U20 and U23 WTT

Not against it personally, but that still has drawbacks. It adds yet another step to the qualifying process, which means more travel, expenses, training, etc.

Thinking on this a bit more(I do like your best-of-3 idea)...

If timelines for both(Srs and U23) are to remain as is, how about instead of just giving the spot to a top 3 age-eligible finisher from Srs, they get a pass to best-of-three finals at U23 WTT instead?

This would still incentive wrestlers to try and make the Sr team, while allowing the U23' WTT tournament to actually decide the team. Would also keep the matches to a minimum for those trying to make both teams.

May have to change it a bit, as "true 3rd" Sr team isn't decided until Final X(after U23 tourny). Could just go top age-eligible placer at the Open gets a pass to finals of U23's.
I’d be cool with that, especially since there’s no U23 category at the Open.

But they’re separate teams. And finishes at seniors can be as much about draw as anything, especially on the back side.

If you want to make the U23 team, you go win U23 trials. Otherwise U23 trials are just silly.
All these teams are related and designed to give the best guys the upper hand. Not the most deserving necessarily. Olympic and world teams are different but are used interchangeably on those years to give advantages to the best guys on paper. I definitely get your point though.

Because he did so well at Cadets
He took 4th, Only losing to the Cortez brothers. Also beat Lilledahl this freestyle season who is waiting in the U20 finals. He is far from a favorite but to say he doesn’t have a shot is crazy. Lilledahl took 3rd at journeyman behind Knox and Meza then won the US Open at U20. It all depends on who has a good weekend.

Because he did so well at Cadets?
I think he doesn’t matchup well with the physical college guys like Volk but Bo is absolutely in the mix. Like others just said, he beat Lilledahl fairly recently who is waiting in the finals. I don’t expect him to make the finals but I think he’s going to beat a few really good guys and show everyone he’s continuing to develop and improve.

I also don’t really understand why you are throwing shade at him for entering this tournament after taking a couple L’s at U17. We should be praising him for continuing to toe the line and seek out tough competition every chance he gets. I wish more kids were like him in this regard. He never protects his ranking by not wrestling top kids or not showing up at big events. Kids get better by seeking out the best competition and wrestling guys that are better than them and Bo is always doing this. Props to him

I would say cause he beaten the guy sitting in the finals. I think he would have to wrestle really good to make it through but love his competitive mindset. I agree with everyone above, this is a Strange comment. The kid wrestles everywhere and never seems to back down from challenges. I think the last three years he was first, second and fourth at world team trials. That is really good where I come from. I highly doubt you have done better or most likely you wouldn’t be on message boards talking about young kids going after it. His dad definitely promotes his businesses, clubs and wrestlers a lot on social media. But seems to attract good families into pa. My boss always says if you don’t promote us, who will. With NIL his approach might be right. People in our area don’t like Coach Harer but I don’t think guys like Harer and Bassett care if people don’t like them. The Hughes brothers were the same way.

I didn’t see it but Willie said he beat Meza last week too. These are quality wins and kudos to him for wanting to toe the line. With that attitude he is big ten material imo.

I believe Bo and Jax are the only two U17 wrestlers who entered so far. Again kudos to those two for toeing the line. You are as good as your last match or competition

Call me crazy but I think Jax wins the mini tournament and beats Luke

I think everyone knows how much I love Jax at this point. I have him as my top recruit in high school. That said, I don’t see him winning the WTT bracket to make the finals against Lilledahl. He is definitely giving up strength especially against the college guys. His length and scrambling ability has usually offset his lack of strength though. I don’t see him listed in FLO’s entry list though so are you sure he is entered and at 57kg? I could see him at 61kg as well since he seems to be growing like most teenage boys. At either weight I see guys like Volk, Spratley, and Bouzakis who have a year in a college room presenting a lot of problems for him. I would pick those 3 guys over him this weekend but wouldn’t be surprised and would actually be quite happy if he beat them all and made the finals. A best of 3 against Lilledahl would be fire. Would love to see Jax vs Bassett as well.

