With the final season upon us and only 10 days away from the first episode of the final season, I thought it might be fun to place our bets on the ending (assuming we get a real one). Simple question, one vote - who sits on the Iron Throne at the end?

1. Arya Stark

2. Bran Stark

3. Cersei Lannister

4. Danaerys Targaryen

5. Jaime Lannister

6. Jon Snow

7. Sansa Stark

8. Tyrion Lannister

The show has really been about Jon and to a slightly lesser extent Dany from the beginning. They got the most air time and the books are essentially named after Jon (ASOIAF). He's gotta be a heavy favorite.

Yeah. I mean he’s the obvious (probably too obvious) answer ..... so it probably won’t be him.

But imo it would be disappointing if it wasn’t him. But Arya would be cool

Warning potential spoilers: well not really, but I still don’t want to ruin anything for anyone who’s just watching the show and enjoying week to week.

You are correct sir. After reading the books (those written, ahem Mr Martin), the only really interesting questions remaining (in my mind) were what the inevitable relationship would be between Jon and dany, bran’s future as the crow, whether he could survive the war between the living and dead, how (not whether) the others would die/return to sleep—the dragons being the key to that war with the turned dragon definitely complicating my otherwise simple theories—and the re-shuffling of houses/kingdoms, Stark, Targ and Lanister in particular.

But yeah, jon and dany have been and will ultimately be the keys.

I’m also paricularly interested in what will happen with the following:
the inevitable facing of the hound and the Franken-mountain

The role of the faceless man—I forget his name—in Arya’s ultimately victorious battle royale with the entire world that’s pissed her off

Catelyn stark, the undead

Samwell tarley and whatever maester-science he conjures up to help defeat the others and/or the turned dragon.

Future annual returns for the iron bank, with every intention of insider trading, if possible.

Pardon the typos. I did this on a device and apple makes a mockery of everything I type.

My one concern is that Arya gets too clever for her own good with the Faceless stuff. And yes - Hound v Mountain will be amazing...

I'm not sure that Bran and The Night King aren't the same person/creature. No real good theory why I think this and could be way off the mark, other than he's been real cagey and smarmy with his knowledge of what has and what will happen. It would make sense that he survives and rebuilds everything (Bran the Builder).

However, I think only one person, living or dead survives this ordeal. Samwell Tarly has had a golden horseshoe up his ass through 7 seasons. I believe he is the only one left standing.

A lot of folks agree with your first theory. Curious whether it helps or hurts that it parallels the matrix, but that’s probably why I question bran’s survival.

Excited to see. Much more excited to read, whenever that becomes possible.

Edit: but I also think your point about bran the builder is a good one, since the game (and history) repeats itself. The world doesn’t likely end at the end of 10. So it’s really where does it begin again from that last episode. Fun stuff!

By the way, I think it’s interesting that you combine two questions: who wins the game of thrones and who sits atop the iron throne. Between kings/queens and “king-makers,” I think it’s very likely those questions might have different answers.

Yeah, that occurred to me after posting the poll. I get what you’re saying, but here I’m talking about the Iron Throne (or it’s equivalent). Certainly, there could be several ‘winners’ (Varys, Tyrion, Melisandre) who wouldn’t sit on the Throne necessarily.

Have a buddy who also said Gendry

If we’re talking ‘legit’ heirs, I think it’s either Jon Snow or Dany. Snow is a bastard but so is Gendry, and Snow has birthright claim since he’s the only living son of the first born child of the legitimate king. Gendry has Robert’s bloodline but his rule was ill gotten. Dany gets it if Snow’s bastard status is an issue.

I went with Bran because he’s the Vegas odds favorite at +220. Note that I’m an unsuccessful gambler.

If I were going solely with my head, I’d say Jon. His combined genetics, even temperament for leading, etc make the most sense. Thigh Thrones often isnt concerned which such things, which is part of why it’s great. However, Martin not having already written the ending may give HBO the latitude for a more traditional ending.

I have a feeling if Martin finished this story before it became mainstream, it would end differently than it’s going to.

Gendry is a bastard, however he's the eldest surviving son of the last king so should be in line for the succession. Knowing Martin, betting on a dark or bittersweet ending seems likely. They kill each other off? Gendry marries Dany as a political marriage despite the Jon/Dany union? A political marriage between Cersei and Jon lol?

Hot Pie for days. One of the culinary treats at our April 14 GOT soiree will be a large chicken pot pie, complete with faux fingers my wife found in a our local party favors store.

Also bought a couple bottles of "White Walker" scotch, manufactured by Johnny Walker.

Finally, I found several different types of GOT beer on sale at our local Total Wine store. "Mother of Dragons" beer, "Queen of the Seven Kingdoms" beer, etc. They were brewed by Ommegang Brewery, which is based in Cooperstown. Went to Ommegang Brewery once, when I was back there to see Gwynn and Ripken, Jr. getting inducted into the HOF.

I'm going with Jon. He's already been brought back from the dead, fer Chrissake. But knowing Martin, it could be any one of the people listed in this poll.

And Jon’s real name is Aegon Targaryen.

I believe somewhere in the books that is true. Although under another name He is also committed to the nights watch, becomes re-builder of The Wall.
idk
Danni becomes the ruler of the iron throne, unites the kingdoms and the circle continues.
