Gama of Thrones Episode 4

Yeah I don't know if the location was explicitly stated but it's a castle, and I don't think it's King's Landing. If it were Qyburn would have been there to supervise his giant crossbow thingy and there would have been reaction shots of Cersei.

they showed the castle, which was highgarden, in an earlier scene, the one where jamie gave bronn his gold.

the battle was some weeks(?0 later, when the lanister army having returned to the area near kings landing, in a long line. Apparently, as tarly said, the gold is safely in kings landing. No castle was shown in the battle scene

Best (and shortest!) episode of the season though not without a big issue for me - both Jaime and Bronn avoiding certain death at the last possible second is just something this show would never do in the past. Certainly, the story is more interesting with these guys alive (and probably captured) but it's again way too convenient for me (also think it was Dickon - smirk! - who saved Jaime; not Bronn).

The best stuff outside of Dany whooping ass on everything (and not heeding the advice of Jon and really terrible war strategist Tyrion) was Arya showing off her badassedness to everyone in Winterfell - note the look on Littlefinger's face; between her and Bran, that guy should be very fearful of his life given he helped plot against Ned. And Arya's list is absolutely a defined thing - not sure why she needs to drop it. She's been working on it since Season 2 (I don't know that she's going to add to it at this point though) and there are still some very interesting names on it....

??! I don't recall anyone saying that the gold looted from Highgarden was already inside the walls of the Red Keep.

Cersei and that smarmy emissary from the Iron Bank had a conversation in which the emissary made it clear that the Iron Bank would be happy to help with another loan, etc. "When the gold arrives," presumably at the Red Keep. Seems to me he made it plain the gold was still in transit. Beyond that, the footage of Jaime unlocking the cart in which the gold was being transported, tossing a sack to Bronn, and then re-locking the cart, seemed pretty contemporaneous with Dany's attack.[/QUOTE]

just before the battle, tarly tells jamie the gold has been delivered to kings landing

At the beginning when Bronn gets his sack-o-gold they were outside Highgarden because Bronn references the now unoccupied keep. The final battle takes place outside King's Landing because Tulley states that they need to get the troops across Blackwater Rush before nightfall.

Sam's dad tells Jamie and Bronn, "All the gold's safely through the gate at King's Landing." Then he say, "We need to get the last of these wagons over the Blackwater Rush before nightfall."

That pretty much sets the stage as far as location goes for both the gold and the battle. The Blackwater Ruch is the river outside Kings Landing.

And upon further review, it was Bronn who saved Jamie. Since he has no armor to drag him down, he has a decent shot at saving Jamie.
Thanks, Roar More. I missed that statement. Did that come just before Randyll Tarly said something about flogging people to put a sense of urgency into others about speeding up? That guy is just full of the milk of human kindness.

horrible battlefield tactics by Dani.

She has a dragon, just go up and down the battleline and torch everything and don't bother taking casualties.

I disagree. Sure she took some casualties but these guys live to fight. You gotta let them fight. If not they will eventually start fighting each other or the unsullied. These guys have been waiting a long time to kick some Westeros ass with their fancy armor. They will not complain one bit about a few casualties.

It is the Unsullied casualties I would more worry about. They are a limited resource and their numbers seem to be falling fast after the siege at Highgarden.

Man, a lot happened in a pretty short episode.

1. Theon made it back to dry land.
2. We got to see the Dragonstone cave.
3. Jon Snow looks like a guy who is getting close to bending the knee.
4. Bran proved he can "see" things, but also that he is pretty damn irritating.
5. Dany is done screwing around.
6. Drogon likely convinced Sir Jaime that he has been on the wrong side. Expect a bent knee.after they pull him out of the lake.
7. Arya Stark is a BADASS! Who needs Neymeria?

I liked it all, but I think I liked No. 7 the best.

On again at 8:30 EDT......

I couldn't believe so much went on so early. I was floored.

Do we know who knocked Jamie into the water? I don't know. Will he "sink or swim"? I think he swims.

Arya is badass, but to what good (or not)? It was a great scene. Syrio Forel would be very proud.

Geez, you'd think by now Sansa would think to get a raven to John at Dragonstone: "Dear John, things are quiet here at Winterfell, ski season has started, and just fyi Bran is now some kind of god and knows the entire history of everybody plus he know what's going to happen in the future. On the downside, though, Bran has become a selfish brat and won't do anything but sit around and make people wait on him hand and foot. What do you suggest I do about him?"

There is a rumor out there that Bran is the Night King

Arya Stark fared better against Brienne than she did against the Waife. The Waife appears to have been the biggest bad@ss on the show. Her only weakness was that she could not fight in the dark.