He’s on Willie’s projected seed list. I think he’s much more dangerous at 57 then he was at 60 for cadets

I agree that he’s more dangerous at 57kg and also feel like the worst matchup for him at 57kg or 61kg is Bouzakis for sure. I just wonder if he’s growing out of 57kg. He is so tall and lanky and only 16 so I’m assuming he’s still growing.

Bo might be criticized for his (dad's) social media activities, but you can't say he's ever afraid to toe the line....
Therein lies the problem. You want to constantly brag and tell everyone how early you wake up, advertise that you are running clinics at 16yrs old, and all the countless 'look at me' social media posts, then you got to expect some backlash when you don't do that great. Its not just Cadets, it was this years Cadets, last years Cadets, and Fargo where he looked decent, at best. Does the kid toe the line, absolutely. Is he as dominate as his social media presence indicates, no. Several kids with less SM presence will end up being better recruits (Rath, Forrest, Gaj, etc).

Yes, he does put it on the line alot, but when you are constantly in everyones face on SM, you better. And spare the 'throwing shade' comment. I've seen other kids get crap on here before, and it will happen again. Bo is not above that criticism. You don't think it is just a little weird and obnioxious that he is doing 'Technique Tuesday' on YouTube, and placing 4th in age-appropriate tournaments?

Win or lose, Bo is doing something productive and market himself for the future. Also, at least his last name is not a Ferrari. So leave him alone, bud.

LOL at Ferrari. But what exactly is he marketing himself for? No one knows how successful he will be in college, and beyond. Too many parents are marketing kids, before letting them grow at their own pace. NIL is horrible look on HS wrestling IMO, creating self-promotion from parents and kids.

Your take seems harsh to me--someone who places 4th in the NATION could teach 99.9% of kids his age or younger something. The social media stuff is done (I suspect) to do what dad can to improve his son's stock and reach, because he wants the best for his very, very good athlete of a kid. Not how I'd likely do it, but my sons' talents are in other things, so I can only relate so much, and frankly, we don't have to agree. Same goes w/ you and me, I suppose. ;)

I find something about this weird and obnoxious, and it's not Bo Bassett.

This is just silly. I think it’s funny how a 15 yr old kid lives rent free in your head. Looking back through at your posts it clear your account is used to be negative. I remember jealous people in my area when Zain was going through this suspension. It all came from jealousy and made those people look so bad. After your blood pressure goes down and you can see straight, reread your comments and see how, weird, jealous & obnoxious they look.

I am really jealous of Tom Brady and started to dislike him over the years. He won all the time and always beat my Steelers. So I definitely don’t stalk his social media. Block his stuff before you have a heart attack.
In closing best of luck to Bo and Jax. I wish I could go watch them and the PSU guys this weekend. No way of getting two weekends off! Peace out

Why did Evans only get two for the near pin headlock? No TD?

Wins 6-4 over Wade of Cornell. Darn near had a fall in 1st. Only got 2 pts for it though. Would have been 6 pts in folkstyle.

In freestyle, you get 2, 4, or 5 for exposure, or 2 for TD, but never both.

No Luca Augustine or Rocco Welsh at 79kg. Barr with a decent path to the finals

Braeden Davis vs Jore Volk next round

Volk scores with 2 sec left to beat Davis 13-11!! Davis was ahead on criteria and gave up a td at the very end. Great match by both guys. Davis was living on Volks legs

Jax Beats McCrone 17-13 and will see Volk next

Bassett goes down 6-0 and comes back to score 16 unanswered in about a minute to win 16-6. Will wrestle Spratley next who pinned Nasdeo. Spratley looks very good

Davis looked good against Volk. Really should’ve finished it off but easier said than done. Jax didn’t exactly look dominant against McCrone

Yikes, down goes Sealey to Henckel of Blair. A reminder that for as good as he is and as much as his pace is an asset, he has a lot of things to be fine tuned.
