzou match. Cliff Fretwell, great job! He is knowledgeable, not pretentious, and very funny. I really enjoyed his call of the match. Hope we see more of him in the future.
Guess I'll have to rewatch and listen to him. I'm so used to lousy announcing that I put Byers on and turned down the tv

First time listening to Cliff call a match and I’ve gotta say, he’s fun to listen to. He brings a lot of fun and colorful commentary to the matches which made them more entertaining IMO. His opinions were well balanced and informed. Him, JB (not Burroughs), Rock, and Shane Sparks are the guys I prefer to listen to call a match as of now. They all bring that just right combination of energy, knowledge and experience to the broadcasts

I'd have to watch it again, but did KOT still have a whizzer in when Levi had boots in? That's really the only thing I could see preventing calling 3.
he had the underhook still, which is stronger that a whizzer.

he needed to (actually) get the far boot in and flatten KOT to the point where it was clear the underhook had no strength to it. He was not close to doing that (which is why KOT didn’t have much of a problem popping out the back).

Also first time watching Kurt McDirt since his cadet days and he looks even more mean and quick now than he did back then. He immediately established dominance over Masud with that inside trip. It was interesting to see him take such exception to the way Masud lined up. I can’t say that I’ve ever seen anyone line up from top quite like that so I’m not sure on the particulars rules wise, but Kurt really didn’t like it and he made sure the ref knew his thoughts

Definitely seems like there's a big emphasis on hard rides, back points and pins.
Byers had SVN on post match. He said there is a contest between the guys for most falls across the season.

The past couple years, it seemed like a couple guys would ride for several minutes and not score. This year is different. Some tilts are being used, but there is definitely an uptick in some of the more unpleasant turns (bow and arrow specifically).

I don't believe Haines had control nor do I believe KOT had control.
when the takedown is called, Levi had basically conceded. KOT had both ankles and his head was between the ankles, no longer trapped under the body. even Haines wasn’t arguing there wasn’t control at that point.

Fretwell is always great but he was a bit mellow tonight. He’s always high energy and says a bunch of funny shit while still being extremely knowledgeable. I think he usually does some commentating at Super 32 and by the end he’s a bit loopy and saying stuff that always has me laughing. I definitely wish we got him doing more matches. I would love to have Sparks and Fretwell both on the call. That would be fun

I made that point earlier. Levi's reaction says a lot to me. He was pretty indifferent to the staff throwing a brick.

I don’t think Levi had a td. It was close but he never established control. Good match overall though. I wish Levi took a few more chances from neutral. Definitely think this loss is a good thing for Haines in the long run. I feel like this match goes the other next time and Levi is going to go beast mode the rest of the season.

Pretty great day overall. 1 loss in 3 duals is just complete domination. Davis looked good today. Kasak’s last match was possibly the best match I’ve seen him wrestle this season. You can see Barr’s confidence just growing every match. He’s a problem. Would’ve liked to see him against Sinclair or Elam though. Lilledahl isn’t going to light up the scoreboard this season but I don’t really see anyone who I would pick to beat him either. His wrestling IQ is off the charts and he is so good in every position. Almost impossible to get to and especially to finish cleanly on him. Love watching Van Ness. He’s going to give up points but he’s going to score a bunch more. His top game has jumped levels. He is straight mean on top now. I wish BB would stop playing with fire but at this point he is who he is. It sucks that MM only got 1 match. He’s hands down my favorite guy to watch. Overall an almost perfect day. So so close to Haines winning and making it a truly perfect day
I think KOT is getting the yania treatment, if close he will get the call. Joey sez hey.

he definitely wanted the brick just because, but i dont think he was ever super close to scoring.

ironically, you see that position a ton in the lower levels because kids try to step over whizzers all the time.

an underhook is a super strong position. you have to demonstrate a ton of control if you're going to get a takedown without being behind the arms at all.

When you're looking to break 172 things gotta change!😉

Levi called for the brick. He'll deal with the call, but he sure as hell wasn't okay with it.
Byers thought he was waving his hand as to say "challenge if you want to."

Either way, those 2 are likely destined to meet in March. And Cael and Co have 3 months to work on a solution.

GD, Bartlett is like a damn gazelle.
Wish he were much more of an offensive gazelle than has been the case to this point in his PSU career. Have heard him talk the offensive talk more than once. But have yet to see him consistently walk that walk. He's a very average offensive wrestler. Certainly not great, maybe above average on a good day, but "average" probably fits him best overall. Waits for the opponent to make a mistake, then tries to use quickness to take advantage. But using his natural quickness and agility from the get-go to force opponents into making mistakes has never seemed to be his style and, at this point in his career, likely never will be.

McHenry is lightening quick! I haven't seen much of him before, but I like his aggressiveness.
McHenry looked fantastic. Fast … hyper fast ….. and mean! Everyone on the team crowded in close in to our corner for this “extra match”. If that was his last college match . . . he can say that he went out the right way. Didn’t see who if anyone got OW, but, Barr woulda been my choice.

So between Binghamton/Ark LR/Missouri, they went 1-29 against PSU today. The one win was from one of the best NCAA wrestlers of the last decade, in OT. This is quite the golden age, there’s not much any team can do against what’s being run out there.
I was a Redskins fan the year Miami beat them in the superbowl to complete their perfect season. From then to now I have never seen dominance like Cael is delivering this season 🤯

I've tried that but Byers is 30 sec ahead. That's like watching s movie and the and the words and lips aren't in sync, just annoying but I do enjoy Byers.

So, since Carl can't coach, Levi is basically doomed come March. KOT probably wins by major at NCAAs, if not tech fall.

Looks like Rokfin took down the videos.
Yeah, the video went private as I was in the middle of catching up on the Mizzou match, LOL. I did get to see the fantastic scramble in the Levi-KOT match before they turned it off. It was unfortunate, but I think it was the right call. If anything, the KOT TD might have been a smidge quick, but he was a second from popping his head out to where it would have been no doubt, so he would have been screwed by the refs if they overturned it when he was clearly about to get it. Levi will get him in Philly.