Conspiracy theory number 1: Did we see Arya die? I went back and watched that episode. The Waife's face was indeed there, and just as importantly, Jaqen H'ghar did seemingly give her a nod of approval when she said she was "Arya Stark"......

Which episode?

Had Danys sent the Dothraki to Highgarden previously? If not, I'm not clear how they could get there that fast.

On the other hand, clearly some time has passed because a character says the gold is inside the walls of the Red Keep, and Jamie, who was personally supervising the transportation of the money, is back at Highgarden.

The gold is key to plot because the Lannisters will need to buy a replacement army. Cersei uses the gold to pay back the Iron Bank, which will then lend her more money to her mercenaries from the Golden Company.

I'm not clear on how much of the Lannister army is left. They lost some at Casterly Rock, they lost a lot more at Highgarden. Previews of next week show the remnants of the army surrendering to the Dragon Queen, so presumably they work for her now. So maybe the Golden Company and Euron's navy is all Cersei's got now?

And BTW I think the victory at Highgarden means Danys and the Dothraki can also rescue the Unsullied, so maybe Grey Worm and Missandei live happily ever after and raise lots of little worms.
Uh, isn't Grey Worm missing the necessary equipment to accomplish that job.....

Flying straight into the scorpion was a dumb move after she saw the spear from the first shot sail right passed her. She should have wasted it then and not even given an opportunity for the second shot.

Unless I was hallucinating, right before the battle there was discussion of the fact that the gold was now safely within the city walls and reference to the fact that the elements of the Lannister Army present were serving as a rear guard.

The gold is definitely inside the Gates of the red keep, unfortunately. Randyll Tarly said it directly to Jaime. It was a clear demonstration that significant time had passed since the beginning of the episode.

The showwriters have said since season 1 that timing between won't be and can't be drawn out like the books. Time passes between scenes. Significant time passes between scenes. If you can't get past that, you're missing a great show.

I had the same thought. The thing isn't designed to turn 180 degrees. Circle around and flame broil it from the rear, problem solved. Dragon pilot school 101. I'm glad that Drogon will apparently be OK but I sure hope she doesn't make another mistake like that. Definitely rooting for the dragons at this point as horrific as they are.

Wrong, it is one a 360 degree pivot so it can turn around. Dani had never encountered it before, but did see Bronn turn it, Drogon can't spin on a pin head either. His biggest tactical advantages are: his speed, his scales, and his fire breath. Agility is not a skill dragons excel at.

There is no doubt some dragons will die.

That assumes she knows how it works and could locate exactly where the shot came from. They did a nice job counter weighting the thing so that is can be spun around and easily aimed. Too bad they thought to provide their main army with only ONE.

Yep. That's when it happened. You can't let your attention stray for a second.

The after show, which you can get when you watch the show "on demand," pointed out how some of the designs on the cave wall matched the designs of the body parts the white walkers laid out.

Creepy.

After seeing what Drogon could do, you have to think the Night's King will have SOME kind of strategy up his sleeve for dealing with dragons. Otherwise, those battles are gonna be extremely short lived. Maybe the giants will turn out to be good spear chuckers..

Ditto for dealing with dragon glass swords. Did you see what one blow of a dragon glass sword did to the White Walker? Shattered him into smithereens. They gotta have SOME kind of strategy for dealing with that.

He said the gold arrived safely at King's Landing.

Am I the only one that thought Bronn's number was up? Dude has like 9 lives in one show.

When Jaime and Bron are leaving Highgarden they show the army marching towards huge monoliths off in the distance. During the battle, they show the monoliths up close, but slightly behind where the battle takes place. I didn't catch it until last night.

Someone help me out here. When Bran and Littlefinger are talking, Littlefinger mentions chaos, Bran interrupts him and says; Chaos is a ..........???? Letter? I didn't hear it properly and have no idea what was said nor what was meant. Can anyone clear this up for me?

'Ladder' - its a quote from Littlefinger to Varys in an episode a few seasons ago. Only Varys would have known about the quote. It's a great scene...

Don't forget they DO have giants. They showed then in the opening scene of this season. Also recall when the wildlings attacked castle black, one of the giants fired a large ass bow and arrow up to the top of it so I would have to guess that definitely one dragon is going to go down at some point. Question then becomes does a WW dragon still breath fire or will it shoot out some type of ice instead

I see doom in the future for the dragons. Drogon was nearly killed from Bronn manning one spear catapult, I can't imagine the dragon's having luck against 100 catapults in King's Landing or any other fortified castle.
I be shocked if at least 1 dragon isn't dead before show is over.
Maybe this is how Dorn was able to resist the Targarians? They had these weapons

Catapults shoot boulders or large rocks, sometimes burning pitch - they do not shoot bolts. What you say in GoT was referred to as a 'scorpion' but in reality is referred to as a ballista. Know your medieval weaponry. ;)
