2024-25 PSU Lineup (The Dynasty Continues)

This is where I stand as well. If Facundo can make 157, then have at it and may the best man win. I get that Kasak looks like the easiest path to a starting spot between him, MM, Levi. or Starocci (where the other three are favorites to at least make the finals if not win it all), but I share your opinion that the cut would give a full feed Kasak the advantage in a wrestleoff, but we'll see, I guess. Getting the most out of guys by not subjecting them to strength-sapping cuts is one of the key parts of Cael's revolution of the sport.

It's also worth mentioning that Facundo is better at freestyle than folkstyle. It will be a challenge for him to defeat Kasak, who placed 3rd at NCAA's last year.

I think it's great he is trying, but he will have his work cut out for him.

Yeah, he's in a really tough spot where doing a steep cut to face a returning 3rd place finisher on full feed is your best shot at a lineup spot, but it is what it is at PSU. Unfortunately, I think that this is his last year at PSU before he portals out to greener pastures where he will have a chance to AA and possibly challenge MM for the title at nationals next year. We'll see, though. Facundo is also a top tier elite wrestler, so you never know how this will shake out. I wouldn't bet against him in anything resembling normal competition, which the PSU room clearly is not.

If he does portal you have to imagine Michigan would be the front runner

Facundo is so hard to get a read on, his best weight appears to be 165/74kg and I am curious what he ends up doing. I agree that he probably spends this year getting spot starts but is on the bench for the postseason. I would guess he stays with NLWC through the US Open freestyle cycle but then transfers out. Michigan makes a lot of sense IMO as a destination, he is from there and they will have a hole at 174. Him and BeauMan can cover 165/174.

How much if any was his cut when he was 165
It was said that he was taking a red shirt to bulk up. does anyone know if he had trouble adding the weight? Maybe he just could not put on muscle that was needed to move up. What did he weight in at the Olympic trials?

Yeah, I think Alex's performance at Nationals was a perfect negative storm, not so different from Braeden Davis last year. Most give Braeden a pass because he was a true freshman. In both cases, they underachieved and in both cases had the bracket been a little different or had they wrestled a little more aggressively, I think an AA would have been assured.

What seems abundantly clear is Alex's natural wrestling weight is probably 165, and a bump up would be a nice thick 174. The only problem being MM and Levi are simply better hammers that he can't beat. Who can?

That leaves this brutal drop to 157 as his last viable option to break into the starting lineup. I don't see this as a path to success, even if he were able to beat Kasak. All things considered equal, my money will almost always favor a weight gainer over a very steep cutter.

Olympic Trials (when he beat Levi) he would have weighed in at 74kg/163. He won Pan Ams at 79kg/174 (against weak competition)

Like I said, I expect Facundo and Nagao to go in the Fall. The option to redshirt Kasak and Davis exist.

I imagine Cael will want to make the final lineup decision by January before the Big Ten duals.

Kasak and Davis can wrestle opens to get their matches while unattached (the 5 free dates is just for true freshman)

I think Nagao may also be sitting to start the year if he is as injured as people have said. Give him the option to recover and potentially get a medical year. Maybe Garcia gets the 133 action to start the year

Sorry but the lesson was learned with Robbie Howard. If Aaron is still injured for two consecutive years then the odds are not good for him to wrestle again. With that said, everything I have heard has indicated that he is healthy and ready to wrestle this season. Cael will hold wrestle offs, and gather information, and decisions will be made regarding 133 and 157, and any other weight if needed. I'm not counting out Facundo at 157. May the best man win at 157 and at 133.

If Davis and Kasak are kicking their asses in practice, they aren't going to sit in the fall.

Pls clarify: I supposed that Olympic shirts are used only during an Olympic year, or is this supposed to be sarcastic? TIA
Yeah, it's a dig at a frequent/intermittent poster (who uses a new screen name every year it seems), who tends to dig in to his local manure pile whenever his dander is up (which happens often, especially with El Jefe involved), and insisted Nagao had a Oly RS to use next year. But they are only available in Olympic years.

If he wrestles 157 his stamina will resemble that of Rasheed the year Rasheed tried wrestling 165. He weighs 180 and has no fat.
I get Track has him at 165, but short of cutting off limbs it isn't happening.

Kasak is going to be 157 pounder.
Prediction: 157 will be Duke's weight.

Also, if I was Kasak, I would keep my eyes on 149 or 141 (longshot) and hoping Blaze doesn't come.
Kasak finished 3rd as a true freshman wrestling a weight above his initial weight class. He has packed on some lean weight and it would not surprise me if he wins a title this year and looks a little beastly doing so. My guess is Kasak has given zero thought to 149 or 141 as his future options.

Just saying.

Would love to see Kasak vs. Meyer Shapiro this year. But after this year, it will be Duke's for anther 4x champion at the weight. Duke will not just be the starter at 157 at Penn State, but he will rule it.

The only time Kasak and Duke would collide if Kasak goes this year is 2027 (Duke RS 26) and Kasak can RS that year. This is assuming Duke doesn't grow again and go 165. Kasak could also go 149 that year if he loses the wrestleoff (Duke obviously will be way past that) .... we also have the option of getting SVN back that year as well for 149.

Then the following year it's another Olympic year lol.

I'm guessing Duke will redshirt next year, then there will be a conflict, but that would be Kasak's senior season, and it's tough to predict that far out.

No, it would be Kask's JUNIOR year and he would still have a red shirt available.

I was mocking a mock-worthy post by our angriest flamethrower.

Post in thread '2024 NCAA's - Match/discussion threads (merged)' https://pennstate.forums.rivals.com...discussion-threads-merged.349230/post-6670022

And yes, Olympic shirts can only be used in Olympic years. Guns was so set on crapping on Nagao that he forgot it.
I was kind of lost following this until I realized I have that poster on Ignore, so I never saw the original post. In general I avoid using the Ignore feature, but sometimes it just seems the prudent thing to do : )

This year is Duke's sr year in HS and Kasak's soph year. Next year is Duke's RS year and Kasak's Junior year. The following year, the first year Duke would be in the varsity lineup, would be Kasak's senior year. Yes, he would have a RS year to take if he wants, but I would doubt it at that point, but who knows.

I am pretty sure all things will work themselves out just fine. In doing so both Kasek and Duke will have numerous opportunities to succeed.

My money is on PJ starting his post redshirt freshman year, no matter the weight, or who he has to wrestle off.
