I'm sooo with you. Used to hate that feature--thought it provided me an unclean user experience, in which I was unable to read the detritus that respected others were responding to.I was kind of lost following this until I realized I have that poster on Ignore, so I never saw the original post. In general I avoid using the Ignore feature, but sometimes it just seems the prudent thing to do : )
Say, have any of my friends viewed this vid, such that they'd be willing to share their takes on the vid takery?
There's nothing in that vid that hasn't already been raised on this board. Maybe this board is his source? Lol. There are big expectations for Lightning Luke. Davis is moving to 133 & will challenge Nagao. He's picking Davis over Nagao. Facundo to 157 is the biggest surprise weight change. 149 & 157 are between Van Ness, Kasak & Facundo, but he doesn't know how that will shake out. Levi's going up two weight classes to 174 pounds, but he wonders about his walking around weight. He thinks Connor Mirasola is the only recruit who could potentially challenge for a starting spot, and that 197 will be a battle between Barr, Cochran & Connor. No unsolved mysteries revealed in that episode. He failed to mention "fists to the back," "pushing down," or "Going for the Gusto." Let's not forget about all the fun that's going to come from listening to student announcers with limited wrestling knowledge trying to cover a match!Say, have any of my friends viewed this vid, such that they'd be willing to share their takes on the vid takery?
I often find meta-takery from respected commenters far superior in the Entertainment Dept, to the content produced by content producers.

Fine usage of detritus there : )I'm sooo with you. Used to hate that feature--thought it provided me an unclean user experience, in which I was unable to read the detritus that respected others were responding to.
But I've changed my mind. Now when I see "you are ignoring posts from this user", it feels really good. Like my self telling myself: "self! Trust thyself--ain't nothing there you need to read."
Yep. Mitchell was one inexplicable brain fart away from winning last year. He'll be very alert and hungry this season.
I believe they have them but they are top secret and don't mean as much as results in tournamentsWhen will they have their wrestle offs or do they even do that anymore?
This one is aging well. I will still wait until next year to tell you, I told you so.Sorry bud, but I won't be proven wrong until next year. Bookmark this and then bash me over the head with it in November 2025.
PS - we just had a poster today pontificate the merits of Barr going up to heavy down the road. Do I think that happens? Highly highly unlikely. Nonetheless, that poster must really ruffle your feathers.
Do I think Barr might rethink 184 after a full year at 197, for a variety of reasons, you bet.
Do I think Marisola has been anointed 197 next year? Pretty much, yes.
However, if Barr grows a little more, might he challenge for the spot? Quite possible.
I gained 45 lbs and 1" in first two years in college, anyone who thinks all kids are done growing at 18-20 isn't factual. My main point isn't entirely the 16 lbs needed to get back down to 184, but moreso he might change physiologically forcing himself to go up to 197 for a full year. What might have been a hard cut, might then become a cut that leaves him listless and far less competitive.
Would I pick Barr over Marisola for 197 in 2025, both on full feed? A very good question.
Honestly the talent is so good I would not be shocked by either outcome. However far fetched it sounds today, if Barr goes 197 this year, there is at least chance he stays there, Marisola or no.
So on balance, all of this speculation is irrelevant, excepting for Barr at 184 and Carter at 197 made more sense on paper to some extent. I think the real deciding factor was Carter obviously couldn't get big enough fast enough for 197. If today he is walking around at 190ish he would have been giving up 10-15 lbs in body mass to his top competition. That said - I think he would have won @197 anyway.
Don't move the goalposts. This one is aging well. I will still wait until next year to tell you, I told you so.
Aren’t you also the one who isn’t sold on Mirasola at heavy? Seemed to do pretty damn good todayThis one is aging well. I will still wait until next year to tell you, I told you so.
You are correct sir. He exceed expectations by a mile. No doubt. I would like to know what he weighs. Assuming he is still grossly undersized, I thought he would have trouble. I hope another year on full feed gets him to the mid 230s.Aren’t you also the one who isn’t sold on Mirasola at heavy? Seemed to do pretty damn good today
Could Luke Lilledahl, as a true freshman, win a National Championship this year?
And as great as all of those guys were none came in as highly ranked as LL or with his accoladesLet's look at the starters and see how they did as freshmen under Cael: Davis - B1G champ, DNP; Beau - DNP; Shane - 3d; Kasak - 3d; MM - 2d; Levi - 2d; Carter - 1st; Kerk - 7th. Cael's record with frosh has been pretty solid, to say the least. I think LL and Barr have a pretty good chance to be on, or at the top of, the podium.
Wasn't Mark Hall the #1 ranked HS wrestler and he won an NCAA title as a true frosh, the best finish by any true frosh at PSU.And as great as all of those guys were none came in as highly ranked as LL or with his accolades
Yes. If we go back to 2011, you have, in addition, Taylor, Ruth, Nico, Bo, Jason, Mark Hall, Brooks and probably more that are escaping me at the moment, to create quite an enviable track record with freshmen.Matter limited his review to current starters, but as Nova pointed out Mark did well as a freshman. Despite all the beatings Nico took in the room, as a freshman he still managed to wrestle his way into the finals. Zain placed 5th. If Suriano doesn't suffer a freak injury, he was a legitimate threat to win as a freshman.
There is plenty of recent and long term history that indicates Luke will most likely be ready to challenge for a championship as a true frosh.
That is great news. We will probably need him after half the lineup, the trainer, s&c coach, and equipment manager head to Rutgers next year.A roster note:
I just noticed that Van Ness' bio on the official roster has been updated to state that he has already been granted his injury hardship waiver for last year and received a medical RS. I guess this is how they are handling it now - the NCAA can grant it immediately, and not at the end of eligibility?
I highly doubt they would post this on the official PSU roster without receiving a thumbs-up from the NCAA. And the fact that Shayne has already gone to the effort to get it leads me to believe he is planning to use all of his eligibility. Has this been discussed before?

Don't forget the 3 C's coaching staff. 🤣That is great news. We will probably need him after half the lineup, the trainer, s&c coach, and equipment manager head to Rutgers next year.
If not then, we'll definitely need him when the other half of the linsup transfers to Rutgers. That is great news. We will probably need him after half the lineup, the trainer, s&c coach, and equipment manager head to Rutgers next year.
I raised this question after the Black Knight event (maybe in that thread, don't recall), when Byers on a couple occasions referred to SVN as a "fourth year sophomore". Seemed to indicate that SVN had already received NCAA approval for a medical redshirt in 2023-24, but there wasn't much discussion.A roster note:

Here's Jeff Byers talking about the line-up & recruits.
IIRC, Welsh was a higher recruit than barr. Welsh won the last match they met in hs and haven't wrestled since.the coaches develop that talent even more (contrary to what many of our detractors and opponents say).
“The tactics are really the same. It’s just wrestle hard every time. To make 184, that would not be the funnest cut anymore, but to make 197 is not too bad.”Want to get bigger? Buy a cow, Penn State wrestler Josh Barr says
