Nebraska dual thread - Jan. 17

I was referring to the attempted throw. Way too early. He wrestles him again he takes him down three times and keeps it cl

On the bright side, SVN hopefully changes the result in March…learning experience
First shot he had should have been a take down he missed a lot in that match wrestled out of control a little

Definitely will work on boots prevention. Bottom man can get gassed very quickly

A note about last night's Nebraska dual, fyi (not knowing what he weighed in at, Kerk did look to be slimmer than usual to me): "And even though he was fighting off some sickness from earlier in the week, Greg Kerkvliet still piled up Penn State’s third straight bonus point win of the night with a 20-2 technical fall." https://nittanycentral.com/penn-state-wrestling-news-nebraska-full-results/
I think Kerk was nearly 10 lbs lighter than his last match. He was well over 250 previously. Could be the illness, maybe he varies his weight a little based upon the opponent? Probably the prior.

As a fan, all I want is for all of our guys to win all their matches by bonus. I don’t think that’s too much to ask.
As THE leading member of the Fire Cael Caucus, I’m going to add this data point to our end of season performance review. Our starters have already lost 5 dual matches which is, as you know, unacceptable

heres a question for all of us,MM had that bar and scored 4 for the tech but still had the bar in trying to pin the kid,why did the ref stop the match since he still had the pinning move in and was trying to turn him again?if he let the move go thats when the ref stops the match I think this ref did it twice!

I thought Mitch disengaged and then the ref called it.

Nebraska might be apparel national champs.

Terrific match. Not worried at all about the losses. Ridge is elite (past defeats and transitive crap mean squat) and Van Dee’s tough at home. I don’t rationalize any loss other than to say the other wrestler was better those 7 minutes. Re-rack the bout, and outcomes may flip.
As for our freshmen, if Luke is lightning, Josh is thunder.

Does stuffing Jordan Williams put you in hodge contention? If that the case we got a whole lineup of hodge contenders
Lol. He never was in Hodge contention with a 4x champ and an Olympic champ in the field, and several other returning champs behind them.

But my point was "Shayne hasn't beaten anyone with a pulse" is demonstrably false. And that's not what your reply focused on.

I kinda figured. We PSU fans love to create a little drama because it so rarely presents itself on the mat for us these days, .ol.
The only heat all night did not come through on TV. Luke got plenty of boos when he did the finger twirl after his match. But he didn’t GAF and followed it with the singlet flex.

Yup. I whiffed on that one. Curious that SVN slowed his attack rate considerably after he failed to finish some shots in the first. Hopefully he learns from this.
I texted my buddies after 0-0 first that it was a huge win for Ridge. We've watched him since his childhood and he's so good with a lead or even super close matches. Have to get that first TD. He didn't seem to attack as hard after not getting that first one.

I thought Van Ness was aggressive but defensive at the same time. The way he was looking up and reaching came across like he didn't want to make a mistake. Just my take on it. I think first period he went all out then tightened up second and third

Lovett is a tough match up for Van Ness. Lovett is a big 149.

I would be concern that Lovett is just a bad matchup for Van Ness. Kasak power and strength was able to counter Lovett last year.

Hmm, not sure about that. SVN is definitely more finesse than bulldozer, but it took Kasak 2 "feels" and losses to Lovett last year before he was able to reverse the result at NCAAs. He lost to Lovett in the dual 7-3 and at the B10 tourney 4-0, then figured it out and put a 10-1 MD on him in March.

I believe last night was SVN's first ever match with Lovett. I wasn't surprised by the result. Lovett is a funky, very good wrestler who was the #1 seed at NCAAs last year.

I suspect Lovett will come to regret that SVN got this hands-on assessment opportunity before post-season matchups that really matter.

SVN’s match left me scratching my head. He didn’t do what he normally does, even in the first period. Didn’t really push the pace and try to wear Lovett out.

Wonder if he’s coming off a bout of illness like Kerk.
Sometimes you gotta give the other guy some credit. Lovett is extremely dangerous and difficult to wrestle, especially the first time.

I was impressed with SVN’s work off bottom in the second. The score didn’t reflect how close the match was. That’s a toss up every time imo. Great top 3 at this weight with Henson, SVN, and Lovett.
