Southern Scuffle FINALS - Discussion and Results

Great match by Cenzo, really impressive double to end the second. Also nice job fighting off a freight train of a double in the first.

188 points with two bouts left. Going to be difficult to beat 198.
Nolf is one BADASS assassin. He stood there quietly, hands on his knees for two full minutes before the match started without moving or twitching. Like a Zen Master or something out of a Bruce Lee movie. Then threw a switch and became a hangman or guillotine operator, taking off Finesilver's head in one fall swoop.
I noticed that and I could not help but think to myself how much I would rather see that than the Ramos stare. It seems much classier.

this is why Kutler didn't shoot last time

174 Final:
Mark Hall vs. #2 seed Jordan Kutler (Lehigh) (ranked #5 in the country)

A major would tie the top team score. A TF or a pin would get the record for PSU. That's a tough challenge with Kutler.

Hall defeated Kutler, 3-2, in the PSU - Lehigh dual

Per 1
Not much thru 1. Hall shoots, blocked. Kutler with a headlock, Hall gets out. Kutler in on a shot, but Hall counters and comes around for the TD, 2-0. Hall breaks Kutler down. Kutler tries to get to his feet, Hall prevents that.. RT over 1 min. End. RT at 1:15 for Hall

Per 2
Hall takes bottom. OOB with 1:37 left. Hall stands, and OOB with 1:28 left. Hall tries to sit out, and gets out, 3-0. Hall working on Kutler's head. They both are trying to set up a shot, but nothing happens. Kutler shoots and Hall avoids it. End. RT at 31 sec for Hall

Per 3
Kutler takes bottom. Kutler stands, Hall takes him back down. RT over 1 min. Kutler to his feet again, Hall on a single, and they are OOB with 1:09 left. Spiral ride by Hall, and he breaks Kutler down. Under 1 min. Hall tries for a cradle, nothing. Kutler tries to stand, broken down. Hall with a figure 4. Stall warning Kutler with under 10 sec. 2:30+ in RT makes it a 4-0 win for Mark Hall

PSU finishes 1 point below Ok. State's record of 198

Bummer. Out of curiosity, when the pokes hit that 198 score:
1 - what was the overall tourney strength - bettter, worse, the same
2- how did they fair nationally that year - champs, individual champs?

TIA

Good tourney. The big five all looked great. Super impressed with Shakur, hope he gets OW. Liked Nick Lee, can’t wait to watch him next 4 years.

Nevills and Keener had a disappointing tourney but I think they both bounce back especially Big Nick.

Cassar had an ok tourney but was outshined by Shakur.

Verkleeren was a pleasure to watch. Need to see more of Berge. Anyone know why he didn’t wrestle in Midlands?

Hopefully Cutch and Cortez heal up. I think both lost their chances at starting because of injury and because there are clearly better wrestlers at their weights.

Schnupp hasn’t gotten any better since day 1 in my opinion and I realize he’s giving 100% and I give him a lot of credit. Hopefully there’s some legs to the transfer talk.

Great way to start the new year!

OW? Rasheed? Nolf? Zain? Gfeller?

I expect that kind of domination out of Zain and Nolf so I don't give them OW. This was just another day for them.

Rasheed bonused his way through and pinned his way through the quarter, semis, and the final. And he was unseeded. I give it to Shakur.

Scuffle tournament strength, I would guess, wasn't markedly different.

OSU last year had 8 AA's and 1 champ.
